Affordable Sultan Fish

'...a 35-year-old diner, Mr Liu, and four friends who feasted on a steamed fish dish called the white sultan fish at the high-end Feng Shui Inn restaurant on June 12 at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS). ' This is quoted from Yahoo News. Wow, Singaporeans are truly one of the richest people in the world. A 1.8kg fish, called Sultan Fish and reputed to have silky white meat that tasted like fruits cost S$1,224! The fish is noted to be vegetarian as it eats fruits fallen from trees. That is why it is so exquisite in taste and price. Each mouthful will cost $100! Must be more expensive than the best caviar.

Will there be more 'more lambs to the slaughter' after this?

I am sure there will be. This is really an ego booster. I am sure Mr. Liu was highly satisfied with his exquisite meal and the publicity.

I heard his jaw dropped. Restaurants must not take it for granted that everyone is a multi millionaire and could afford such affordable price.

And the Singaporean millionaires are paper millionaires, asset rich, CPF rich, but not much disposable income. They may keep on smiling when they look at their CPF statements and brag about their half a million or one million dollar HDB flats. Paying for a $1000 plate of fish can still be shocking.

In such upscale restaurants they do not disclose prices on the menu, so said the restaurant people. They have a point.

To dine in such a place and asking the price of every dish is also 'malu' in front of guests. So, what to do?

So,if they want to dine in such a place, they must be one of those 'money no problem' kind of personality, who should be prepared to pay for any shocking experience that comes with the meal.

If you want to play with sharp knives, prepare to be slaughtered.

What is this compare to the one willing to fork out 3.8 million or so just to have a lunch with Wa-- Buffet?

Actually Liu should be glad that the waiter saw him up and thought he could afford to throw $1000 away. But then it was a poor judgement.

I am always very careful with any shop or restaurant that don't show you the price. Just stay clear and don't get near.

This Liu fella has only himself to blame.

Want to make an impression on your Hong Kong guests? Then you gotta pay through your nose and after devouring the goddamn fish have the stomache to grin and pay for the delicacy. Just ask his guests about fish prices in Hong Kong at the finest chinese restaurant. His jaw will drop!

Me? I can only boast of eating fish at the zhi char stall where the most pricy fish is the red garoupa costing maybe $45 enough for a party of four. Also, unlike the RWS, you can eat anyway you like with fingers instead of cutlery. Yum Yum.

What you get is what you pay.

So folks, a fish is a fish is a fish. Just like a woman, is a woman, is a woman.

Holy smoke, 3.8m for a meal with Wa.. Buffet!

I pray they do not use Wa.. Buffet as their benchmark.

Chua Chin Leng aka redbean said...

That is a lucky fool. To be able to throw away $3.8m he probably has several hundred millions. If he could make that kind of money he does not need help from Buffett to make more.

Only reason is to get notice which he could get more by spending the $3.8m

A 3.8 million meal or a $1.2K fish is the same and comes out as a pile of shit the next day.

Why are these people so like that? There are millions of people starving around the world who need a little help. Instead they want to help of all peopel, Wa.. Buffet and the restaurant.

What is this world turning into?

It was reported that one in China used a big note to light his cigarette.

Wonder, the Authority there put him behind bars for his stupid sickening act.

If you venture to any of the bigger Aust cities and pull out the Yellow Pages to the "Escort" section, you will find "models" who charge 10-20k per "event".

Let's say sex is involved at the (low) price of AUD10k and that you -- the client -- ejaculates into the fair maiden after 10 pelvic thrusts.

That works out to AUD1000 per thrust.

Enjoy the sultan fish -- it is cheaper and you get to enjoy the company of your friends.

Wow! I thought some fish are expensive. Chickens are even more so, it seems.

Better be a vegetarian.

Haha Matilah,

You're funny! A$10,000 for 10 pelvic thrust?

No man! When I'm paying 10 Aussie grand, the number of thrust increases proportionately. I can do 100 so it works out to be A$100 each. If I push the throttle a fair bit, can even manage 200 but that would be pushing the envelope. Quite cheap, I'll say to be enjoying a sultan fish that looks like Marilyn Monroe. My engine is a command and control prototype. Yours may be the older jet propelled manual override control model.

Hehe.

In places that tell the customers not to ask for prices are like telling the customers to be ready to be ripped off. Now RWS is getting quite a lot of publicity on this sultan fish episode.

But for the really rich, what is $1000 or $10m? They will still be in RWS, in fact more will be there, just to tell the losers they are there for the sultan fish.

That's why human nature never changes. It's always ego and greed.

In fact, it is turning into a game of poker of sorts. The idea is to see who can charge more and who can pay more.

Be prepared to be fed to the Fish like one blogger!

Just imagine, A fish can create so much talk. No wonder they call some stories 'fishy tales'.

I think a lot of wisdom can be found in the sayings of old, especially Chinese proverbs and idioms.
