A good piece of advice from ST

The ST Editorial commented on China’s Nobel prize anger as overdone. It said no need to be like that lah. For a great nation that is confident of itself, it should just simply ignored the little country called Norway and its award of the prize to Liu Xiaobo. I also agree. Why get so work up by a silly bunch of people in the Nobel Peace Prize Committee? The same piece of advice is relevant to the WikiLeaks fiasco. All the great nations that are confident of themselves should simply ignore all the leaks even if they embarrassed them. Treat them as some rubbish coming out from small people and ignore them. Then peace and calm shall return to the whole world. And the Americans will find that their effort in throwing a spanner into the world of diplomacy an effort in vain. Great and confident nations should be able to see through the evil scheme and remain calm, not to be provoked into making the situation any worst. Are there any great and confident nations out there that will take this advice seriously?

Whatever one says in confidence to anyone can one day be used to compromise one's position. This basic rule is as good as Murphy's Law.

Better not to say bad things about people behind their backs. Want to say, say it here. Open Secret. And the target person can come here and defend himself or spit at the person for his generosity in opinion: )

Here is the point missed by many editorials, and your goodself:

> All the great nations that are confident of themselves should simply ignore all the leaks even if they embarrassed them. <

The error is in not seeing that there is a seperation of players in the countries concerned. Wikileaks is an expose of their governments, notably the opinions reported by US diplomats from interviews and converstaions. Some of this content has "embarassed" the government's concerned in and in some cases exposed secrets. OTOH The People (citizens, voters) are -- for the most part-- "delighted" that their governing idiots have been slammed and lies exposed.

There is a lot of anger, frustration and mistrust in just about every country of the citizens toward their governments. This mainly due to the economic crisis and the sovereign debt crisis -- the peoples in many countries have really been hammered, governments are introducing austerity measures, and the people are pissed off.

Look at the riots by students in the UK over the 3-fold increase in tuition fees. Imagine you are a parent with 2 or 3 kids, now tuition costs jump 3 times. You've probably taken a pay cut or lost your job --- your family is fucked. People are mad, fucking mad.

The wikileaks content adds fuel to the fire, and the peoples' mistrust in their various governments grow -- which is the intent, and which is something I am personally delighted with.

Governments have tried to brush the wikileaks aside, but in the west -- supposed bastion of freedom and liberty -- it gets even worse: they want to charge Assange. The People, and thankfully heads of state like Putin and Brazilian President Lula support Assange's RIGHTS are standing behind the ideas of democracy, freedom of speech, and journalistic freedom.

Singapore's response -- the one by MFA boss George Yeo -- was one of the most sane, rational and calm responses out there. Compare S'pore's response to that of the US and Australia -- government officials in both countries calling for Assange's head.

Yes folks, western governments, voted in and citizens pay tax to, and thus expect them: to defend freedom of speech, expression and a free press. The shameless western governments are the ones who want to put a bullet in those freedoms.

For e.g. the way the Aust Federal Govt has responded -- especially the attorney general -- is just fucking disgusting, exactly like a tin pot dictatorship.

BUT a so-called "authoritarian" govt like Singapore -- the favourite target for western media to bash:

MFA:wikileaks?

Ah, cocktail gossip. So what...in a few weeks people move on. Our relationships are based on each countries national (self) interest.

How cool is that?

Quite true. People have short memories. After all it is all gossips after a cocktail party. The people uttering them must be high with alcohol in their heads.

I am sure Najib and Anwar will get over it soon. So will Takshin, the Japs and the Indians, and the Chinese. And our Enemy Number One, Mr Kim in the North.

No need to get excited over such things. Just go for the bugger who deliberately let the cat out of the bag. I don't mean Assange. He is just a conduit, being made used of to do the damage for the snake handler.

Oh, would Anwar take up libel suits against those who spoke about his sodomy?

Now, when diplomutts shake hands and pat each other on the backs, the hand behind their back points a middle finger.

Actually, they all along knew this. The leaks just confirmed their suspicions.

Assange opened our eyes to the shady world of "diplomacy".

We are doing cool damage control. Baying for retribution serves no useful purpose. There are already clones of Wikileaks.

I think both Najib and Anwar have sort-of shrugged off the matter.

"Apa yang harus dilakukan? Lupakan tentang itu. Relac lah brudder, mari kita pergi Bukit Bintang minum kopi dan jalan-jalan." non-bahasa speakers, translate here.

The Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), however are not letting go -- they are kicking Anwar's ass to sue Lee Kuan Yew (hahahhahah). UMNO youth (semua tukang hisap kotek - kelas atas ahli) has joined in, as well as other ministers.

It is like Kampong Melayu's been insulted and they're dancing the dandut of war. This Malay drama is a fucking comedy lah.

"
Singapura telah menghina kita. Puki mak anjing cina 'tu Lee Kuan Yew! Bawa dia ke mahkamah dan menuntut! Malaysia Boleh!"

Are you surprised? I'm not. I used to (and still occasionally) work in KL. I leave the assholes in Australia only to meet a new type of asshole in Malaysia :-)

OK, better stop now before they cancel my work permit. :-0

I have an excellent solution to this PITA. Go to Anwar and Najib and tell them it is ok to sue. Then go to the Americans and tell them to pay for all costs and damages.

It is all because of the Americans. Let them pay each of them $20m in American dollars.

Nice to know he knows who the real culprits are:

Angry Anwar

Lawan! Lawan! (fight fight)

Yeah, everyone should remain calm and shrug it off.

If that can be that easy, the world would be at peace, no wars and Marcos, Suharto, Saddam and Chemical Ali would all still be around ruling their roost.

The reality is far from the ideal. Otherwise, why are the rest of the world on heat like a bitch whenever Kim Jong Il farts.
