$8 for a heart bypass!

Khaw Boon Wan said his bypass surgery which normally costs about $30k in an A class ward ended with him paying only $8. That is cheaper than buying two packs of panadol from a pharmacy. He claimed that he had Medishield and topped up by a supplement medical insurance. Knowing miserly is the payout from Medishield, with co payment, I am very interested to know the break down in his medical bill and how much each of his insurance paid for him. Let us have a peep on the details, Boon Wan. And also let us know how much premium you are paying for the Medishield and the supplement insurance. If it is meaningful and makes financial sense, I think many people will like to have the same insurance coverage. Thank you.

Incredible!

But I don't believe in "free lunches", and you are quite right to get skeptical on this fuckers claim.

Even in Oz, the top tier private medical insurance, with full age-loading, you pay close to AUD2k per year, you'll be paying more than 8 bux...for anything, let alone cardiac surgery.

Of course if you are a pensioner or jobless bum, you get it for free. (the more fucked-up you are, the more "love" you get).

Medishield: AFAIK, that is govt "insurance" which menas it has to be miserly or everyone will be claiming and the whole thing will go bankrupt from excessive haemorrhage.

All govt "help" is rationed -- public housing, public transport (see redbean's "orgy" post), public education, public "security" (the cops always arrive after the crime).

Contrast that with the private market for the above: you can get as much housing, transport, education, security etc as you need by paying for it yourself.

Not many people can afford the kind of insurance premiums he is paying for a $8 heart bypass.

Someone said on the net that he being a health minister would have no problem claiming for his insurance as opposed to some ordinary Joe. That someone may be right. After all, a minister and a health one at that will surely be beyond reproach in health matters.

Talking about which, we are given the impression that Mr. Khaw is a man with a healthy lifestyle and a good Buddhist who probably eats vegetarian meals most of the time. So how come still got some tubes stuck and choked ah? This proves the adage "Man propose, God dispose".

My lifestyle and probably Matilah's ain't what you would call sedate and pious.

But look at us!

Fucking fit!

Now, where is that double Chivas and that rare T-Bone steak?

Hehe.

Wally, I'll have to pass on that one. This time last year I was fucking fit, in every sense of the word -- I was training with a light-heavy weight boxer (ex champ) from 7-9am every weekday, with an added session at 5pm on Friday's just to "top of the week".

My intention was to have a hot bod like this guy, ed, and increase my FFFF or F4 (Fucking Frequency & Ferocity Factor) to rival any similarly fit 18 year old.

A few months ago we had a falling out over a woman -- I know, at our age how down right fucking inexcusably stupid -- and have since stopped training, put on 4kg and starting to panic.

IMO the best way to avoid heart issues etc as we age is to fuck more, but to fuck more you need to be fit more.

Aust is full of fat, lazy unfit and unhealthy wankers. However there are also inspiring fit old folks. I intend to side with the latter by age 60.

well, you can't say it in more plainer truth than this. Wally indeed is fighting fit. So is Patriot. Haven't got an impression of Matilah. From the hooded pic of him, shouldn't be too bad.

Wow! $8 to cure a heart problem in Sin.
Healthcare must be bloody cheap in Singapore.
Why the need to go JB, India and China for medicares?
Come to settle in Sin and be taken good care of.

This is an extremely excellent and bestest healthcare insurance scheme. Boon Wan should be generous enough to share this scheme to all Singaporeans, use it as a model so that anyone buying the same scheme will be entitled to the same benefits as Boon Wan.

Transparency is good in this case. Also to disclose what is the premium he has to pay after the by pass.

Wally has a point. Some people are health nuts, yet are afflicted with rich man's diseases. I think moderation is the best.

All those supposedly health food and supplements on the shelves of pharmacies and health food outlets may not be all that they claimed to do or promote. Of course they have experts to swear on their usefulness. But who paid them and I also know that money talks, and with money you can make a person say the most ridiculous things and tell the biggest lies.

And not all that strenuous exercise will do all the good either. If so, why are extremely fit and exercise buffs dropping dead all the time. Beats me!

Not bad, lull at the moment, will be tip top at summer's end, then all those "hiao" S'porean divorcees (cougars), MILFs and lau suis better look out. Uncle Matilah with his fat meat canon is back in town. I like em' over 30 :-)

See you gals at Holland V. I'll bring the "protection"

Very true.

My mother always insisted on A Class Wards in govt hospitals. She said it was free. She did not have to pay a cent. All paid by my medisave.

Wally Buffet said...

My mother only enjoy B2 wards in government restructured hospitals.

Psst...............Keep
this a secret ok?

She doesn't know that her sojourn in our "world class medical facilities" was paid for from the medisave of her four grandsons in equal proportions.

I always get a pat for being a filial guy.

Hehe.

Ministers got to pay for their medical expenses from their own pockets meh??????????

Are they still under the old scheme, pension, full medical benefits? Good question.

Rex comments follows,

I too was puzzled at the minister's recent foray with death and his good doctors efforts to re-set his innards at a cost of $8.

It took me a while to realise that the news, the media, temasek review, everybody, simply overlooked the simple fact that he actually paid about $5,000 in coinsurance and deductibles, whilst the rest was covered by insurance.

Therefore, it is completely wrong for anyone to think that he paid $8. In fact, he paid something like $5,008, becuase Medisave is just his own savings, a mechanism we are all familiar with. Why $8? Well, maybe his medisave was down to 5000 left. and the bill was $5008. so he paid $8 in cash!!

Big deal, this whole incident is not newsworthy at all. In fact i think that khaw is very stupid man to allow the media and the anti pap lobby to take advantage of the mis-information. Now he looks like a bloody fool and arrogant rich idiot boasting over $8 savings... he now goes onto the same boat like the rest of the rotten team he works for. (before this recent incident i think khaw was still considered slighlty better than many others in the team).
