No criminals in our casinos
The police have announced that 3,500 people with serious criminal records will be barred from the casinos under the Commissioner of Police Exclusion Order. This is different from the Self Exclusion Order that a gambler or his family could exercise to keep himself out of the casinos. This is another positive step in the right direction to keep our casinos crime and sleaze free.
I am sure all the religious organisations will also be helping the authority in their daily sermons to advise their believers to stay away from the casinos. With this two prong approach, the casinos can be sure to be free from criminals and angels. Only the secular and ungodly people will be left to visit these new playgrounds.
I am wondering whether those commercial cheats who squandered away money from commercial and charity organisations will also be barred? I think they should. People who committed breach of trust, commercial frauds, dishonesty, should also be excluded from the casinos. With such an exclusion order acting as an additional deterrent, the casinos could be doing a good thing for society, telling potential cheats to be good if they want to play in their games rooms. An incentive not to take the wayward path.

Right no criminals!
Basically it is a monopoly, keeping free enterprises from triving.
I once mentioned here a ""(can't remeber exactly) what Steve Wynn said about casino, something like only those who make money from gambling are the owners of the casinos.
As for banning problematic gamblers sound alot like America's no fly list, see how well that is working.
Who are the criminals?

Is Casino a place free from criminal or is it a place where criminals could be produced?
I agree. No criminals. Foreign criminals visiting are not classified as criminals. The law said so. Respect the law.
We may have the most sanitized casinos on Earth. Not very much fun leh!
Casino = Cash + Sin + O (people)
It comes as a package. At the end of the day, all other industries that supports and relies on it will be formed. And we as a nation will depend on them (starting from projected 1% GDP contribution, and by design, to grow exponentially further up).
To start with, it is the objective of current administrator to ensure BOTH casinos are successful. And this is exactly the conflict of interest with national interest. Because when both casinos are successful, it means our future is compromised.
My opinion is that at about 10 years down the road, collectively we WILL REGRET about this casino decision (mark the date 6 Feb 2010). At that time, we WILL HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO ACCEPT the consequences of this decision. Most positive consequences will be at the early stage and in short term only. BUT REAL NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES will last forever !!!
From this view, the very person who sign on the dot to allow our future to be compromised is a true criminal by definition.
And to allow and support this from happening, current administration HAS TO ANSWER to Singapore History for taking an easy way out without solving the real economic structural issues.
I want to qualify, there is no Singaporean criminals in the casino. I am not sure how are they going to vet the foreign criminals to bar them from entry. Some prominent ones with interpol records might be easy. Many will have no records.
Hi ObserverOne, welcome to the blog. Thanks for the observation.
And nice to see Jaunty and Wally here. It feels so good, really, so at home.
I agree with observerOne that they are taking the easy way out. It did struck me as to why they were keen in bringing in the casino and F1, after giving all the wonderful reasons years ago and even threatening those who want a casino with 'walking over dead bodies'.
No, they will not admit liability years down the road when 'real negative consequences' surfaced. They always are good in concocting reasons to argue away their faults and misadventures. We have witnessed that in the population policies over the years, the immigration policies now, the changes to the election laws that are ongoing etc.
Singaporeans have to wake up during the coming election.
Anonymous,
It is our COLLECTIVE RESPONSIBILITY to make sure that our future is on the right path, NOT compromised by any one, any group or any party.
When a leader starts to go astray (which happen repeatedly in history), it is the responsibility of the citizen to ensure that feedback is properly voiced out.
When feedback is already voiced out, but happily ignored by relevant authority, to the extend quietly silenced, then it is a perfect formula for a disaster to be formed.
The RWS have just produced a new criminal. See news report at:
http://sg.news.yahoo.com/cna/20100217/tap-033-indonesian-lost-casino-resorts-w-231650b.html
But I see it as false for me to name the casino as the producer of this new criminal, I should re-phrase it: the casino has the ability to make a potential criminal braver. It is wrong to say that the casino produces criminal, I am sorry.
