HDB, what are you doing?

I totally disagree with the new HDB policies on housing as formulated by Mah Bow Tan. HDB as a public housing scheme, is to provide a roof to all citizens of the country. If it wants to provide housing to PRs, that is a separate issue but should not compromise the needs of the citizens. And the policy of not providing for everyone who needs a flat is not what a govt should do to its citizens. With the clever scheme of BTO, there is this additional need to plan and apply 3 years ahead for a flat which I feel is unfriendly to the citizens who need a flat urgently for one reason or another. Not everyone has the luxury of planning 3 years ahead. A little over supply is not a waste when the interests of the citizens is concerned. HDB is not any commercial property developer. It should aim to provide a roof for all citizens when they need it at as low a price as possible without making a loss. Public housing is for that roof over the head, not for speculation. Govt policies should not encourage people to speculate on the sole property they own. Speculation can lead to big profits and also big losses. Let the rich speculate all they want in the private property market. Don't mix the sheep with the wolves.

marlboro tan does not care a hoot about whether all singaporeans can have a roof over their head.

he only cares about how much money his ministry can squeeze out of people living in singapore for the govt. singaporeans or not.

infact he's the most profitable minister (erp, coe, hdb and more) and therefore the most important to our dear pap govt.

he is too busy picking up the next glasses to look cool. Man at puberty must also look cool. I think you should send him a long-sighted glass becos like you said he keep buying those short-sighted glasses. Perhaps you should call Philipino Starck to get him another pair of glasses so he dont look like a danny and concentrate in getting the housing policy right.

Marboro Tan care about providing HDB flat but whether one can afford to live in one is another thing. All he care is the money in the bank.

it's a delicate balance of not over building to protect the interest of 90% homeowners which, i must say, mr mah is getting better at it.

hi johnny, welcome to the blog.

we are now stuck with the high prices of he HDB flats. if only we have not been so crazy to drive up the prices, many flat owners will have more cash in their cpf or to spend on other better things in life.

now huge sums of money are stuck in the flats, cpf savings gone. some will benefit when they sold of the flats that they bought at lower prices. but somebody got to lose and pay for their gains. it is a zero sum game. every gainer there is a loser.

i still think it is a bad policy to make people pay a life time of their income just for a roof when the prices are inflated and not necessary.

In short, the Ministers and MPs do not care so much for the poor and homeless and single and unmarried. Maybe, they care more for how much go into their pockets at the end of each month or year. Some of their policies are just brainless, dull and repulsive. Like lumping two complete strangers as requirement to apply for tiny 1-room rental flat. Others are discrimminatory like those against students with less than stellar academic results or super politically correct to the rich foreigners or giving scholarships to those already born with a silver spoon in their mouths. I was shouting out about the injustices in our society in public and nine police officers turned up to pressure me to keep quiet. Simply repulsive!

hdb and its policies are all part of this plan to keep singapore's economy going up and up. the moment you commit to the slavery, chances are that you'll spend your entire life paying for it. it's like getting on board the flying dutchman, or hamsters running on wheels, except that for us poor hamster, these wheels function as motor generators so we keep running, running, running. . . .

i'm 20 and don't have plans to get married anytime soon. i'm independent and dream of living on my own. besides, my relationship with my family isn't exactly the best you'll find. guess i'll have to suck that up for QUITE a while.

Hi redbean -- please contact Richard Yong. He has those blue yellow red plastic-sticky danny ones.

The side frames gets bigger at the side when one goes into puberty & get hot flushes.

Redbeans - if you wear like a danny, (a yellow tie and a yellow handerchief danggling from your skirt pocket) HDB will charge more becos danny look like a millionaires. Stop driving prices up.

hi johnny, you will have to pay for the HDB flats at whatever price the market decides. how nice. the market decides which means everyone else decides how much you should pay. hope you get on well with your daddy and he can afford to buy you one.

there are many rich daddies buying plenty of properties for their children and grandchildren to live a life of plenty.

and yes blue ocean, it takes one with a lot of money to dress up like a dandy. i no money to try to look pretty.
