Foreign talents feel slighted

Foreign talents should not feel slighted by the recent debate. Singaporeans are not xenophobic. Real foreign talents are welcomed and if they are, they should know this. It is the non talents, the pretenders and the conmen that are not wanted. And the foreign workers are also welcomed up to a point, up to a level when they start to squeeze the locals for space and facilities. That point has reached in Serangoon Garden. I have read in the media that PRs called this place their home as well. Well in a way. They are permanent residents. But this is only their temporary or secondary home. It is never the same compare to a citizen. The citizens are here for good while the PRs are here when the weather is fair.

actually you are right. i am trying to be polite. no where in the world are fts treated so well that they even told the citizens of their host country off. they even openly bragged about how good they are. and the govt openly praised them and nudged to the people to embrace them with open arms.

that is why i suggested that we should manage our foreigners and foreign talents like the saudis. then the foreigners will know their place in the country. and everyone will be happy.

in saudi arabia, if a car driven by the locals banged into a foreigner, the foreigner is at fault. for he is not supposed to be in saudi arabia. and the accident happened because he was there. : )

"no where in the world are fts treated so well that they even told the citizens of their host country off."

Singapore is a meritocratic place, if the foreigners are more capable than the locals, what's wrong with replacing them? These are the thoughts of a foreigner demanding equal rights of employment here.

"Singapore is a meritocratic place."

Don't make me laugh. Foreigners are here not because foreigners are more capable than the locals but because of COST. Businesses hire foreigners because foreigners are cheaper and have no NS obligation. Would you hire someone who is costlier and have to take an additional 7-40 days of compulsory annual leave mandated by the state? I wouldn't, would you?

FT policy is all the time about helping employers to hire cheaper foreigners and enabling the government to collect levies. It was never about job creation for locals. That's all bull!

I dun know about that. I do know that size matters.

1 million foreigners and they are already demanding citizen's privileges, 2 millions and they'll say it's their god damn right.

the govt may still want to think that the ft policies are well loved by the people. but reading from all the blogs and even in the media, the anger can be felt. and this is only the tip of the iceberg.

whoever wants to believe that this ft thing can be easily swept under the carpet or by someone saying we must love the fts, so be it.

Observations - foreign workers crossed the road while red man is on. "Bo chap attitute". Singaporean abide to traffic rules, they break the rules Kana FINE what about these FW bochap attitudes? ..soon the whole of SIN will be upside down. (you observe carefuly and verify what i said as correct).

Witnessed an incident @ Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal where a FW sweared @ an AETOS officer in uniform in front of 2 state police officers. The funny thing was the AETOS officer in uniform wanted to beat up that FW guy by raising his hands and was resisted by the 2 state police. You just dont believe as the scene unfolds.. What is becoming of SIN.. 1) When the FW swear at an uniformed officer in uniform. FW must be made to understand on the spot how LAW operates here.
2) AETOS officer in uniform raising hand wanting to beat up a FW in full view of public?? Strange indeed.
3) State police officer who bear witness to incident did nothing... that incident made me think all is not well while we exercise full tolerence /control, FW may be taking politeness a little too far... Soon there will be an incidence where FW will simply strike.

we need not borrow everything from any country. but what the saudis did or how they treat their foreigners is something that we can learn from. be kind and good to the foreigners. but make sure they know their place in our country. they are here at our grace.

this is our country. we should not allow foreigners to come here and kick our asses. the ferry terminal incident as quoted above is an example of foreigners kicking our asses. if we don't put a stop to such attitudes, we will be kicked out of our homes.

let's not be crazy and blindly embrace every foreigners with open arms. you may be hugging a devil for all you know. hug those who deserve the hug and kick those who deserve to be kicked.

Well said redbean! I absolutely agree with you.

I say the PAP govt is bending backwards for foreigners at the expense of locals. Vote out the PAP and effect a fundamental policy change.
