a nation of specialists and foreign talents

Soon Singapore will become a nation with the most specialists after the restructuring and retraining excercises bear their fruits. All our mature citizens will be specialists in their own right. Toilet specialists, crockery distillation specialists, environment specialists, roadside specialists, voiddeck specialists etc etc. And soon we will have more professional bodies registering with the Registry of Societies to accommodate all these maturing specialists. We have, as a nation, upgrade ourselves in the skills of our workforce. We can then boast of having foreign talents and local specialists. Foreign investors will be spoilt for choices with the talents and specialists we are offering to them. And rightly, all these talents and specialists will see a higher income to commensurate with their specialist and professional skills. We no longer have to compete with China and India in trying to pay lower. Our workers will now command a higher pay.

Long live PAP. Your leaders are very wise indeed. They know they caanot count on a bunch of whining local softies like yourself to move the economy ahead. You guys have lost that killer instinct, the drive to succeed, the hunger to adapt to changing environment. That's why we FTs are needed to whip you guys out of your slumber and provide some much needed competition to your otherwise sterile economy. Too bad there's nothing you can do about it.

as soon as we decide we have enough of pap, we will send you guys home....all in due time.

oh no, we shall not turn this forum into an anti ft forum. we are discussing the merits and demerits of the ft policy. the fts are just a factor and not a cause to the policy. the policy is not decided by the fts and they are innocent party to this issue.

i am addressing this particularly to this ft here. i know you are pretty young in your head and could not understand what we are discussing. it is ok, we understand. if you keep quiet, follow the discussion for a while, you may learn something. i promise you it will be a very informative and educational experience for you. this i can assure you.

come to think of it, this guy who called himself ft maybe another singaporean who is here to incite a rift between singaporeans and fts.

we must always be guarded against such destructive elements in our society.

the FT scheme is like the english premier league. It makes the premier league exciting but at the same time, deprive english players of the experience of playing in their own league and at european champion league levels. that is why english players are underdeveloped and lack experience playing at the highest level. it is not surprising that england will NEVER be winning the world cup again with such a scheme in place.

you guys don't have to send me home. I will do that on my accord when I've milked your country for what it's worth. I'm sitting on a tidy pile of cold hard cash in my CPF, not to mention the killing I made in the property market in the mid 90s. Thank God I had the foresight to cash out at the peak just before everything came tumbling down like a pack of cards. When the time is ripe, I will be surrendering my PR and taking my 5 figure CPF sum back to my country. I'll be looking out of my beach front property everyday with magificent sea views while you guys are stuck with negative equity homes. Ahhh, life is indeed good for an FT in Singapore :)

in a way i can agree to that analogy. but the cream of this country are way way above most of the fts. the really brilliant fts are in the science park. and a few are actually in key positions in the industries. but these are exceptionally brilliant people and very small in numbers, maybe a few hundreds here.

and compare this with the 200-300k fts, excluding the maids and construction workers, it is really very small.

the english premier league is not really a good example. the singapore league is more appropriate. look at the foreign imports. if they are really good enough they will be in the english premier league or the european league.

the fact that they are only good enough for the singapore league speaks for themselves. and the fact that the attendance in their matches is so miserable, also tells a story about the quality.

sorry fts, no intention to belittle you guys. facts are facts.

there you are. you are a local trying to start a fire between the locals and fts.

but i must admit that a 5 figure sum to a ft is a big deal. i am still worried that my 6 figure saving may not be enough for my retirement even with my property fully paid up.

i really want to spend a few years travelling across europe and america. but looks like i should be content to travel across cheaper places in asia and africa.

ahh, perhaps i will pay you a visit at your beach side palace.

ha ha, 5 figures only and you want to brag.....looks like a foreign trash to me...LOL.

call us whatever names you want. but the fact is foreigners get better treatment in singapore than locals. that's what you guys have been bitching about for so long. try to disporve that, loser Stinkaporeans.

Interesting discussion.

Pray tell in what ways are foreigners treated better than S'poreans. Do provide examples.

heheh, don't kena goreng by some nasty locals one day and regret ever stepping foot here. the locals may complain here and there. but this is local territory.

hi 5 figure ft, you are really so blessed. with 5 figures in your bank account you can go back and buy a beach bungalow.

poor singaporean, every average poor singaporean will have a 6 figure flat, a 6 figure cpf savings and a 5 or 6 figure bank account. and all these added together they still cannot afford a beach bungalow.

you are damn right that you should feel good. the poor singaporean can only feel good if he traded in his citizenship, sell his flat, collect his cpf and bank account and become a quitter.

ssshhhh, please tell where can a singaporean buy a beach bungalow with 5 figures. i love the idea. i will probably buy 5, live in one and rent out the other 4.

thanks for telling us how to live well.

what the f***, 5 figures cannot even buy a 3rm "subsidized" flat....our friend here talk very big...

the sense of wealth is relative. in a singaporean home, if there are 4 members, probably there will be 4 mobiles, one fixed line, 3 tvs, 3 or 4 laptops with a desktop, two cars etc

in some countries, one car, one tv, one mobile or one fixed line will be a luxury many would not have.

singaporeans are too pampered and terribly wasteful, spending half a million on a hdb flat, $100k to use a car for 10 years. now maybe cheaper a bit.

Hahaha....kiasu attitude at its best
