How to blame China now for the high cost of living in the USA? China wants to export cheap cars and products to the USA for USA citizens to enjoy, but the USA would not let them in freely using trade wars and tariffs to make them expensive.
The USA wants to blame China for not buying more from the USA to reduce its deficits with China, when USAs manufacturing base is already hollowed out and now producing nothing that the Chinese needs, which they can make themselves and much cheaper. Will the USA allow China to buy its F35s and other military equipment, the only products that it excels in producing, to reduce its trade deficits? Obviously not! Even now China already has its own fighter jets as capable as the F35s, drones that are superior to the USA, expensive ICE vehicles that China is phasing out and EVs that are so much cheaper than ICE vehicles and EVs made by USA manufacturers, even Tesla.
The USA should blame itself for being greedy, wants to enjoy cheap products by outsourcing production to cheaper destinations and intending to just enjoy the fruits of the labor of others, using its toilet papers in exchange. It backfired badly.

So long as USA citizens continue to believe that tariffs and sanctions will make China collapse, the more they will suffer the consequences. They should just look back at those sanctions on Cuba, North Korea, Iran, Venezuela, China and Russia. Did any of these countries collapsed? On the contrary, some have grown stronger, more resilient and more united and making their people more patriotic.
It is eye-opening that interviews by a certain Youtube vlogger of a few ordinary USA citizens on the street are still insisting that China is paying for the tariffs, despite an importer and others trying to educate them that it is USA consumers who are footing the bill. It is difficult to convince nitwit hillbillies whose minds have been conditioned to hate China and refuses to face reality. Too bad.
China is just making a necessary token retaliatory move on increased tariffs against USA on coal, LNG, crude oil, big cars and agricultural machinery, all of US$14 billion worth. USA tariffs on the other hand is reported to affect hundreds of billions of Chinese imports into the USA.
Now, it appears that China is basically letting Trump's increased tariffs bite the USA consumers in time and let Trump shoot them in the head, not in the foot. I was surprised at the light retaliation by China, but thinking over, it makes a lot of sense. China is not going to punish its own people with unlimited tariff retaliation on USA products, not that there are any to speak of, which are moreover already too expensive.
As many have said, China is more well prepared to de-couple from the USA today than in 2016 during Trump's trade war ignition. Business with BRICS has expanded and trade with the Global South has been flourishing. Who does not want cheap Chinese EVs and other consumer products?
Events in the USA are turning into what Carl Sagan feared - A country that celebrates ignorance and reward stupidity. Politicians are becoming more and more stupid and outrageous - all to garner support and win elections.
