We were touting on how good our political renewal system was, but the system morphed into a situation where we have to recruit talents from probably only three sources - the arm forces, the trade unions and Government ministries.
How did we land up in such a situation was all the fault of the system. Those top scholars that went to study overseas, sponsored by the Government and its agencies are mostly intended to be tied down to serve the Government eventually, leaving little avenue for them to develop their political aspirations elsewhere. How to develop talents when it is a system that leads to inbreeding of talents that do not think wide enough except serving the administration and thinking out ideas on how to squeeze the voters dry.
And the moment such talents choose to join any opposition, they are deemed to be against the Government, treated almost like bitter opponents and even lose their rice bowl as far as Government jobs are concerned. This is not the only concern befalling opposition candidates. Even opposition ward voters are treated as going against the Government and in the past denied all manner of support like upgrading. Opposition voters are also citizens, serving National Service and paid taxes as well. The PAP can use the argument that they are not obliged to help the opposition parties, but punishing voters is not the same thing. Where does freedom of choice come into the picture? All hogwash!.

In everything there is always a limit in how far we can push. Everything has a 'Moore's Law' lurking behind how far we can go. Nothing ever progresses towards eternity. Their glory days could end sooner or later.
The fall of Empires cannot even be prevented, and the British was the biggest empire to fall. China's dynasties came and went, no matter how powerful, just like the grandeur of the Manchus, or Qing Dynasty. Hitler and Napolean thought they could defeat anyone with their military prowess but fell at the feet of the weaker former Soviet Union. When normal human effort fail or cannot defeat them, God and nature gave a helping hand.
Some empires fall for various reasons. Arrogance, corruption, lack of economic resources, unable to contend with opposition internally, underestimating enemies externally and always believing in the myth that it is the privilege of one race being here to rule over all others. They fail to remember that men proposes but God disposes. Never try to use the name of God to control others, because God may vent his anger over such distortion.
Huawei's top chip scientist is now warning of chip limit that Nvidia will soon face. I think Jensen Huang is well aware of that day coming, listening to his espouse. And that will add to the mantra that even businesses are not spared the effect of 'Moore's Law'. In this case new developments will see to the demise of old technology and old-style businesses. Just look at how many global giants have fallen into bad times or nothingness - Kodak, Japanese camera makers, Japanese electronics giants like Sony, Panasonic, Akai, Sansui, Nakamichi and others all now lost at sea.
