Why is the mantra suddenly pinpointing North Korea as a threat, when North Korea has done nothing against ASEAN since it became a nuclear state? The reason is obvious. North Korea is helping Russia and probably helping Iran to go nuclear. That is the reason and that is the Sword of Damocles hanging over the heads of the USA and the West. And that is the reason ASEAN doggies are being told to bark at North Korea's evolving nuclear upgrading. The USA is using the 'borrowing sword to kill' in dealing with North Korea.
Trump failed to rein in North Korea despite two attempts. Suffice to say, telling North Korea's to denuclearize is a line that cannot be crossed. Three generations of the Kim family had been fixated on North Korea being a nuclear state and is not going to be given up after all the sanctions and punishments. To be honest, if Kim Jong Un ever gives up his nuclear weapons, that is the end of the Kim dynasty. Even if Trump did promise him that he will remain allow Kim to remain in power after denuclearization, what about the next succeeding President? Will he even agree to uphold the pledge? For all we know, even Trump cannot be trusted with his pledge. You cannot trust a rogue and Kim knows it long enough.
