Easy for poor countries to multiply, difficult for rich countries to do so

When population increased and job opportunities were not there, the Singapore Government even drafted draconian measures with its 'stop at two' mantra. I believe punishment was also mandatory, such as priority for school registration for example. Later, the mantra was changed to tell people to have more children if they can afford to, meaning the rich can have more children, but not the poor. Now, the Singapore Government is throwing incentives for people to have more children, mostly favoring the rich like tax incentives, but such calls have fallen on deaf ears.

China did the same with its one child policy when it was in its poverty- stricken years, which has been demolished as well, yet population growth has not expanded again as expected. The more progress in economic terms a country has reached, the more difficult it is to get people to marry and have children. It is a global issue.

I do not believe India can do that if it were to take a leaf from what Singapore did to curb its population growth. The poorer a country is, the more difficult it is to curb population growth. It is a rather unique feature of human nature.

That is the absolute truth. When Singaporeans were poor, people having six to eight children were the norm. Anything less was not a bonus, lol.

Today, Singaporeans are rich (sorry if I am generalizing), yet people are not having children, or at most one or two is the norm. The bigger issue is that more than a quarter of the younger people are not thinking of tying the knot. How to have more children?

The cost of even one could kill an average income earners!

Routes costs a bomb!

Hell for the parents from Primary to Secondary School

No connections whats Alma Mater to those socalled prestigious schools had to purposely rent a housing Next to them and them declared close promity in order to have a chance to study there.

One-time Kee Cheo said will try to have more chances for non Alma Mater connections but just wayang only

They still have to pamper to the influential and powderful ones unlike China.

Average income earners even with both working also cannot compete and survive to have more children lah!

What's the point be slaves and usually for the family and children sake, even unhappy at workplaces with evil bosses had to bear and swallowed the dignity and pride!

So better be single no married free like a lark and if have enough shown the middle fingers to the Overlords!

These are just part of the problems and why no burdens carry burdens!

No need to have children, just have more foreigners.

Hahaha

Instead of children, some go for dogs and cats. I am afraid true blue Sinkies are a dying breed - an extinction specie.

That is why I said, sell the island and share the loot before all be passed to foreigners.

We might even have been sold already without realizing it. How many people know that Christmas Island was administered by Singapore until 1958, when it was taken over by Australia and given a 2.33 million pounds as compensation?

Be careful of what you wish for. Selling out Singapore means, someone else owns the property. We may have to leave the island. Where do we go? Zimbabwe maybe?

Some can retire in China or other SE Asian countries. Some can become little sultans in Malaysia or Batam and Bintang. Some can become maharajahs in India.

Unless we are all going to be millionaires from the proceeds of the sale, not always sure that others would accept us. Moreover, it does not mean that the proceeds of the sale of the island will be distributed fairly among the citizens.

These are just my random thoughts anyway. But you can keep dreaming your Singapore dream.

On the other hand, I am sure Zimbabwe will readily accept all millionaires, lol.

How much would Singapore be worth to big countries like the USA, China, India or to Indonesia and Malaysia? Let them bid for it. The total assets on the islands and the strategic importance will mean the 3 million Singaporeans would be a millionaire many times over. Unless some silly buggers think it is ok to share the wealth with foreigners as well.

The big powers are all eyeing Singapore and planning to take over Singapore, and a slight mistake is all it takes for them to take over Singapore for free and leaving Singaporeans with nothing. If it is officially sold, then every Singaporean can claim a share. Better than nothing if taken over by big powers.
Think about it. Someone said oredy sold.

When the Chinese built Forest City to attract rich Chinese to Malaysia, the Malaysian Government under Mahathir would not even want them there.

That is easily said than done. Would the Indonesians or Malaysians even allow China to buy over Singapore? Forest City is already a precedent to look at. What about allowing India or USA taking over?

When Singapore joined with Malaysia in 1963, we already had confrontation from Indonesia. This is a Muslim enclave, and they have to look after its heritage, not pander to big powers that can only create trouble.

Let us not look or hope for trouble, when trouble is not looking for us like in Gaza and Middle East.

It will be a piece of cake if the Americans want to take over Singapore and Singapore is willing to sell. They can print a few trillion of dollars, just the cost of paper and ink, to pay for it. The Indons and Malaysians will be lan lan if Trump says he wants to take Singapore. What can they do?

India will not pay a cent to take over Singapore. They would take Singapore for free by sending more Indians here.

China will have to pay with gold or RMB. Singapore is not part of Indonesia or Malaysia and they have no reason to say no. They also have no means to say no.

This may be fantasy talk, but who knows what will happen tomorrow. Ya, maybe taken over with anyone knowing. Then Singaporeans will be lan lan.
