Indian military expansionism - The foxes will say the hens love them

India’s increasing military footprint is largely welcomed in Southeast Asia, which sees India as relatively benign rather than aggressive or imperialist, says former foreign correspondent Nirmal Ghosh.

SINGAPORE: Located around 80 nautical miles from Aceh and 430 nautical miles from the coast of Thailand, the Great Nicobar Island is closer to these Southeast Asian countries than it is to India.

But the sleepy island - the site of a roughly US$10 billion infrastructure project championed by the Indian government as one that would “enhance India's national security, strategic and defence presence” - has drawn little commentary from Southeast Asia so far.  CNA

Indian military expansionism is welcomed in Southeast Asia? My eyeballs are rolling. Which SE Asian state would love the Indian military in the region? Oh, they have little commentary on India's expansion. Silence means consent. This is the reasoning of clowns.

As the first sentence said it, Nicobar is nearer to Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia than India. Why is there a need for this poor country that could barely feed its people to want to spend US$10 billion to build a naval base in a deserted island? Who are the enemies the Indians are defending from? Or what is the intent of India to insert military forces into SE Asia? To show the Asean countries that India is a superpower, a regional hegemon?

India is relatively benign and not aggressive? Says who? My little toes are all laughing. But this kind of lies will be welcomed by the dense and unthinking. Ask the neighbours of India, ie Bhutan, Nepal, Sikkim, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Maldives, Sri Lanka and China. India still sits on hundreds of thousands square kilometers of Chinese lands that the Brits stole from China and refused to return them to China. India's hostile and aggressive regional hegemon behaviours has made enemies of every one of its immediate neighbours. India is still claiming part of Kashmir, Indianised those under its control. India is daydreaming about the Bharat Empire that extends from Afghanistan to Myanmar, including Tibet and the islands in the Indian Ocean. It is all shown in the Indian map of the Bharat Empire. India has no imperialist dream?  Oops, many little boys and girls in Singapore will believe so.

India is benign, not expansionist? The fox saying the hens love them? Only silly hen will love the Indian foxes and want the foxes to protect them. Asean countries that think India is benign and welcomed by Asean please raise your hand. I see one hand waving frantically.

What do you think?

There is a commentary by an Indian Geopolitical Analyst that even the USA is seeing India as irrelevant in their scheme of things in East Asia. Modi can continue to hug and cling to Trump's leg as much as he wants, but the stray dog is losing its usefulness in the eyes of Trump.

The perception he was talking about involves the changes by the USA Government, removing the title 'Indo' from the Indo-Pacific Command and renaming it just 'US Pacific Command'.

Before the change, India was supposed to be part of the Indo-Pacific Command structure in Asia, with India overseeing the Indian Ocean sphere of influence on behalf of the USA. The USA now realizes that India is hardly capable of playing its part as a party to the former Indo-Pacific Command structure.

This may seem a minor change, but the implications are hardly minor. For India, it means the USA is not looking at India as a geopolitical ally, but a passenger that could be a liability moving forward. The USA no longer sees India as a relevant partner that it can still use against China.

In time to come, India's position in QUAD is also becoming irrelevant. What has India contributed to QUAD since its formation in 2007? Same as what has India contributed to BRICS since its inauguration in 2009? Oops, sorry, India's contribution in BRICS is being a good 'trojan horse' for the USA.

Modi is positioning India as the hegemon of SE Asia. Now looking East as the West is gone. Iran and the Arab states will be too powerful for India to mess around with.

India has no respect for any state in ASEAN, thinking it is a super power. What is Indonesia to India? The Indians think Indonesia will like to welcome India as the big brother of ASEAN, to lead ASEAN.

Cannot scare his neighbors, particularly Pakistan. Now turning to bullying ASEAN?

Hugging terrorist Netanyahu and claiming Israel is his motherland tells the Arabs and Iranians whose side India is on. Two days after the hugging, war breaks out. Rather too co-incidental I would think.

Haha Redbean, the one hand waving frantically belongs to someone who thinks he can punch above his weight?

Big talking Modi now has no friend other than Netanyahu. He dared not complain when meeting Trump about the Indian sailors being killed by the Americans. All his boastfulness disappeared when seeing Trump.
Now no small neighbours to bully. No big master to lean on. Now thinking maybe ASEAN states are good for the taking.

Modi has a lot of admirers in ASEAN, all waiting to welcome him to boss around in ASEAN.

Modi was having a very awkward moment at the G7 Meeting. He wanted to hug Trump so badly but Trump walked passed him without bothering to look at him.
