If China allows Nvidia to keep selling less powerful chips, it breeds a dependency mentality and does not promote innovation for Chinese chipmakers like Huawei and SMIC among others. Necessity is the mother of invention and relying on others does not promote innovation. It stifles innovation by taking the easy way out. National Security Issue is another reason not to be held hostage in times of conflict by foreign Governments.
China may right now be still lagging behind the USA in high-end chips, but the gap is closing. Never underestimate the resolve of the Chinese when they decide to take on challenges. The Chinese resolve is to win, not to be just on par.
The USA and the West wanted to keep China away from doing experiments in space by preventing China from going to the International Space Station. China just built its own Tiangong Space Station and now they are worried about what the Chinese are putting on its very own space station.
The USA and its allies wanted to cripple China's aviation industry by sanctioning the sale of jet engines for the C919 planes. Now China has succeeded in making its own jet engines for the C919. Boeing and Airbus are going to face real competition from COMAC, with China's domestic carriers opting for China's domestically developed planes. The demand of the Chinese domestic aviation sector alone is enough to keep COMAC busy as thousands of planes are needed for the expanding Chinese domestic market. This is on top of other countries now also buying the C919.
Another area the USA and its allies tried to cripple China was its high-speed rail, with the sanctioning of high-end bearings for trains. China has also overcome this hurdle and is capable of producing such bearings to keep the high-speed rail system running and expanding.
Did China foresee all that all these hurdles will be erected to cripple China's development? I think China saw all the dirty tricks long before they were put into motion and had been working decisively behind closed doors to overcome them, a mission that was maybe decided decades earlier.
Talking about chips and AI, China is now enjoying the blessing that chip and AI talents are converging onto the Chinese mainland, all thanks to the trade war, espionage war and anti-Chinese propaganda war trotted out by Trump.

Trump has perhaps realized that the USA cannot stop China in any area, militarily and economically today. Neither can the USA's proxy war against Russia make headway in terms of victory for Ukraine or peace talks getting close, closer or closest whatever Trump wants to paint it. There is a perception that Trump is beginning to realize and be content with controlling South America under the Monroe Doctrine, while discreetly also realizing that a multi-polar world emerging is on the cards.
Russia controlling Europe as its sphere of influence, is the other polar power that may be allowed to emerge. The Europeans are, of course, extremely worried and holding high level pow-wows and carrying out shadow boxing to find ways to carry the bag themselves when the USA abandons Europe totally to concentrate on South America. Trump is serious about taking Greenland first of all for its resources, even gloating about bribing Greenlanders to join the USA, before it also falls to the Russians. Seizing Greenland will result in NATO in turmoil. It shows that Trump does not care about NATO's article 5 or NATO unity bullshit and just caring more about USA interests or USA first, if you believe that.
The third polar power emerging will be dominated by China in East, Central and South-East Asia. And this scenario that really scares the Taiwanese most of all, if in reality Trump is thinking about throwing Taiwan under the bus eventually. Takaichi's trip to Washington in April may be sounding out something, perhaps asking for or by Japan to carry the bag over Taiwan. China has now cut off dual use rare earth elements to cripple Japan's military ambitions, which will also cripple other sectors of Japan's industry. China must watch Japan like a hawk now, knowing what the sneaky Japs can do when desperate.
On other geopolitical issue, playing the India card to divide Russia and China is not working, with Palki Sharma now demonizing the USA big time after Trump's remark about Modi plea begging him with 'Sir, may I see you please', with intent to put Modi in a bad light. USA has lost the India card as well, so Asia is beyond the USA's control. The USA pushed Russia towards China. The USA pushed Iran towards China. The USA has now also pushed India closer to Russia than ever. China and Russia must send a 'thank you' note to Trump.
