So, with my two cents worth in opinion, China must continue to treat India at arm's length, not necessarily as bitter enemy, knowing India's past history towards China, even before Modi. Indians wants the cake and eat it. India is always looking for relationships that benefit itself solely, not any win-win relationships that benefits both countries. Not to say even benefitting other countries trying to join BRICS.
Yet India is always trying to compare itself with China. What is the purpose when India is already left so far behind by China economically. logistically and influencing neighbors as well. Which country around India can truly be considered its good loyal neighbor? And India is not happy with China for being nice to its neighbors. Whatever for?

Modi thought he was white sitting around at the G7 meeting, watching the ongoings. They actually were making fun of him for years already, with no intention to invite him to join the G7 as a member. Many Indians were commenting that India's GDP is now more than some in the G7 and should entitled India to be in the bloc.
While Modi was desperately hoping to be invited to join the G7, but disappointed, the G7 went to invite China to be a member. But China refused to join this poor white men's club.
This is like begging to be invited to Trump's inauguration but being turned down, while Trump invited Xi only to be turned down by Xi.
