SINGAPORE
— The Government is ramping up resources in order to prepare for the
possibility of more than 5,000 new Covid-19 infections a day, of which
about 10 per cent, or 500 people, may need to be warded for at least a
week, Finance Minister Lawrence Wong said on Monday (Sept 27).
“We
want to be able to deal with a scenario where cases surge up to 5,000
new cases a day or maybe more,” said Mr Wong, the co-chair of the
ministerial task force on Covid-19, during an interview with Bloomberg
Television.
Mr Wong was responding to a question by anchor
Haslinda Amin, who had queried him about what is needed for Singapore’s
economic reopening to continue.
Explaining how the task force
arrived at this parameter, Mr Wong said that although 0.2 per cent of
Covid-19 positive cases require treatment in intensive care units
(ICUs), around 50 times that number of infected cases require close
monitoring in the hospital as they could be older, have serious symptoms
or comorbidities.
Said Mr Wong: “To provide timely care for the
persons who need ICU treatment, the doctors need to admit about 10 per
cent of infected persons to our hospitals because these are the ones
that the doctors would triage and identify as the more vulnerable
persons.”
On Sunday, Singapore recorded 1,939 new Covid-19 cases, including five imported cases, the highest of the pandemic so far.
If
Singapore reaches 5,000 cases daily, that would mean hospitals would
need to take in 500 people who would need stays of at least a week, said
Mr Wong.

It is not just 5000 cases, but exponentially increase thereafter. The virus is now spreading at insane rate. So the next number is 10,000 cases , 20,000 cases ? Who know if we already hit 10,000 since our government is world famous for manipulating number ? Remember it not longer about staying hospital, but quarantine at home as well ?
How conveniently for them to say when sinkies need to go for quarantine for 10 days whenever they and their family that live under one root get the virus. He thinkk that everyone is paid like millionaires out of taxpayer'money ? Once you get quarantinue, there's possibility you get to lose your job due to replacement, and you find all kind of excuse that company terminate you even if you are top performant because company cannot afford to standstill while you are under quarantine.
For every 1000 cases a day, all the overly, obscenely, and unconscionably paid Ministers' salaries musf be cut by 10 percent.
If daily infections reached 5000 cases on any day, all the Ministers' salaries must be cut by 50 percent.
Otherwise, they are not motivated enough to ensure the good health and safety of the citizens.
They are taking things for granted and anyhow experimenting, without much serious thoughts given to the whole Pandemic.
Instead of following China's successful method of dealing with the Covid-19, these idiots are following the US and UK by deliberately exlosing the population to the Delta Variants, by purposely importing them from India.

You notice the same pattern from these articles that support Singapore. Nothing is mention about quarantine period that affect job. How so convenient ? It is not quarantine has no effect on financial, mental, health.

5,000 in hospitals is just the more serious cases that will need hospitalisation. There will be more on home recovery or isolation if their infections is not leading to serious issues. The target right now is 50% will be on home recovery or isolation but like all others, is a moving target. So, what is the actual number that we are talking about?
Yesterday, two fully vaccinated patients died and no unvaccinated had kicked the bucket. So, how do we read the situation and how do we interpret that in terms of protection against serious complications?

We can track the caseload as well as mobility data to assess the likely trajectory.
We can relax further, if we can clear the 3rd shot boosters for most of the early vaccination responders.
Many parents are understandably anxious about their unvaccinated young kids.
That will come - it’s a matter of 2-3 months as we track data elsewhere, preferably including field data from others.
We can afford to wait and track as the pre-puberty kids below 12 years old have very strong and fast 1st line defences against the Covid virus.
This is quite unlike the flu virus, which is dangerous to both the very old and the very young.
So if this were a new flu virus pandemic, we would be extremely worried for our young kids, esp those under 5.
But the Covid virus is like the SARS or MERS virus - dangerous to the old and very mild for the young below 12.
True, we do have kids with weakened immune system, either from illnesses like leukemia, or from genetic causes which affect their 1st line immune response.
There are some signs that Down syndrome is a higher risk factor for serious Covid illness, perhaps for genetic reasons which scramble their immune response.
Leukemia is the cancer of the blood, which messes up the immune response bcos most of the 1st line response depends on the white blood cells and various other defence cells patrolling in the blood.
So for a small minority of pre-teen children, there is cause for concern.
The USA Government is now warning it's citizens travelling here that Singapore and Hong Kong are dangerous territories. This is just the low end of the expected infection rate resulting from living with the virus by opening widely. Are we achieving the wrong objective?
What will other countries be telling their people when the situation gets more serious? I do not remember Singapore being designated as dangerous territory before. We are charting dangerous territory now.
Citizen's warning are always taken as noises to be brushed aside, and like opposition voices in Parliament, will always be drowned out by sheer weight of the power of the authority.
When outside forces, like the USA, take up the issue, and by association the followers towing the line, it is going to carry some weight and make some sense for the powers that be to see some light.
For local consumption the threat and argument of loss of jobs and business suffering carry much weight. But these issues mean nothing to outside forces like the USA. Countries suffering or dying is not their business. They only care for their citizens, which they have to answer for.
At the way things are going, Singapore would soon become a basket case in this pandemic. And the only countries that would allow their citizens to visit Singapore would be the basket case countries.
