Medisave, the untouchable
Recently there have been quite a number of letters to the forum discussing the money in the Medisave and to use it for health screening. Though the reasons seem logical, they violated the fundamental reason for the $30k in the Medisave. It is to pay expensive hospitalisation bill when the day comes for admission. So this sum cannot be touched.
It is a very important sum of money to save the dying. The living must find their own ways to keep themselves alive. And they can be assured that when they are dying, and needs hospitalisation, the money is there.

Exactly. Everyone has to die sometime. It is not always a matter of extending life, but dying with dignity—palliative care, etc.
Health screening is a once-off, regular (every year/few years) cost. So the "system" can be adjusted for it. However the "system", Medisave is run by the government, and therefore inherently FUCKED.
As usual with govt programs into which the citizens are FORCED to contribute: they, the programs are nothing but SCAMS and ILLUSIONS at best, and OUTRIGHT CHEATING, THEFT and EXTORTION as a matter of course.
Private health insurance is the way to go for. There's the argument that "some people can't afford it" so the govt steps in.
This is, as always fallacious. The key then would be to ASSIST those people in ways to INCREASE their wealth so they can afford it, rather than giving them a handout, which is funded by taxes on the rest of the productive population.
the govt does not give handouts in this case. what the govt done is to make it affordable to all by making sure everyone has money in their medisave. money acquired by compulsion from their cpf.
