Singapore's Kerdang Kerbau Hospital is conducting a clinical on children age 5-11 using Pfizer/Moderna vaccines in lower dosage. Actually it is recruiting children for this trial and very likely the parents would be making the decision, ie, giving consent for the trial.
So far no one from the animal lovers community is protesting. They used to protest against the use of animals like guinea pigs, mice, monkeys, dogs and cats for clinical trials. Why are they reticent in this case? My guess, the guinea pigs and other animals did not give their consent and cannot protest on their own. So it is natural and good that they need the assistance of human beans to protest and object for them. Animal lovers also cannot protest as children are not animals, so not within their areas of interest and concern.
In this case if the children were recruited into the programme, they surely would have obtained the consent of their parents. At these tender age, the children would not be able to give their own consent and rightfully the wiser parents would have to consent on their behalf, knowing what is good or bad for them.
So, for those people protesting in the social media, they may be barking up the wrong tree. When the parents of these children are willing to give their consent for the use of this experimental vaccine, why should they be protesting? It is not their children that are undergoing the trial. And as they said, the benefits outweigh the risk. Everything is done legally.
I really cannot think of any good reason to protest when it is like a willing buyer willing seller case., like two consenting adults saying ok. The govt surely knows that this is done for a good cause. The parents too would know the risk and the goodness of this trial. They would surely exercise good judgement on behalf of their dear children.
Wondering why they did not choose to use the Chinese vaccines that are safer, using traditional method to produce and with inactivated virus. Just wondering.

PS. With or without this trial, the govt is going to vaccinate all the school going children after the school holiday, in January 2022. Ong Ye Kung said early next year. Please correct me if I am wrong on this vaccination plan for children. Not sure if parental consent would be needed or the parents can opt their children out of it. Or is it compulsory or otherwise. Maybe not compulsory but there will be restrictions for those not vaccinated like the case of the adults. Let's wait for the official announcement.
Latest in the news, the children would be under observation for 15 months. Does this mean no compulsory vaccination until the trial is over? Also, the reporter said the vaccine is 96% effective in preventing infection. I hope I heard this clearly on CNA.

This is a very brave experiment. When mice or guinea pigs are used, they can simply throw them away when things go wrong.
When children are involved, it is a totally new consideration.
Why not use animals to experiment first?
Why not ask Pfizer and Moderna to do the experiments on other countries children, for example USA, India or Indonesia that have such huge population.

Excellent' response for KKH COVID-19 child vaccination trial, study may begin next week
A trial to vaccinate children aged five to 11 against COVID-19 could begin as early as next week, involving about 150 participants.
The study by the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital aims to look at the Pfizer vaccine's efficacy and safety among children in Singapore, said Dr Yung Chee Fu, an infectious diseases consultant at the hospital's paediatrics department, on Friday (Nov 19).

It is also expected to help smoothen the process when Singapore rolls out the vaccine at scale.
"Vaccinating children is not the same as vaccinating adults. So we're looking at a whole broad range of logistical issues that can come up," said Dr Yung.
He added that the recruitment for participants has closed, just days after it opened on Tuesday, after an "excellent" response. He did not provide sign-up figures.
"We need to go through the individuals who have registered their interest. We are heartened by the response so far, it's been excellent. And we hope when everything's in place, to start the trial itself."
Two of the volunteers are from the Foong family - 10-year-old Nathan and eight-year-old Phoebe.

Their parents, Elvin and Esther Foong, said the decision was made after much discussion.
"They've seen a lot of their relatives, a lot of their friends get COVID. And they've also seen that because some of them are vaccinated, they actually recover a lot faster," said Mr Foong.
"So with that information, they were more prepared to say they don't mind giving it a try."
The family is also hoping to travel to Malaysia to reunite with their grandfather, after being apart for two years.
"All of us miss our parents, but we have reservations in going back because sometimes there are so many cases," said Mrs Foong.

"With the kids being vaccinated, plus us being vaccinated, we feel that it's a bit safer for us to go back."
TRIAL EVALUATION PROCESS, DOSAGE
Dr Yung said there is a thorough evaluation process in place for the trial.
Participants who take part in the trial should not be immunocompromised or have any serious illness, but those with mild and well-controlled conditions such as asthma and eczema will be eligible.
They should not have been infected by COVID-19 before as well.
Under the trial, children will get two shots of the paediatric dose. As recommended by manufacturer Pfizer, the dose will be one-third of the adult shot. They will be observed for 30 minutes after receiving each dose.

Parents will receive a vaccine diary to note down observations in their children for the first seven days, such as whether they experience any side effects like a fever or rashes.
The children will be monitored for 15 months and return to the hospital for regular check-ups.
Blood samples will also be taken to track their antibody levels.
Dr Yung said the trial is an important step to get young children protected, especially as children in that age group are one of the most vulnerable now.
"They are actually at the highest risk to get what we call an inflammatory response post COVID, which can be quite severe. And we've had a number of cases."
He was referring to six children aged from two months to 11 years old, who had been infected with the MIS-C syndrome - where organs in the body get inflamed due to COVID-19, and patients may need intensive care.
Getting inoculated could thus protect children from severe illness, said Dr Yung, adding that the vaccine's safety has been well-documented.
After more than a year, the USA still vaccinated only 59% of it's adult population itself. Why? There must be some things amiss in spite of all the hype about efficacy, mix and match possibilities etc.
Do we actually believe the USA itself will succeed in vaccinating children, when parents of those children themselves are not having anything to do with the experimental vaccine.
I do hope the rest of the world does not fall into a trap sett to harm the next generation. If the vaccines had been made from traditional proven methods perhaps it could be supported, but mRNA is still an experimental vaccine and carries risk that are unknown years down the road without the usual long term trial.
Want to take the risk, go ahead.
And please remember the 'no liability clause' in using the vaccine. But then, they can always blame on underlying medical conditions when it comes to fatalities.
People can get Covid-19 booster shots 5 months after second dose from Nov 24
Those who are eligible to receive their Covid-19 booster shots can now get them five months after completing their primary two-dose regime from Wednesday (Nov 24), said Health Minister Ong Ye Kung on Saturday (Nov 20).
This would mean that half the population would likely have received their booster by the end of the year.
Mr Ong, co-chair of the multi-ministry task force press conference tackling Covid-19, said that the Expert Committee on Covid-19 Vaccination now recommends that the interval rate for receiving boosters be standardised to five months for all age groups.
Previously, the recommendation was that boosters be administered six months after the second dose for those aged 30 to 59, and five months after the second dose for those aged 60 and above, he said during a press conference by the task force.
"So with this change, from now to end-December, we hope to administer about 1.5 million boosters," he said.
"In addition, raising our coverage from 21 per cent of our population to about 50 per cent... means by year-end, half of our population will be freshly boosted with high levels of antibodies," he added.
He stressed that the third dose is now a must, due to the dominant Delta variant of the virus.
"At some point, we will need everyone who has two doses of vaccine to get a third one, as with the Delta variant, there is now an emerging view among clinical and scientific communities that (the Covid-19 vaccine) is a three-dose vaccine, just like for hepatitis B."
The Health Ministry said on Saturday that the waning of antibodies occurs around six months after the second dose and earlier for those who are older.
"The committee now recommends that we standardise the interval rate to five months for all age groups eligible for boosters, as this would be an appropriate interval to pre-empt waning of antibodies for all," it added.
Invitations via SMS to take these shots will be sent out to this group of people before their five-month interval.
People currently eligible for vaccine booster shots include those aged 30 and above, and front-line workers who are at risk of Covid-19 infection.
"For those who are eligible based on the criteria to date, but have not received their SMS invitations, they are also invited to walk in to any Moderna vaccination centre to receive their booster vaccination without a need to book an appointment," said the ministry.
Satan also said that there is going to be a new definition of what constitutes full vaccination down the road.
So, the reality is that in days to come, two doses does not constitute full vaccination. Then two doses plus one booster will likewise be also classified as not full vaccination if they come out with calls for a second booster shot to be considered fully vaccinated. When will all this end I wonder?

Young people should not assume that they are protected from Covid-19 and thus do not require vaccinations, the Health Ministry’s director of medical services Kenneth Mak said on Saturday (Nov 20).
“There are some who hold the view that because they're young, or lack any other high risk features, (and are prepared) to take the chance of getting infected and hold out against vaccination,” said Assoc Prof Mak at a virtual press conference by the national task force on Covid-19.
“This is not a safe approach to take,” he stressed.
There are cases of unvaccinated youth warded in the intensive care unit, even though they have no history of medical concerns previously.
“They remain critically ill, not assured that they will invariably make a good recovery, (and the possibility of) death still exists for some of them. Don't play with your life and assume that getting infected is safe for you when you are not vaccinated,” said Assoc Prof Mak.
Around 15.6per cent of all cases on Friday were aged between 20 and 30, considered as part of the group more “socially active” in the community as they leave home on a regular basis for work or other reasons. This is up from 14.2 per cent for this group four weeks ago, he said.
With Singapore ending its “stabilisation phase” of managing Covid-19 and loosening social measures, he warned that there will likely be more cases among youths.
“We must not be complacent and assume that all young people infected with Covid-19 will have good outcomes,” said Assoc Prof Mak, as he urged unvaccinated youths to get the jab.
INFECTIONS AMONG CHILDREN
Meanwhile, the proportion of cases for those aged 12 to 20 — namely, the school-going population — has remained stable between four to five per cent in the past month, a testament to the measures taken in schools to limit transmissions, he added.
Young children in this group form about 11.2 per cent of all infected cases on Friday, significantly higher than 6.7 per cent a month ago.
“These children remain vulnerable because they are working on extending the national vaccination programme to cover children between five and 12, and regulatory approvals with the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines are still in the works.
“We will soon have robust real world data on the safety profile of the vaccine in children, which will provide us with greater confidence that the vaccines are safe for children less than 12 years of age in protecting them against Covid-19 infection,” said the MOH official, noting that the United States has already begun vaccinating young children and more than 2.6 million children have already gotten their first dose.
The KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital is also studying how to vaccinate young children, he added.
The roll out of vaccinations for this age group in Singapore could occur sometime in January next year, said Assoc Prof Mak.
The MTF must make public the study and review on the effectiveness of the mRNA and traditional method vaccines. Both would have different effectiveness. And it is not scientific to measure the level of antibodies in the body.
Only with the right data would the need for the booster shot and when be scientifically administered. Otherwise it is opinion or could be worse, commercial decision.

Most People Don't Need a Covid Vaccine Booster, New Review Says
None of the data on coronavirus vaccines so far provides credible evidence in support of boosters for the general population, according to a review published on Monday by an international group of scientists, including some at the Food and Drug Administration and the World Health Organization.
The 18 authors include Dr. Philip Krause and Dr. Marion Gruber, F.D.A. scientists who announced last month that they will be leaving the agency, at least in part because they disagreed with the Biden administration’s push for boosters before federal scientists could review the evidence and make recommendations.
The Biden administration has proposed administering vaccine boosters eight months after the initial shots. But many scientists have opposed the plan, saying the vaccines continue to be powerfully protective against severe illness and hospitalization. A committee of advisers to the F.D.A. is scheduled to meet on Friday to review the data.
In the new review, published in The Lancet, experts said that whatever advantage boosters provide would not outweigh the benefit of using those doses to protect the billions of people who remain unvaccinated worldwide. Boosters may be useful in some people with weak immune systems, they said, but are not yet needed for the general population.
Several studies published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, including three on Friday, suggest that while efficacy against infection with the Delta variant seems to wane slightly over time, the vaccines hold steady against severe illness in all age groups. Only in older adults over 75 do the vaccines show some weakening in protection against hospitalization.
Immunity conferred by vaccines relies on protection both from antibodies and from immune cells. Although the levels of antibodies may wane over time — and raise the risk of infection — the body’s memory of the virus is long-lived.
The vaccines are slightly less effective against infection with the Delta variant than with the Alpha variant, but the virus has not yet evolved to evade the sustained responses from immune cells, the experts said. Boosters may eventually be needed even for the general population if a variant emerges that sidesteps the immune response.
The experts cautioned that promoting boosters before they are needed, as well as any reports of side effects from booster shots such as heart problems or Guillain-Barre syndrome, may undermine confidence in the primary vaccination.
Data from Israel suggest that booster doses enhance protection against infection. But that evidence was collected just a week or so after the third dose and may not hold up over time, the experts said.

Looks like Fauci is being paid to say this. Next year he would be saying a second booster shot would complete the regime. Then the next year he would say another would be better.
