Are the
elite here, like the Americans, trying to seal their domination and control of
the system for the elite? Think about it, why must an elected President be an
elite? Do the ordinary people have the right to become the President? It used
to be but not anymore. You need to be the elite of the elite to be eligible to
stand as a candidate for Elected President. Have daft Sinkies forgotten that
this is a democracy and the country belongs to them and not to the elite?
The next red
herring is minority as the Elected President. Is this really the solution,
really what the Singaporeans want? Think very carefully and do not ask for
things that could turn out to be a can of worms. If you still cannot get it,
let me quote a blogger, Bapak’s comment in the TRE on this subject.
‘If they can use this minority representation as excuse to introduce GRC, l don’t see why not one day more minority representation for citizens with origin from Pinoyland, Ahnehland, Thailand, Jokertaland, Nigerianland,…etc. So where is this Singapore core they are talking about? Don’t you think they are good at talk one thing & do another thing? This GRC thing is very anti-Singaporean.’
Be very
careful what you are asking. This minority thing has changed. We no longer are
a city state defined by CMIO. Now minorities include Pinoys, Thais, Myanmese,
Vietnamese, Indonesians and even Europeans and Africans. Where shall we stop if
we open this Pandora box?
Just to
rotate among every minority it would take half a century at least. Are we
thinking? Are our politicians thinking? What is the beef?
Singapore is
for everyone? Not for Singaporeans? And what is the new Singaporean? Like I
said before, Singapore used to belong to CMIO. Today Singapore belongs to ‘chap
cheng kia’. There are now at least 10 ethnic tribes in the Singapore equation. Ethnic
minorities have taken a different shade and colour. Don’t pray pray.

Do you think Singapore core means PAP core?

RB, can you stop trying to stir up trouble. Yes Singapore is for everyone who cares to come here to earn a living and definitely for those who come here to stay permanently and become Singaporeans. Anyone who wish to come here to Singapore are welcome, as long as they can contribute to a better Singapore.
There is no such thing called " true blue Singaporean "anymore. Anyone holding a Singaporean passport is a Singaporean. So RB, please stop this nonsense and stop stirring up trouble and create unhappiness.

Really ah?
And what is a "better" Singapore?
Better for who?
Who decides?

Anon 9:30,
I am a Singapore and still believe that this island belongs to Singaporeans and their children.
Are you a Singaporean, a new citizen, a foreigner, or a traitor to Singaporeans who think it is ok for foreigners to take over Singapore without the consent of Singaporeans?
You don't need the world, China or India to sink this island. If the Indonesians were to pee on Singapore, the island will be flooded.
You want the whole world to come here? 'Bo tau now'.
If they change the constipation to make sure all minority got chance to be president, then the queue for president would be very long. Next could be Malay, then Indian, then Pinoy, then Myanmar, then Indonesian, then Vietnamese, then European, then American, then African, next please.
By the time it reaches the turn for a Chinese President it would be another 100 years.
This little island of Singapore is a good place for everyone who can contribute to make Singapore a better place. Why close the door to talents from the PRC or India or Europe. Singapore will never survive if we do not invite foreign talents to help us grow. It is sad that people like Redbean feel so strongly to restrict the inflow of talents for abroad. Why? Is it because he feels that Singaporeans are not good enough to compete? Singaporeans can learn from these FTs who have come here to help grow the economy and to make this country a better place for all.
It is very sad to see that there is so much anti-FTs here in this vibrant city.

/// This little island of Singapore is a good place for "everyone" who can contribute to make Singapore a better place. ///
ANSWER
- Yes. So why not start with "everyone" being defined as Singaporeans first.
/// Why close the door to talents from the PRC or India or Europe. ////
ANSWER
Why close the doors to non PAP talents from Singapore?
///Singapore will never survive if we do not invite foreign talents to help us grow. ///
ANSWER
Do you really mean PAP will never survive if we do not invite pro PAP foreign talents to help us collect more money?
/// Is it because he feels that Singaporeans are not good enough to compete? ///
ANSWER
Of course. Because the playing field is not level.
First off to level the playing field.
Abolish National Service for Singaporeans.
If not, then compulsory National Service for all Aliens wanting to be Singaporeans regardless of age.
/// Singaporeans can learn from these FTs who have come here to help grow the economy and to make this country a better place for all. ///
ANSWER
Or is it GLCs can benefit with better access to Indian markets by allowing Indian nationals free access to Singapore's labour markets?
So Singaporean employees to subsidize GLC profits in India?
Say cheese or CECA?
Anon 11:18,
How big is Singapore, how big is your house?
If you bring in the world's talent here, what is left for Singaporeans?
Are you a Singaporean, a new citizen, a foreigner or a traitor?
This is not about competition. This is about a country and the well being of its citizens.

/// Singaporeans can learn from these FTs who have come here to help grow the economy and to make this country a better place for all. ///

Singaporeans?
WP cronies?
SDP cronies?
PAP cronies?
redbean's cronies?
Who benefits?

Vote wisely in our Presidential elections.
@ everyone:
The idea of "Singaporean" is an ever evolving concept. The moment you think you know it, it changes.
No one can keep up. Don't even bother trying. What you used to think of what a "Singaporean" is 30 years ago no longer applies. You could do well to UPDATE your brain to the latest version. 💀

/// The idea of "Singaporean" is an ever evolving concept. The moment you think you know it, it changes. ///
Really ah?
If really like this then what for I serve National Service?
Who am I defending?
@ 218:
You have to realize that if Singapore fell, a lot of powerful people will lose their obscenely high paying job. So, if they want to keeping their jobs and earning the unspeakably huge amount of "salary" they receive...with NO RISK, by the way...
So when you ask:
>> Who am I defending? <<
I would say, whoever sent you there. Obvious or not?
@ March 10, 2016 12:51 pm
Thank you for the enlightenment.
So I am defending whoever sent me to do National Service.
Therefore;
I am serving National Service because I voted for the political party that supports National Service.
So if I don't want to serve National Service;
Then I must vote for a political party that will abolish National Service.
tio bo?
Anon 11:18,
FTs to help Singapore? You FTs can't even help your own countries and your own people, you can help Singapore? You are parasites here, sponging on a Singapore already successful, built by Singaporeans.
Go back and look at the mess in your countries.
Singaporeans planted trees, FTs came to pick the fruits and told Singaporeans to go away.
Hi March 10, 2016 1:46 pm
Just because you feel a little squeeze and have to compete, you get touchy about FTs coming here. Please do not be too angry or possessive about this country. Everyone welcome, as long as they can contribute. Why don't you come out of your comfort zone and compete fairly on level playing field. Being a Singaporean you should have an advantage over FTs coming here. Please be more compassionate. Live and let live.
"Being a Singaporean you should have an advantage over FTs coming here."
March 10, 2016 1:54 pm
Maybe that's exactly the problem.
Do you think we Singaporeans have a huge disadvantage compared with FTs?
Do you think we accidentally voted in a pro Alien, high salaried government in 2015 - who has a very bad attitude of "what's wrong with collecting more money from Singaporeans"?
NS men must not be fooled by performing the "duties" at 400 to 500pm but asking for nothing in return from Singapore.
Some old cocks in past 20 years lost their economic benefits ie good jobs such as IT and those in banks to FTs. These NS men did not know how to defend themselves. They still voted for the policy to take away their sons and daughters s economic benefits. They really thought foreigners from some kampong like Chennai universities should beat their NTU or NUS degrees.
Have the younger ones learned from the old cocks? eg the FT auntie who managed the train services marvelously? Angmor could go inside the depot. Depot gate could collapse and killed security guard. Super foreigner talent right? What about the screwed up stock exchange merger that stirred up prices producing zero results? Exchange UPS that was not charged at all, when power failed. etc. The young ones need learn from the same experience like the old cocks perhaps. They would change to vote for someones who dont screw them in job markets when they learn from hard way.
Citizens need to think of ways to force FT having EP or PR to do "NS" in different ways. One simple way is to charge levies on such passes including PR. 20-30% of salary. Politicians must be bold, be wise, jobs available in Singapore is not free for FT to grab lah. Citizens must grab them too. Dont be ashamed to chase the hungry dogs away. Agree? Heard about such thing as chasing the hungry dogs? In old days, old folks would not need to be taught to do it right.
If Singaporeans are STILL stupid and gullible after 20 years of screwing, can they defend Singapore during war? Defend their own jobs first, be wise and be hard to politicians giving jobs away to foreigners. Think of ways to get it right. Voting can it right Vote for alternatives. Not FT can do and citizens cannot do. Dont be fooled by the talks shows lah.
Do you want to "Fuck Yew'?
Do you want to say 'Yes" and Vote opposition?
How can you say you can defend Singapore?
When you can't even defend your own jobs from being stolen by Aliens & Traitors.
After all the kpkb, nothing ( will and ) has changed?
Ha ha ha
In fact, it has "gone backwards" and more ( from 60% increased to 70% ) said it's the "right" way forward with resounding support?
All these are just futile, wasting time?
The destiny is not in the 30% hands ( and will never be even if they are right in their prognosis )?
If the 70% are all blind or eyes paste stamps, it cannot be helped?
This is the realities confronting the 30%?
The 30% can only pray the 70% better get the road maps correct and dun walk into a deadend or into the wilderness desert?
And get everybody on board into abyss and a situation of no hope?
An inevitable implosion in the end?
The only likely outcome?
With destiny not in their hands?
Fate has eluded ( the 30% ) sinkies?
Now many just have to make do stuck in the middle of an ocean in an overcrowded, and relatively vulnerable sampan?
Hoping that the sampan would not capsize in rough waters?
Many in the 30% have no say whatsoever where it is heading or what is happening in the sampan and its eventual fate?
"RI’s principal, Mr Chan Poh Meng, highlighted the pursuit of equality – but what for? It is a natural consequence that students from affluent backgrounds get into better schools because their parents are likely more well-heeled and can afford better-quality education for them."
"Elitism, in reality, is just the darker side of meritocracy. What has come about is a natural consequence of meritocracy – when we stream students according to their abilities, it is only natural that students whose families can afford better quality education make it to better institutions."
Rb // The next red herring is minority as the Elected President. Is this really the solution, really what the Singaporeans want? Think very carefully and do not ask for things that could turn out to be a can of worms. //
Uncle RB, the reply to your concern could be found in the quote below:
"We should relook the way we go off the well-trodden path, and ensure that we do not shake up the status quo just for the sake of doing so. We should relook the way we go off the well-trodden path, and ensure that we do not shake up the status quo just for the sake of doing so."
The writer is only 20 this year, a former RI boy who wrote to the xxxxtimes in response to what he thought was tinkering of a system that work well ( alas, in another area lah ...... )
But his quote could well be a response to the concern you have of further tinkering the "uneven playing field to an inclination of near 90 degrees in favour of ...... YEW know who ......"?
In such an inclined "near 90 degrees playing field ", who not in their circle can ascend to reach the goal post at the upper end and score without been trashed 100-鸡蛋 everytime and go down for the count, on bended knees, everytime they enter the ring, to challenge YEW know who ......"?
Another quote from this boy worth putting up here in response to the title of this post:
Quote
" Equality is making everyone stoop down to the lowest common denominator of society – everyone does the same thing and all are given equal probabilities. Equity entails everyone doing what their abilities allow them to do, and everyone being given equal opportunities to succeed; only the most outstanding grab those opportunities."
Unquote
Of course, the boy was writing on another matter lah ......
but his response fitted quite well with the current impending "tinkering"?
Further quotes:
Quote
"Often, what constitutes equality does not equate to equity. If we take a modern society and reduce it back to an agrarian one, where everyone puts in equal effort, we achieve equality but not equity – because we are taking people with the capability to be, for instance, lawyers and doctors, and making them do the same menial tasks as everyone else."
Unquote
In that light, can the same be said of say, one Tan Ku Ku, who is gatekept out of "equity" in the name ( "disguise" ) of "equality"?
The Pinoys will be the happiest new citizens here. And when a Pinoy becomes the EP, they will cheer and claim the Ppines have taken over Singapore.
Quote
"There is no point aiming for equality for the sake of equality, and giving up equity."
Unquote
In that light again, will not say a Tan Chin Ku also be kept out of "equity" and be "forced" to give it up for "aiming equality for the sake of equality"?
Even a "20-yo" could be aghast with the impending changes ( albeit in another sphere )?
But the worst inequity could be done to say a Mr Tan (Ka) Keow Ku?
Quote
"A natural consequence that stratifies society does have its own purpose for the well-educated, critical minds to mingle together to build Singapore up to greater heights."
Unquote
If a system tinkers to "gatekeep" out the above-mentioned Tan Keow Ku, it may inadvertently and unwittingly lose out the opportunity to celebrate every joyous occasion of "High-5-ing"?
The very strength of a meritocratic attribute in Mr Tan Keow Ku?
Then this society will be "poorer" .......?
And can only "Jiak Chao" 。。。。。。oops ...... can only "Jiak Fried 鸡"?
No equity opportunity to "high-5"?
Or equity opportunity for commoners to take a peep and pay a visit to a 50,000 sq ft GCB ( good class bungalow ) off Holland Rd?
Or the equity opportunity to enjoy the fruits of "Nobel-like quality" of a "47-page economic master blueprint" ( published in 2011? ) "transform into action plans"?
Oops ..... should be "transformed .........."
Dr TCB will contest the next PE.
But Presidential Council said must be qualified candidate holding current billion Dr dollars office.
If Dr TCB already fully retired and not holding current billion S$$ office.
Sorry not qualified.
