Contributions to Roy Ngerng’s legal fee hits $50,000

This morning I read that the donations to the cause of Roy’s legal fee have hit $50,000 in 3 days. This shows that Singaporeans are willing to stand up to fight for a cause they believe in, in this case it is not only about defending a young man but also about the fate of their CPF money.

The contributions are still pouring in and are likely to go beyond the $70,000 target. This is the spirit of true blue Singaporeans, the type of Singaporeans that disappeared into Sinkies but rising and standing on their feet and putting their money where their mouth is. The Singaporeans are standing behind Roy, to support the underdog in a worthy cause.

That’s the way to go. For every Singaporean that contributed, there must be tens or hundreds or thousands also in support of this cause. After all it is their money they are defending. The turnout at Hong Lim this Saturday is likely to exceed those that went to support the protest against the Population White Paper.

It is interesting to see how many would be there to fight for their CPF savings. This could be the Kopitiam Movement that is taking shape, a spontaneous cry of the people never seen before.

Roy can get all the financial support and more but if PAP can also get all the vote support to win 90% or more seats next election, then how?

So a lot of Sinkies will still cannot get their CPF at 55 lah, tio bo?

Which means support for Roy is totally wasted lah.

Personally, I feel that regardless of the outcome, the battle if already half-won for Singaporeans.

We should be proud that there are Singaporeans who are not afraid to show support for what they believe in. We are not going to hide or keep quiet just because there is a slim chance of winning. Minimumly, the message that people are not afraid anymore, gets across.

With action, there is hope.
With no action, zero hope.

Ah loy still havent got the picture.By revealing how much he got he will be telling others he can afford so much ,though there is a limit for compensation for such case.
Just like cpf ,not necessarily to reveal how much we have in our reserve and how we invest.
Treat it as a tax and stay healthier and richer.

A show of people power!!! The great thing about this fracas is it shows that people do care..greater problems will arise when HDB residents wake up n find out how overpriced their pigeon hole is n the high prices are necessary to deplete cpf savings..what about medical n insurance payouts..who's making the big money...n all the payments are out of citizenry's cpf..how in the world will future generations be able to withdraw their cpf..the minimum sum bar is already set so highness HDB housing will continue to spiral..do you envisage salary levels rerated 200-300%? What a mess!! Good luck Roy ...the people will provide you with the slingshot...one good shot...n watch Goliath topple...hehe

There had been cases when the rich and powerful abused the legal system to sue the ordinary people knowing that the poor cannot afford to pay for justice.

This kind of bullying the poor is becoming habitual by the rich and famous. The people must stand up to such abuses and stand together to fight the bullies. If the people can chip in with a small financial contribution each, the rich and powerful will have to fight the people and would not get their way, buying justice that is unaffordable to the poor.

The people must unite against the minority rich and powerful to protect themselves.

Due to numerous factors cause the massive turnaround of the Punngol East BE, the new citizens awareness, mobile internet, CPF locked up, inflation etc?

If the Elected President is scrap Tan Cheng Bock and Tan Kin Lian and Inderjit Singh might consider joining the opposition candidate, rather then the Elected President, as the see numerous policies of the past GRC the negative effect is surfacing, it a greater challenge if there is not enough opp in the parliament?

Singapoorean had benefit from the numerous policies of the earlier ministers, now is different ball games?

It is not they got against the party they had benefit,it is because if Singapore face with too much challenge like the greatest riot the Tekka riot and the Geylang riot against Singapore will be in trouble, years of building Singapore will go to waste?

More opposition gave a more balance views and better ideas to societies rather then a single party system, where even the commnunist bloc had abandon long ago after seeing the development of the north?

They would scrap the GRC system, which bring in the likes of Tin Pei Ling, MBT and LSS if they difficulties, in by the SMC way on one to one contest?

Previously it almost sure walkover, as opposition can't bring in the average percentage of good few candidates ?

So the can bring in any candidates like Tin Pei Ling?

But with the speed and price of the mobile continue to improve, that is less chances they can sell the policies in 2016, people rather not pay extra to buy newspapers and lesser depend on MSM for news, as they can get target news and comment and sometimes influences the change of policies, through the internet?

Unlike the past where many policies can be force through even it is not popular, using the MSM, but know most prefer to get their altenate news through internet?

They can't risk put to their high flyer like George Yeo and the 2nd Trade and Industries ministers in the GRC, as their popularity kept dropping, as the opposition are wiser nowadays, the concentrate their strength and continue recruit higher and higher calibre candidates to join forces with them they are united with the causes, they know that if they don't join forces, they can't stand a chance against the main party massive machinery?

So on the govt side many know they had less chance of winning they are less willing like last time to join the main party? Its a chicken and egg situations?

If too much higher calibre ministers lost at the same time they got to coalition with the opposition parties and appoint opposition as their ministers?

They can't afford to lost too many important ministers, it is very difficult to parachute new ministers to come in and shown their inexperience?

With the internet the trend is continue changing faster and faster?

So they might abolish the outmoded GRC system and concentrate on the single seat system to prevent the lost of too many important ministers?

The previous thinking of getting the higher votes and popular ministers helm the GRC to pull in those who might not be able to come in, got to change as the trend and internet hasten the changes?

Someone donated $2000 to Roy. This is looking like a game of poker with the money of the people on one side and the PM on the other. It is All In.

Anonymous said...

Don't be happy at this stage as our "Zheng Hu" may probably say the exercise has not been "licensed", and all donation money be considered "illegal"....

One would get pleasantly surprised if that does not come true...

Why should they locked up their CPF if they can't use it ang get it back forever between 55 and 65 and 70, getting back the CPF between these time is important for them to hedge against any if they lost their jobs due to heavy competition and more foreigners become citizens? A multi source of income is important in today trend?

It is very unwise to locked up the CPF if they can get higher returns and diversified their income, in today changing trends as jobs is no so stable as in the past?

If they lost their job they still can get back their CPF to temporary fall back?

It is not difficult if their CPF to put put in Singapore blue chips or high yielding dividend stocks to get average more then 3.8 percents excluding capital gains if the hold long term and average down against volitilities of the market, in blue chips?

So that any crisis in case they lost their jobs don't need to go to credit companies or ah loong?

In today high inflation, which is easier to use up the savings?

Many governments around the world hate the internet -- for good reason. The Arab Spring -- the overthrow of corrupt dictators have all been aided and coordinated by social media and text messaging. Atrocities and other brutal shit the govt pulls goes out to the world by Twitter, FaceBook, YouTube etc. FASTER than the large media conglomerates can report the events.

The Singapore government is going to learn more and more painful lessons on the power of social media. There is little doubt they will try to censor and control it, and they will FAIL EPICALLY.

It is indeed interesting times we live in ;-)

Wah, Roy is getting so much support this may cause a run on the CPF ! Lets see if there is a crowd outside all the CPF offices after that.

Chua Chin Leng蔡镇龍 aka redbean said...

I guarantee you there will be no run on the CPF. How can you go to CPF to withdraw your money when you don't have the right to do so?

You can get your money only when CPF said so. Not the same as bank deposits.

65 percents of the votes went to the opposition voices, could lead to the discard of Elected President, because of the opposition divided votes if not Tan Cheng Bock became the Elected President next election, might not so easy to get funding for the Govt?

Due to the changing voting patterns and internet, could pressure the govt to change various policies like returning people CPF at 55 as promised?
As people place less and less emphasis from getting the news from the MSM?

Reduce the immigrant to reduce inflation and other unhealthy consequences? So that less income disparities, higher birthrate and higher standard of living, which lesser demands from new citizens in everything?

Concentrate on developing the local SME to become multi national companies to create better jobs and higher pay for local?

Massive stimulus measures to bring out the highest potential of the SME in opposition previous policies of relying on foreign investment on cheap labour?

Which lead to Denise Phua suggested the removal of EP? Or maybe the GRC to reduce the risk of losing importgant ministers as in ALjunied GRC?

As the average votes continue to drop in 2 prevously election, the EP and PE by E, even the first Hougang By E, with YSL prob, they don't make much headway?

As the opposition wiser the recuit higher calibre candidates and concentrate them, visit every househould talk to everyone and the new citizens earlier to beat the govt advantage of the MSM?

Opposition using internet to reach out to the mass more, to cater to and empowered the local more through various scheme which learn from the North Europe?

People paying Roy to do the fighting for them?
After all it is only money, lah!
Poor Roy could have been bruised, jailed for life or expelled(if he is not born here)
Why not ask the Ravi guy to waive all legal fees or collect if he is able to successfully defend Roy?

You can't jail anyone for defamation. This is a feud between two parties, not a crime.

Return the CPF to those who reach 55 as promised, many married late, need the money to feed their family children?

Their children came out to work after 22?

So it is crucial not to keep people money critical at these important juncture of their life where high chance been retrenched and difficult to find jobs and had a family to feed?

Many married late and need the money, so as not to go to credit companies or AH LOONg?

Return at least 50 percent or $50K to people, maybe if opposition took over they return most of the money?

Anonymous said...

$70K.
This is the new way of saying "Fuck PAP".

Anonymous said...

The donation towards Roy has reached $50K. That is good. However, Roy has already lost his fight. No one has ever won a court case against the untouchables. In Roy's case he is dead meat even before his first day in court. Although the chances of Roy winning his case is ZERO, there is one point all Singaporeans should take heart to. That is, this donation has shown the unpopularity of this PAP government and some of their policies. I wonder how much the PM will ask for as damage to compensate him for deformation of his character. When that is finally decided I wonder if Singaporean will donate to this fund.

Anonymous said...

True, Roy will lose this fight. But the ground support shows that PAP is heading for big trouble. This is not a battle betw Roy and the PM but the people against the govt.

Everyone donating knows that they will lose the money. But money is not an issue. It is to send a message.

True or false?

Q: How do Singaporeans say "Fuck PAP" in Singlish?

Anonymous said...

You bet Mr Davinder Singh and team lawyers are watching the crowdfunding closely. They will figure if Roy can raise $70k in 4 days, then the defamation amount might just be in the 300,000 (6 figures range based on past records) and they will say in less than 18 day the amount can be raised.

When that happens, PM Lee is essentially benefiting from Singaporeans which will be a moral bankruptcy on his character if he let that happens.

Virgo49 said...

Hi Anon @ 8.13

Bet your last dollar$ that LHL will instruct Davinder to seek a high compensation.

He, will then maybe donate to some charity to show his magnanimous side to atone for the SINs that he had done.

Do good deeds for daft sinkies to praise and vote for him again.

The CPF possibly people most important asset, which they had been promised 30 over years ago is their saving and can get back when the reach 55 as promised?

It very scary they changed what they promised, with whenever excuses and they can't get their money back?

People have very good reasons to take out their CPF and use when they need, what for keep at one place the can't out?

The CPF could cause them at least 20 percent of the votes couple with other issues?

As many will hope that the opposition return them their hard earned money if they vote them?

After all it what was promised year ago? From 60 percent drop to 40 percent?

Now people reach 40s are worried about job stability?

With 20 percent lost of votes, due to the speed and cost, more people prefer to use mobile internet, which is faster and more balance view rather then the state controlled medias?

With 20 percent lost in votes most GRC will be change hand and the new citizens can't compensate the lost votes so much, with the internet many were aware the situation they are in?

So is it wiser to abolish the GRC and return to the single seats, so that there will not so many ministers pull down by the new comers? Many highly capable persons are joining the opposition rapidly?

Anonymous said...

Someone said that he/she won't even donate half a cent. But if one is a running dog, would you need to cry out loud that you are not donating?

Anonymous said...

Many people have their own valid personal reasons to be able to withdraw their CPF, be it to start a small business, support their family members in times of emergency needs whether it is for education, medical or even through hard times like losing their jobs, etc.

The PAP Govt can't simply destroy a CPF members' personal aspirations with the votes of the majority MPs' hands without prior any prior consent of the CPF members just because a small minority got cheated of their CPF savings by PRC prostitutes.

Of course we are angry that when we reach 55, we are told that we are not old enough to handle our own monies. What kind of twisted PAP logic is that?

Various questions on CPF returning as promised:

One side said ssome would live till 85 need to locked up the CPF forever, only can give some money at 65 and could raise to 70 a few hundreds per month and the ladies may used up all their money on the Batam men?

On the businessmen point of view most would like to borrow the money at 3 percent, only when a person reach 65 or 70 then return them a few hundreds per month, don't need pay them back the principal? Who don't want these lucrative deal?

Why not if you borrow from bank higher interests and lots of condition then you can borrow?

Many businessmen would like to have the money, which forever don't need the pay the principal, many of them would not have to pay the money if they died before 65 and not many people able to live past 70? You can used the money start investing easily can get 8 percent capital plus dividend yield, you only need to pay the persons some money only at 65?

Many of the difficult to raise funds due to various reasons, if give the opportunities with these very favourable opportunities they would grab it, invest in stock and properties or other type of business etc?

For those persons who want to get it back it is due to they expected to get it back how scary and frustrated they heard the rule had changed as it was promised, they expect to take it back for many reasons, and it is their own money they should have the option, the main reason is it is promised to return to them at 55? And many seriously need the money to tide over difficulties and other uses?
