Putin has gone on record to say that the rebels were behind the chemical
attack and not Assad. His commentary was published in the NYT, ‘…there
is every reason to believe it was used not by the Syrian Army, but by
opposition forces, to provoke the intervention by their powerful foreign
patrons, who would be siding with the fundamentalists”.
If one is to look at the intent and the outcome of the chemical attack,
it is very clear who would want to commit such an act and who has the
reason to do so. Similarly, the Assad govt would have the least reason
to use chemical weapons to invite an attack. They are not idiots to want
to invite an American attack knowing that the Americans have drawn a
red line on chemical attacks. People should not take the patronizing
position that the Assad is daft and unthinking.
On the other hand, Obama and Kerry spoke with a blank face to the
American people and their allies that it was the Assad govt that
attacked the rebels with chemical weapons, exactly like what Colin
Powell did at the UN. So who is telling the truth and who is lying? One
of the two parties must be lying, telling white lies to the Americans
and to the world.
Remember the sinking of the South Korean naval ship Choenan and the
killing the sailors on board. They even fabricated the weapon used with
hastily written words to deceive the world that it was from North Korea
until they were proven to be fake.
With all the wild accusations in this case, not much different from the
accusations of WMD against Saddam Hussein, to discover the truth it is
best to look at the intent and the consequences of the act. Who will
benefit from the act and who will suffer from the act? This kind of
deduction is the most logical as it is based on the premises that all
the parties are intelligent and rational people.
How many more lies would the liars say before their noses grow to one
foot long? The liars in this case are evil and wicked, using chemical
weapons to serve their private agenda and killing innocent Syrians and
wanting to kill more. Is there justice? Is there a God to punish such
compulsive liars?
The American people are no fools and will not be fooled again. The
British have already shown their middle finger to Cameron. And there are
many Americans out there gathering evidence and protesting against an
attack on Syria with another lie. Obama and Kerry are looking more
devilish by the days.

These are presidents of big countries and they dared lie to their people just like that. What else they would not do?
In politics, one of the tricks which separates the masters from the amateurs is the extent the political operator can mix lies with the truth such that he controls the "narrative" to be sold to The Sheeple.
Presidents Assad, Putin, Obama; and nearly-almost-president Kerry are all reasonably good at mixing up cow dung and chocolate. To be sure, not everyone can be fooled all of the time. However, politics is about NUMBERS -- if you can bullshit enough people, that's usually good enough to proceed with the next phase of your Scam.
redbean and his ilk tend to go into paroxysms of moral superiority when there's a hint of heads of state and their governments telling lies to the people.
Me on the other hand -- I'm counting on such people to do such things. If everyone told the truth all of the time (which is IMPOSSIBLE), the world will be one huge boring place ;-)
As I've alluded before: there's plenty of horse trading going on behind the scenes. Sooner or later, money will enter the picture. The whole thing will be "settled", Assad will become another pawn of the US, and his bank account will suddenly grow in size. Putin will also get some kind of "cut" -- he's a well-known wheeler-dealer and master of public sentiment. Obama will be heralded as a "peacemaker", and Kerry will get a few blowjobs, and possibly run again for president. Defense manufacturers can breath a sigh of relief, and go back to producing "damn shiok" hardware for sale by arms dealers all over the world.
Everyone is happy happy.
Putin or Obama or Kerry are not liars. They are politician and politicians do not lie. They just said what serve their interest best.
P.S. I've been hinting on the importance of learning the "soft skills" of "perception management".
Everyone lives in a sort of trance-like state most of the time. They don't live in "reality" but in their own VERSION (interpretation, representation) of reality -- bolstered by rock-solid beliefs.
Belief Persistence/ Perverseness is a real aspect of human cognition and behaviour (beliefs guide behaviour). In a nutshell, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, the majority of people DIG IN EVEN HARDER on the beliefs they hold dear. The more you try to discredit their beliefs by FACT, the harder they dig in.
It would behoove the budding-wannabe confidence trickster to accept and master this fact of human nature. It is the backbone of most of the great con-games.
Now go forth children, and practice :-)

Politics is all about money. Love of money is the root of all evils/lies/bombing etc.
It is how powerful you are, not the logic of your argument.
Readbean,
"The American people are no fools and will not be fooled again."
You sure or not? Still remember what Obama said during 2008 Election "Change, change you can believe in.” I will have the most transparent administration.... No Lobbyists....and other craps"! They reelected him for 2nd term. Many who had voted Obama previously either regretted or blame the Repugs. The same with many Sinkies, for over fifties did the same and blame it on the 61%. I encounter many Black and Hispanic, no need to tell you whom they voted, except few exceptions - Dr. Cornel West, Tavis Smiley and Harry Belafonte. I really feel sorry for them. These minorities suffer the most... "stop and search and deportations.”
I can keep repeating, but do Singia including YOU really understands the issue before casting the votes. Die-hard Democrats refuse to see what happens, so are most Sinkies. I came to realize Sinkies love good speech and Obama is a wonderful speaker with the aid of Teleprompter. Many voted base on religions: They pray.... so are the opposite side... probably the same god. They pray before start killing each other and innocents’ victims and blame the other sides.
Before I stop ranting, since you know a bit of financial stuff . . . did you know Obama will nominate Lawrence Summer as Fed Chairman. This is the same man plus a few others that end Glass-Steagall Act during another liar administration Bill Clinton.
The better liars always win.

Conmen are usually cleverer than simple and honest folks.
It is usual and normal.

fuck lee hsien loong .. knnccb
RB, please leave international politics alone. It is not your strong suite. You have a lot to contribute to discussions on local issues. On the very same day that you said Putin backed down the ST republished a NYT article stating that Putin's gambit is causing Obama a headache. No analyst has agreed with your view, which is naieve, to say the least. Do not forget that Putin was the KGB chief.
Who are the liars in the war on Iraq?
After Iraq, people knew very well that a leopard can never change it's spots. So, who do you think are the liars?
Put it this way, Obama claimed Assad used chemical weapons and thus he was going to attack. Putin claimed the rebels did it. Putin could tell Obama he too had evidence and if Obama strikes he would strike as well.
He backed off and offered Assad to disarm and give up his chemical weapons. If this is not chicken out, what is? Whatever analysts you claim to say otherwise is only a figment of imagination. They thought Putin was clever by offering Assad's chemical weapons to the Americans and thus delayed the air strike. Obama still has the upper hand and could strike if he chose to and find fault with whatever Assad has surrendered like they did in Iraq. The Americans could just say not enough, got some more and more and Assad could have given up everything would still be in a fix no matter how much he denied. And Obama could then decide to strike or not to strike after disarming Assad's chemical weapons.
Putin could play hard ball, send in his ships and men into Syria and warn the Americans he would strike back if Obama strikes. That would become a game of brinkmanship.
Make peace not war. Anyway, no politicians speak the truth. Why bother to fight/argue for a bunch of liars?
Your insistence that Putin chickened out is hard to understand. Please do not carry it like a badge of honour. By the way, have you read today Editorial in the ST headlined Putin's gambit trumps Obama's gamble? It details why Putin has come up trumps and the Americans grudgingly realise that "their usually thoughtful commander-in-chief (was) outplayed both diplomatically and politically by the man he once likened to the brrody kid sitting at the back of the classroom". Still inisting that your analysis hold water?
You can called it a triumph but I disagree. He is offering Assad's chemical weapons to avoid an air strike. This is as good as telling the gangsters, please don't hit me, you can have my gold.
To you and to some it is brilliant, just to avoid an attack. To me it is appeasement, going down on his knees in the face of an aggressor.
I do not want to comment about our media and the position they take. You have your right to think their position is admirable and rational.
What would you think of a Singapore PM if another country threatens to attack us and he said, please don't attack, you can have our SIA or DBS or the Istana?

Don't worry lah. If Singapore is threatened Temasek and GIC (and savvy Singaporeans themselves) will figure out how to make money from the conflict.

Aiyah, why you so worked up one? Do read between the lines. Sometimes, redbean like to anyhow draw redlines, just like you know who. Sometimes, he uses sarcasm and reverse psychology - saying one thing and meaning another.
Chill........
