This
National Day is special in the sense that there will be two celebrations held
about the same time and within the same vicinity. One has a theme, Many
stories, One Singapore and the other, Reclaiming Singapore for Singaporeans.
The first, the official celebration organized by the Govt, will be held at the Marina Bay with much fanfare and all
the pomp and pageantry, a great festivity for all, Singaporeans and foreigners.
At least a hundred thousand spectators will be there, watching the parade and
performances and a grand display of fireworks to end the night.
Reclaiming
Singapore for Singaporeans will be
held a short distance away at the Speakers’ Corner in Hong Lim Park. There will likely be a
smaller gathering of mainly Singaporeans to celebrate the National Day
organized by Singaporeans with no official budget to give it the glamour and
colours of a joyous event. They will celebrate the National Day in a solemn low
key way, more in spirit as true blue Singaporeans, to remember the days gone
by, the great but forgotten Singaporeans that contributed to the success story
of this little island. They will remember what it was like when the island
residents were mainly Singaporeans, like a bigger kampong of people who lived
together for a long time and knew each and every one in the kampongs.
Amidst
this little celebration there will also be a tinge of sadness, of the days gone
by, the buildings and places that were lost forever, of the unrecognized and
fallen heroes that were cast aside by the furious pace of development and
change. There will be remembrance, there will be praises and regrets, but it
will still be a National Day celebration by the original Singaporeans, the
pioneers who built this nation and their loved ones.
Happy
National Day to all Singaporeans.

I think PAP will still be the government every National Day celebration till "don't know when".
So much so that when Sinkies think about nation, they also think about PAP and vice versa, tio bo?
What do you think?
WHY DO WE END UP LIKE THIS LAH..........ONE COUNTRY TWO CELEBRATIONS.......WHY WHY WHY ...........very sad .......
That's why it doesn't matter whether 2 or 3 or more National Day celebrations on National Day, as long as PAP is the government.
That's what really matters.
The hong Lin park one is for the losers lar as winners will go to the official one mah. That is 40% goes to hong Lin park and 60% goes to the official one lor. Tio Bo? I loser so I go to the hong Lin park one.
The day after National Day, everything is forgotten. Back to reality.
Please lah, National Day i symbolic. It is nothing but a symbol -- has nothing to do with reality, except put a certain "meaning" on reality. Symbols are for the symbol-minded -- quoting George Carlin, a man who made a career out of spotting the idiocy of humans.
There's a program on TV tomorrow about Singapore in 2030 -- how high density living is not only possible, but Singapore will do it well and once again become the envy of the world.
You can also buy a copy of Lee Kuan Yew's new book on his opinion and analysis of the world.
And of course there is Eid Al Fitr -- or "Hari Raya" as it is known locally. You can makan until your ass explodes, and perv the luscious Malay gals -- always hot and sexy.
Doesn't matter 1 or 2 National Day celebrations, as long as PAP is the government, they are good celebrations.
Doesn't matter black cat or white cat, as long as it catches mice, it is a good cat.
Wah tak boleh tahan lah. See hot Malay chick...Hormat senja...TA!

Like that ah, you know all the people attending Hong Lim are Sinkies and those attending the official one are Sinkies and PRs and foreigners. So only some Sinkies are losers while PRS and foreigners are winners. Tio boh?
And Matilah said this,
'There's a program on TV tomorrow about Singapore in 2030 -- how high density living is not only possible, but Singapore will do it well and once again become the envy of the world.'
Another programme to condition the daft that living in dog's kennel is good living? No car is good, taking public transport better? Jam packed trains are good and even more jam packed trains are better? High property prices are good, and higher property prices are better? More foreigners are good, and even more foreigners are better?
Should I laugh or cry?
@redeban:
Please lah. Watch the program with an open mind (if that is possible) then write one of your critical screeds and entertain your fans.
I'm here in Oz. I'm hoping CNA will post the vid on their site or someone uploads it to YouTube so I can watch it too. The program is called Imagine Singapore 2030 8pm tomorrow.
If your world-view has its basis in "better-or-worse" then you are going to be in constant states of agitation, comparison and judgement and narrow mindedness.
If you shift to "what is possible" and "it is possible to do this well" so that wonderful outcomes evolve, and those outcomes lead to more possibility, your heart will be filled with more positive things. Sorry if I'm sounding like a new age "motivational" speaker, it is not my intention I assure you.
You want Singapore to return to the "old days". Well, I can say, for me the old days had their time and place, but compared to what is possible NOW, the old days really SUCKED ASS.
IMO, singapore 2030 will be even more awesome!
Matilah, I close my eyes and will agree with you that we can even accommodate 30m in the island. And the programme will have all the facts and data to support such a scenario and very logical too.
It is a matter of what we want and the cost involved. If cost is not a factor, we can even build a heaven here for 30m people and living the most advanced and futuristic lifestyle to the envy of the world.
Mind you, what are the assumptions for that to happen? What is needed for a nation when everyone can live in a spacious 10k sq ft home and driving around in Merse and BMWs? Promising such a scenario is like promising a Swiss standard of living. It is possible if all the assumptions are there. In reality, it is not going to happen to the bulk of the people.
More than 2 celebrations as Hungry ghost are also celebrating their holiday everywhere with so many dinners and the crowd can be more than those at HLP.
Organiser at HLP should get a getai with pretty mei mei ,loosely dressed, singing on stage in order to secure 5 K crowd, and also as an appreciation to our 'pioneers'.
Even with a crowd of 2 K ,they can boast its 5 K because can claim 3 K are wandering spirits who are 'pioneers'.
Advisable and remember to offer 3 toast to the 'pioneers' who built this nation but are gone and not just whining on stage.
These 'pioneers' won't be happy seeing Sinkies occupying HLP and deprive them of a place to roam about, kpkb and loliloso .
Be realistic.Work harder and longer hour for a better tomorrow like what our pioneers did in the past.

Please, I don't need anyone to "agree" with me. I could be totally wrong. Even I don't take my own opinions seriously. I go with the EVIDENCE -- the only proviso being that the evidence is tested for veracity. And to me "I DON'T KNOW" is a valid answer. More importantly, it is back stop, because the natural tendency is for your brain to make something up if it senses it doesn't know.
Sure you have questions, as do I. i.e. We don't know the answers to gnawing questions we all have. However there are the "unknown unknowns" -- the questions we can't even ask because we don't even know the stuff we don't yet know about.
The assholes in the TRE and Hong Lim have only their emotions to go by. They have one or 2 experiences with crowded trains and immediately they conclude that Singapore is in trouble if they allow 6 or 9 or whatever millions.
The govt and business OTOH use science, maths and engineering to ensure that mega million population is possible, and SUSTAINABLE.
Sorry lah, I go with the evidence -- the science, math and engineering. This is the "signal" I pay attention to, and ignore or insult the "noise" emanating from the collective negative emotions and flawed judgement on the TRE and Hong Lim.
"Never underestimate the stupidity of people in large groups"
The island can easily have 50M population if we are to have underground homes with underground offices, factories, malls, hospitals, road and train etc networks........don't laugh........ we are talking about year 2100.........where people around the world have to queue for residency here.......
Like what they sing: WE ARE THE WORLD ....................
2.57, why u so pessimistic. I think minimum 100 million no problem as we can dig underground not only deeply but to the ocean floor. I think each country can claim 200 miles of sea that would increase sikas ore by more than 1000 times so 100 million is an understatement. It can well accommodate up to a billion people.
Imagine then the size of our economy, gdp and our army with national service we can easily have up to 200 million men under arm.
.......sorry........I guess your 2rm BTO flats will cost $10,000,000.00 each at that time.........believe this at your own risk .........
3.20 pls note.....
you are a better town planner.....min 10M PEOPLE......GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!
I can only say, never underestimate the stupidity of govt.
3.25 pm, that is what I call punch above our weight lar with one billion population with a 200 million army. Any country that dare to piss us off, we can bomb them to Stone Age with our might. With that kind of strength, we can even expand further. Can any legal guy can enlighten us what a country can claim underground? It can not be to the centre of he earth right? If that being the case, singapore can even build underground in the whole earth and can accommodate 20 to 30 billion people.
With a bit of imagination and thinking out of the box, one can solve the land limitation just like we manage to solve the water problem by turning lokang water to drinkable water. Tio Bo?
4.58pm, ya why restrict to only 200 miles, the whole earth underground can be used
