Hsien Loong’s National Day Speech

Hsien Loong is working hard on his new National Day Speech to the nation. And with the coverage of CNA, the speech is going to be broadcasted over many countries and will have millions of viewers. It is a great PR opportunity to sell the island and how well it is managed.

I hope he does not get carried away by the size of the audience and get down to really talk about the problems and challenges facing the people, the unhappiness and the concerns. There are many serious issues that will not go away just by not talking about them. In the past, most of his speeches were devoted to making the people feel good. The effect of such feel good speeches does not last longer than the next TV programme. It would be good if he could address the people’s concern, not what the Govt thinks are the people’s concerns or to say what the Govt thinks are the right things.

Would he be telling the people what is the Govt’s position on the 6.9m population and what is the situation now, what is the size of the population and what is the Govt’s intent? There were two public demonstrations against the 6.9m population and the disquiet cannot be ignored. Would he address the problems of locals losing jobs to foreigners, particularly in the PME fields and how the Govt is tackling the fake qualifications and discrimination against Singaporeans by foreigners here? Would he be talking about the housing problems, how many Singaporeans have been left out from public housing schemes by the bad policies of the past and what the Govt is going to do to redeem itself and to ensure that every Singaporean will have a chance to buy a HDB flat, that every male citizen who has served NS and will continue to be in the reserve, has the right to buy a public flat?

The problems of public transportation, car ownership and the regular breakdowns of the SMRT, what is the Govt thinking, what it is going to do about them? Higher ERPs and higher COEs are not going to solve these problems if the influx of foreigners continues and the target of 6.9m is still unchanged.

The high medical cost, the shortages of hospital beds when we don’t have such problems in the past when the govt was relatively very poor, fewer hospitals and few doctors. The waiting time to see a specialist, to see a medical practitioner, to see a dental surgeon, is now becoming ridiculous. Many would have died or suffered while waiting for their next appointments. Why are there such a big shortage of doctors and hospital beds and what are the solutions when the situation can only get worse with more immigrants coming in?

There are so many problems and so many things to answer. Can Hsien Loong address the problems and let the people know what the Govt will be doing, a change from the past when he painted almost an utopia, of happy and prosperous people in a vibrant and rich city and everyone hoping to live happily ever after?

RB, this is not the right forum lar to talk about problems. What problems anyway? The NDR speech is a celebration speech to talk about the good things that have been achieved, the feel good factors. If talk about problems, then the nation and people will be in bad mood, very sad and piss off mah. So u tell me lar, what type of speech is the right speech.

Knn, we may not like it but we have to face reality mah, Tio Bo?

Yah la. How can he talk about unhappy things like problems facing this tiny nation on his National Day Speech where billions of people from many nations including China and India are watching. He will use this opportunity to sell Singapore to the world to entice more tax evaders to settle down to here.

It is good that the latest 2rm bto is that cheap ............if the 2rm bto is that cheap, the 3rm prices will slump down, and the 4rm, 5rm, ECs, pte condo will then follow the downward adjustments..........

No need waste time over the NDR Speech.

One only need to sing Ai Pia Chia Ay Yeah and in 4 languages ,with feeling and
Sinkies will be motivated to work harder.

Otherwise his assistant should be able to read his mind and prepare for him and he just need to read.

PM should have enough rest and no overwork like me.We cannot afford to lose him.

Me wish him long life.

Does not matter what Ah Tee is going to say in his NDR speech.
How many Sinkies going to watch and listen anyway?
Singaporeans got no time to listen to fairy tales.

I thought all those problems you mentioned have been solved by the pappy government, no? The solution is to pass on these problems to us citizens - high medical bills and insurance premiums, runaway COE, ever higher food prices, these are all our problems to take care of, not the pappies'.

They ought to return every cents in the pap-controlled CPF to the folks immediately.

PAP scheme like 'minimum sums' to retain more of our hard-earnd money forcefully is wrong because it is against the wishes of the citizens who have pressed their intentions vey very clearly on many occasions to get back their money.

12.23 pm, not true lar.this policy affects all voting sinkies what but only 40% don't like cpf Suka Suka kena withheld. The other 60% agreed with the policy mah, Tio Bo?

So don't anyhow say hor even though I wanted my cpf back but Bo bian as kena screwed by the 60% lor but we have to accept democracy where majority rules mah so die die also Bo bian, knn or not?

To wilfully holding back our money & keep increasing the amount to be kept with PAP via the cpf control YET it is boasting about its hundreds of billions in reserve is highly contradicting.

>> get down to really talk about the problems and challenges facing the people,

Problems? Do people have problems, or do they think they have problems?

Perhaps people have too much idleness in their lives that their minds wander all over the place...and so it imagines problems, because then that would mean there is something to do. Fantastic. No more idleness.

>> the unhappiness .

How the fuck can you be unhappy in Singapore? In comparison to other places, relative to...alternative places in the world, I reckon folks are quite LUCKY in Singapore. Granted, you have to put in an effort to win, but anyone who doesn't believe luck plays her part -- for good or not -- is "mathematically-challenged". Don't squander you lucky shot.

IMO, you would have to try very hard to be "unhappy" in Singapore. Sure life is not a bed of fragrant flowers, there're sewers full of shit and decay too. so "happiness" and "unhappiness" are never permanent - they are moments which visit all of us.

If you are constantly unhappy in Singapore, you are the one with the problem. Not any one else, not the government, not your non-existent god/ imaginary space fairy...you. You are a sad ungrateful cocksucker and I hope the rest of us get to be ENTERTAINED by your self-inflicted suffering :-))

BTW, the "unhappiness" is also in your head, not in "reality".

>>and the concerns .

The only concerns such people should have is how to get laid more so that they're not such "downers" all the time.

Go on, have an orgasm or three...cum into someone's mouth, allow them to cum in yours....admit it...you know you want to ;-)

There is defintely enough popular support to hold a referendum against the 'minimum sums and withdrawal delays' policy by the pap-govt.

Who dun want their money back?

Could the case be brought to our esteemed High Courts to judge ?

Anonymous said...

12.55 pm no need referendum lar, GE is good enough that sinkie supported the policy so why u wanted to waste sinkie money to hold referendum for what? U got nothing better to do is it?

Matilah, you deserve a million dollar salary. Anything when compare to shit is good, even crumbs. Just keep comparing with people who are worse than you and you will believe you are in heaven.

correct but you see 40% of the electorate more one 1/3 voted for oppositon Yet it did not translate to a Parliament with one-third opposition MPs to block the 'minimum sums'.

to make political change we need 2/3 majority in Parliament..another 10 years?

how many five years do we have in our lives?

“During a parliamentary debate on 5 March 2013, DPM Tharman revealed that 55% of Singaporeans still cannot meet their CPF Minimum Sum requirement at age 55 in 2012.

The purpose of the Minimum Sum is, of course, to ensure that Singaporeans set aside sufficient savings to meet a basic level of needs in retirement. It was revised to $131,000 last July, up from the previous figure of $123,000."

Who do you think really needs your minimum sum? I think many Singaporeans don't need the minimum sums.

1.38pm, wrong lar, you can also get 60% and with 93% seats what. Wp strategy of focusing on specific location area is the best weapon against redrawing the line cause no matter how u redraw, once a big segment vote for u, it's hard to manipulate the boundary.

But if you contest here and they, then redrawing is the best weapon to defeat u.
