The wayang in Parliament
The WP has stoically spoken against the White Paper but still conceded to 5.9m people. Several PAP MPs also spoken against the 6.9m population. Among the notables who were not in favour are Christopher De Souza, Arthur Fong and Seah Kian Peng who spoke out strongly about the population projection. Inderjit Singh also wanted the Govt to take a breather to solve the present cumulated problems before embarking on such an ambitious projection. There are more than 40 PAP MPs who are scheduled to speak on the subject.
This White Paper is a good test case to see how independent PAP MPs could be from party stand and whether they can be their own men or women, to speak and vote against party position. The proof is in the pudding. If they are only able to speak but still got to vote along party line, then in the future no PAP candidate should feel so free to declare he is an independent man and would stand on his beliefs, values and principles, even voting against the party if he feels strongly against an issue.
We have seen four PAP MPs so far, and may there be more to come, and the findings could be based on a larger sample size.

The Papies directors in the smes or what ees and employers federation already made an outcry for more foreign workers for their own selfish interests. This also like the JB scratch and win scheme to con the elderly and the unsuspectings.
This is just wayang.
To join PAP means you don't want to be your own man.
Only one man matters in PAP.

Don't get deceived when the MPs spoke 'against' the policy their party tabled in Parliament.
What they spoke was political language, and don't take them seriously.

5.9 no need to be responsible for consequences. So can say anything mah. I can also say 5.8, even better.
Great. The parliamentary process is working -- as it always has -- regardless of the emotional nonsense from the rabble.
The debates and discussions are open, public and transparent.
Any which way you look at it, the population IS going to INCREASE because it needs to.
Many posters here label the PAP "stupid", "incompetent" etc. IMO, they are so out, they are not even wrong. (sloppy thinking)
The PAP are masters of the game based on false leads, mass fear and anxiety, carrot-and-stick mind games, and if necessary, the heavy hand of the rule of law. They've used these tactics to manipulate the Sheeple population who deserve the government they get.
Of course there's a "wayang" in parliament. It is EXPECTED lah. Like every transaction, you have to start the bidding HIGH, and then through the bargaining process you get to a lower figure which just happened to be or close to your original but unstated objective.
Start bid with 6.9 mill, counter offer 5.9 mill oo-ah-oo-ah wayang-wayang-KPKB a bit more...settle at, say 6.1 mill...which when implemented will turn out to be 6.5 mill.

To my MP Seah Kian Peng, you spoke against the Population White Paper and I thank you for that. Now if you have the guts to vote for NO, you will gain some respects from me and maybe my vote in the coming GE.
Also kudos to the other 3 MPs who spoke against. As for Grace Fool and the others who still tried to 'defend' either for the sake of defending or bootlicking their master, shame on you for letting your residents down.

I might be inclined to believe that it is petty attitudes like your which keep Singapore from moving forward, and Singaporeans themselves being judged collectively as "childish".

Everything is but a wayang. Life is a play. The parliament is a stage. The MPs are just actors and actresses. Democracy is just a cover up for dictators to run things from behind without creating extreme resentment.
7m or 10m or 20m is ok. Just give every singaporean a cash payout of $7k/ $10k/ $20k every month. Money can actually buy almost everything.
Blogging is a way for people to let go of some of their resentment so that it will not escalate to the next level of resentment and jeopardize the ruling family rule.
With the 5.9m alternative proposal, the WP is just as hypocritical as the PAP.
Why not put the White Paper for people to vote in a referendum?
If the PAP MPs really disagree with their own party, please resign and join the opposition parties! Their seats will go to the oppositions in the by-elections too.
