What is worth living for?

‘Fun City it isn’t. U.S. pollster Gallup conducts surveys in over 140 countries to compare how people feel about their lives. Singapore ranks as the most emotionless society in the world, behind Georgia, Lithuania, and Russia. Singaporeans are unlikely to report feelings of anger, physical pain, or other negative emotions. They’re not laughing a lot, either. “If you measure Singapore by the traditional indicators, they look like one of the best-run countries in the world,” says Jon Clifton, a Gallup partner in Washington. “But if you look at everything that makes life worth living, they’re not doing so well.”’

The above is a report by the Gallup Poll with comments that there is something really missing here. It is akin to what George Yeo said, ‘Everything looks so perfect…but it is not real.’ The comment by Jon Clifton, ‘…what makes life worth living, they’re not doing so well.’ Now is this serious?

The Sinkies are so happy watching how much their properties are worth as the prices keep going up, and smiling everyday, congratulating themselves that they are becoming millionaires without having to work for it. Isn’t that worth living for?

The Sinkies are driving the finest and most expensive cars in the world. This must be something to be proud of and to live for. One may include the milion and multi million dollar properties and the million dollar views these properties came with. The sights from the balconies are definitely worth living for.

And we have the best education for our children with many scoring straight As until the parents are too shy to talk about. Now the ministry also agrees and will not talk about them. Now what else to live for? Oh yes, we have the best and most expensive govt to live for don’t we? A caring and compassionate govt that will take care of every needs of the Sinkies, from cradle to grave, including the Sinkies’ savings. Sinkies will know that they will all live well and with a lot of money left when they depart from this worth. And at the slightest stir, the govt will quickly jump in to offer help and more schemes and solutions.

There are many more things worth living for, the fantasy land in Orchard Road, Avatar Gardens, beautiful buildings, all glittering in the night sky.

The Gallup Poll is wrong for not being able to see all these.

Window dressings do not impress every passerby.
Only those who take every glitter as gold gets con.
Living is far deeper than superficiality.

The Pro Alien Party is not interested in Singaporeans.
They are only interested in the Singapore Reserves.

The Singapore Reserves is so precious to them, even the Singapore President (Jaga Kereta) is not encouraged to ask what exactly it is he is supposed to be protecting.

Unbelievable, but true.

PS:
Was there ever a global public tender before the sale of POSB to DBS?
Was POSB part of our Singapore Reserves?
What do you think?

The bulk of the reserves is CPF money. Can you beat it?

Everything looks perfect on the surface. Yup, you are correct. What lies underneath no body knows. No strikes, no protests, no physical violence and yes no beggars on the street. All appear in perfect harmony. Is that so?

If only one cares to examine deeper and delve into our concrete cementary of living souls where more than 80% of citizens are entombed, more pain, heartaches, woes will unravel. The daily struggles and coping with living imponderables are shut off in a cleverly covered veneer of perfection. It's a question of time for it to implode. Some predict it in 2016? I'm not sure. What do you think?

What do you think DPM Teo?

Our Lords have grand plans up to 2050AD and from now till then, they have told us to expect them to give us good times ahead.
And
here You are telling us that some expect problems at 2016.

Me more optimistic lah. Expect some trouble makers to go and Sinkies will also be forced to wake up to the reality and take a more robust and proactive approach to deal with bullies. It will all be done to change the 'bopian/没法子' born loser situation.

It will be change that is ultimately forced on the people, the housing, NS, education, transport, You name it lah. Everything is hurting the people.

'Bopian pun tioh pian lah'
'Mati matic pun mau'

As some would say, forced by circumstances lah, What to do?

You of all person seem to be doing well! You play golf. Is conquering hole 18 of Horizon Hills worth living for? Is lowering your handicap to single digit worth living for?
You are a good photographer/artist with a special technique called Refraction and reflection and your paintings are now exhibited at NUSS with a price tag of $1000-$4000.
You are also a good blogger whose blogs are supported by thousand of otherwise hapless sinkie.
As for me I live for the next GE to see the despicalble PAP lost more votes!

Hi oldhorse,

My comments are in general and applicable the target audience is the average sinkie. I am also an average, maybe below average sinkie now: )

Pips have turned Sinkies into zombies that pay and pay. There is no freedom to think, talk and act, no passion, truth, kindness and appreciation of beauty in this small island.

Ask Lim Swee Say and he will tell you for feeling so rich every month reading the CPF statement.

Why are you working so hard to feed a leech like him?

I read your articles ocassionally and some of them are very good. However, I wish you would stop using the word "Sinkies". It is totally devoid of any meaning and has a childish ring to it.

Hi Anon 7:52, don't take it as a bad thing. Sinkie is just a short form and easier to post and read word than the long tongue twister Singaporean. A rose is a rose by whatever name you call it.

Sincity and Sinkies are synonymous with Singapore.
They are iconic to this tiny rock and justifiably so.
Everywhere in Blogoland, they are the most popular words.

I think the word "Sinkie" is more accurate than Singaporean.
We are sinking under a morass of incompetent policies.

Yes, "Sinkie" while pejorative, is lush with meaning and context.

Consider the CPF, the legalised theft by fraud and force... It is SUNKEN money.

Hence "Sinkie" : the people sinking into oblivion from being plundered and their money sunken, never to be recovered.

Got happy-ending fairytale?
