Guan Yin: I don’t enter Hades…
Why does this statement of Guan Yin keeps popping up in my mind? ‘I don’t enter Hades, who enters Hades?’ Then I thought to myself, ‘I don’t enter Heaven, who enters Heaven?’
Guan Yin boddhisatva made a vow that she will not become a buddha if she could not save all the sentient beings from hell. She also said that she would go to hell in the places of others if she had to.
I am no Guan Yin. I rather I go to heaven first than others. I want to be rich first than others. It is like a me first, others last. I don’t believe in living by examples, and I am only interested in my well beings first and foremost.
This is exactly what Matilah has been trying to educate the daft Sinkies. Be rich first, no bleeding heart. No hypocrisy. Look after your self interest first. For the rest, it is their problem. Matilah is going to be angry with me. Heheheh.

Angry? Not at all.
You've misunderstood me, and what RATIONAL self interest is.
Rational selfishness begins with the idea that you look after yourself and that everyone does. i.e. everyone is self-interested, or to use an Ayn Rand term "selfish".
Therefore to "win" you have to appreciate the selfishness of others and help them achieve their selfish ends, satisfying your own self interest in the process.
Human nature is what it is. The more selfish people you help, the more they will help you.
Easy, yah?
IRRATIONAL self interest, or narrow-minded selfishness is when you attempt to get away "cheap", by not helping other selfish people to your best ability and hope that they will help you in turn with "full value". Or vice versa.
The cause of many problems in commerce and in personal relationships occur when one side "expects" the other side to "help" and gets treated like shit in the process.
Selfish human beings are also easily offended. You can get away once, maybe even a few times. Then one day...WHACK!
World War 3 begins
P.S. Speaking of Guan Yin -- off topic
My medical informants tell me that our very own Emperor Guan Yu is not expected to last out the year.
Better put the champagne in the fridge for the upcoming celebration :-))
@ Matilah...please correct me if i m wrong
Randian Thinking
the state can't demand you sacrifice yourself (time, resources etc.), it must be a rational choice on your part. It's not an obligation, you can't be made to do it. The state may only protect the citizens
Problem is
laissez-faire from the state will only benefit people in the noe and people like me kena F@#K wholesale also don't noe
For me N Level Beng/Serf, Lucky/Unlucky got internet to find out what was going on and then some
The idea of "selfish" desire sounds seductive, even if i ever succeeded in securing that desire ... i know i will feel like shit cause i would have betrayed all i have learned n cared
Beng Think - Brotherhood and Empathy for the down trodden
Guess that's why i m a HAVE NOT.. as i still firmly believe in altruism and obligation
@ Matilah ... admit it ... you do have a soft spot!
or else you wont be reasoning with us/me ... a dumb f@#k HAVE NOT
Warning us our state/politicians is the biggest threat
Our State has this laissez-faire attitude towards growth (GDP)
I m afraid their "selfish" desire for profit at all cause will damn all of us
If the state and our intellectuals wont throw us a bone ... then we are really F@#Ked
Time to light the torch and sharpen the pitch forks!
Regards
Bengster
PS
About Emperor Guan Yu?
Really or not!!?? if so i better save some to buy a Bottle of Martell! and then after the dust has settled i will make sure to S@#T on his grave...
@ Matilah
And i quote
The more selfish people you help, the more they will help you
Is that not a contradiction?
Admit it la ... you do have a heart after all! Altruistic Tin Man
Bengster
I thought it was Ksitigarbha Boddhisatva, Di Zang Pu Sa, who made the vow?
FYI
kuan yin or kannon ....
Hey RB .. did you know
The Japanese Camera Canon was called Kwanon/kannon till they changed it for the US Market.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_%28company%29
Other Names Avalokiteśvara Boddhisatva or the Hearer of Cries
From Mahayana Tradition
According to Mahāyāna doctrine, Avalokiteśvara is the bodhisattva who has made a great vow to assist sentient beings in times of difficulty, and to postpone his own Buddhahood until he has assisted every being on Earth in achieving Nirvāṇa
Its actually more of a Taoist/Buddhist folk legend ... Hence the Chinese Saying/Legend attributed to her
If i don't go to hell who would?
我不路地狱,谁路地狱?
I actually have a Tattoo of a stone Bust Guan Yin on my back inscribe with the very same words!
Its very rock n roll if you think about it ....
Let me burn in hell with Hendrix, then spend eternity with Cherubs n Harps in heaven!
Regards
Bengster
Actually I thought anon 6:44 is right. Di Zang Wang Pu Sa's vow was to save all those in Hell. Guan Yin was to save all sentient beings. But since Bengster has the phrase on his back, Bengster must have done some homework on it.
I didn't know Canon had an earlier version. That must be a long time back.
Hi RB
The actual brand name for Canon was Guan Yin in Nippon
Check out their first logo way back in 1943 :)Hippy
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:1934kwanon.png
They change it to Canon for easy brand recognition
Actually the origins of Guan Yin is a real mess, why i m a devotee is because of the fables told to me from my Grand mom and Grand aunt ....
Besides who cares .... we need more of the Guan Yin Devotion and maybe this world wont be so F#@Ked up :)
Give me more compassion and less shell fish desires!
Thats why i m also against certain LAWS to regulate the state/people as its a morality problem ..
I m also totally against imposing morality on society at large
Do what ever turns you on ...just
"Never impose on others what you would not choose for yourself." – Confucius
as the golden rule
Regards
Bengster
The Golden Rule existed among all the major philosophical schools of Ancient China: Mohism, Taoism, and Confucianism.
Examples of the concept include:
"Zi Gong asked, saying, "Is there one word that may serve as a rule of practice for all one's life?" The Master said, "Is not RECIPROCITY such a word?" – Confucius[13][14]
"Never impose on others what you would not choose for yourself." – Confucius[15]
"If people regarded other people's families in the same way that they regard their own, who then would incite their own family to attack that of another? For one would do for others as one would do for oneself." – Mozi
"The sage has no interest of his own, but takes the interests of the people as his own. He is kind to the kind; he is also kind to the unkind: for Virtue is kind. He is faithful to the faithful; he is also faithful to the unfaithful: for Virtue is faithful." –Laozi[16]
"Regard your neighbor's gain as your own gain, and your neighbor's loss as your own loss." –Laozi
Being reading up on Mohism .... Chinese Philosophy ROCKS!
Daosim has been compared to modern Anarchism
Bengster
People don't respond to sage sayings. If they do, do we need baits?
@ Bengster
Ayn Rand chose to use the word "selfishness" in order to -- in her words "scare people".
Humans are emotional beings -- by default. In good communication, you have to be emotional to wake them up and draw attention to your ideas.
We can argue about the definitions of "selfishness" and "altruism" and get into all sorts of debates about contradiction etc.
At the end of the day, the actual meaning will be what you think it is, hopefully derived from many instances of "real world" experience and observation.
In my case, I have never met an UNselfish person. Every action we choose is, at some level, directed toward a goal which WE THINK will benefit US. Even suicide -- we think that the state of being dead is BETTER than the state of being alive...for whatever reason.
The State is here to stay. Sometimes you get OK people running things, sometimes you get dictators. The range of human characters is great, so in any large organisation you are likely to get all types of people you can imagine, and some you can't ;-)
How you deal with the state on an individual level comes down again to personal choice. People with state connections are probably going to get more opportunity than you -- that's not going to change...however you can always seek non-state ways to organise the route to your goals.
At the end of the day, the ultimate scarce resource is TIME OF ONE'S LIFE. That single resource is used in EVERY human endeavour, and therefore form that fact alone, it is very wise to be RATIONALLY selfish.
That is difference between the goddess of Mercy and us! She is still worshipped widely in Asian societies. How much wealth or privileges one has is only a dream transient things. Didn't those Emperors in China had everything? Power, unlimited wealth and endless supply of young beautiful maidens of the vast empire? No body worships those emporers but we still worship Goddess of Mercy. Therein lies the difference. Langgar!
