No one wants to talk about it
We cannot let higher income Sinkies to buy HDB flats. It will add to the demand and deprive lower income Sinkies from the chance of getting one, or they compete with the lower income and lowering their chances for a public flat. It sounds so clever, so logical. How many higher income Sinkies would want to buy a HDB if they could afford the million dollar private properties? No, they must be kept out to protect the lower income Sinkies. No they must be made to spend all their savings on that private property. Prudent, spending within their means and make them spend everything?
And every year they add on something like 20,000 new Sinkies, give them a pink IC and called them citizens. The truth is that they are foreigners who were added into the housing queue and it is okay. While the Sinkie singles and other Sinkies who need a flat would have to give way as the queue is getting longer, bigger demand, because of the so called new Sinkies. And no one want to mention this.
Did they add up to our housing problems? At 4 per family, each year the demand for public housing is 5,000 and over 10 years it is 50,000 units which could have gone to Sinkies. But no. These new Sinkies have priorities over original Sinkies, and original Sinkies can be cut off from the queue for all the good reasons.
The Sinkies are so blessed to have such a caring and considerate govt to think of their housing needs. And want them to live a better quality of life by spending all their money on private properties.

You are probably wrong here. To be a newly minted Singkie, you need first to be a PR for at least 2 years - so these new Singkies most likely already got a resale flat.
Just my 2 cents worth.
I have not tried to apply for a citizenship so not familiar with the process. The new citizens are likely to sell their resale flat for a profit and buy into something cheaper direct from HDB, even if they have to wait a while. And surely there will be many renting and just go and get a new one from HDB.
Mr Bean, I think xenophobia has clouded your feelings. It absolutely does not make sense for the PR-turned-citizen to sell his resale flat, rent while waiting out the 30 months to be eligible to apply for a new flat and then having to wait another 3 years to actually get the new flat for a 30-40k gain. The 30 month rent would probably blow away whatever gains they might have made on the sale, not to mention there is absolutely no certainty of getting the new BTO flat.
The new talents are very talented. Not to worry. They will know when to buy and sell or what to buy and sell.
And this is not xenophobic. I am talking about policies. No one is blaming the FTs. If I were a FT I will do the same. Ti kor liang, ti kor choh.
Like Gintai, your views are not closely related to reality in which the govt operates. The govt has the responsibility to steer the economy through treacherous waters, to create jobs for the masses, to create a favourable investment climate for the rich so that the rich will want to come and create jobs for sinkies, and policies to maintain peace and stability.
While you have the luxury of sitting in your armchair at home or office and sending articles to the blogosphere with no responsibility for its consequences.
Anon 1:48, well said. I can predict what Mr Bean's response is going to be. he is going to accuse you of being a member of the PAP's Internet Brigade.
Sinlies have a few choices other than joining politics. They can remain daft and be kicked around, just believe that everything is in good hands and all will end well.
Or they can speak out when they think that things are getting out of hands and hopefully, people listen and get too mad.
What we have seen recently is that god is helpless and mugging around and getting deeper into the shit hole.
The fatefuls and believers will just kneel down and pray and hope that god will be able to turn every thing around. But it is not likely.
Armchair critics and deaf frogs, it is a choice and Sinkies must choose what mode they want to take. It is not a right or wrong thing. It is about the future of this country and our children. Those who think this is the direction we should go need not abuse those who disagree with them and vice versa.
Basically do what you think is good in your judgement by doing a bit of thinking. And don't be daft and not thinking and leave others to think for you.
Koteks!
Should have bought an HDB when your income was low, and listened to Lee Kuan Yew: "Don't sell your HDB flat". i.e. go private, but keep the HDB.
Now the income high, they should not be allowed HDB. Sorry. You missed your chance, assholes!
NEVER
SELL
YOUR
HDB
....even if you migrate, no matter how high the price is -- which many people do so that they can "upgrade" to private property.
I know people who have held their HDB since their newly-wed days back in the 1970's and own 5 or 6 private properties in Singapore AND overseas.
One more time:
Never sell your HDB!
The govt's view and policies are definitely not the same as many Sinkies and that is why they are speaking up. But the govt's views are similar to many other Sinkies who will support and vote for them.
Come the next election it will be a test of how many agree with the govt and how many do not.
Sinkies should not not blame the foreigners.
Sinkies should blame ourselves instead for being too scared to vote out the Pro Alien Party and uniting behind a new political party and leader.
Those who support the govt policies should just say so. No need to be ashamed of. There is nothing wrong about taking a position.
The inflow of more migrants is like the country having morphine jabs. The more you jab the more you need to jab.
How many of you believe that this is the right thing to do and should support the govt's policy on this?
