Way to cleaner, safer future

An interesting front page article in mypaper today by M D Nalapat, a professor of geopolitics, Manipal University, India. This is the first time someone pointedly argued that all the craps about regime change in the Middle East and the world is about oil. Saddam Hussein was murdered by the Americans because of oil. Gaddafi is next in line, also because of oil. And the Americans are in every corner of the world guarding their oil interest and scheming for regime change to secure oil for its huge appetite. Nalapat said, ‘Not many people know that the US Dept of Defence consumes close to 500,000 barrels of oil a day.’ Shit, and govt’s of the world are telling their citizens to save on using plastic bags. And Greenpeace is attacking everyone across the world for destroying the environment. Mind you, the 500,000 barrels of oil a day is only for the Dept of Defence. What about the other uses? The wasteful consumption of petrol by private individuals in their energy guzzlers, 6 to 7 litre cars, jetting down the freeways and the big trucks, could consume another big chunk of the world’s little precious oil that is left. Nalapat went on to claim that nuclear energy is safe and the way to go. Another controversial statement. For big countries with big space to host the nuclear plants and the ability to abandon site in case of a nuclear accident, and the population can be moved away, maybe still a viable option. Please don’t encourage those people living in a small piece of rock to have one. Abandoning the nuclear plant is abandoning the whole piece of rock for good. No option, no way out. Nice food for thought.

Since You mentioned mypaper, me likes to say that since last week it has been delivered to my house. There is no need to queue to get one and me was wondering why the Publisher is soooo kind.

Today, me saw and read about the new PAP Candidates for the Coming Election. They don't attract me much BUT when reading that Sylvia Lim and Kenneth Jeyaretnam saying that they are not ready to form the Government, it is damn sad.

The Alternatives Political Parties and their Leaders are prepared to play FIDDLE-FADDLE SECOND RATERS even for the LONG RUN!!!!

ME SAYS AND SINCERELY HOPES THAT VOTERS VOTE IN ALL THESE ALTERNATIVE NINCOMPOOPS AND MAKE SURE THAT THEY ARE NOT VOTED IN TO PRAY, PLAY AND SEEK FUN IN PARLIAMENT. What and why the hell are they it politics??? To play play?

Let us put all these PARLIAMENT FUN SEEKERS INTO PARLIAMENT AND SEE HOW THEY WANT TO PLAY IN IT. It's time for the people to test the ALTERNATIVE POLITICIANS FOR THEIR CONVICTIONS AND PERFORMANCES. After that it could be time for us to challenge them for their mettles.

My apology.

"why the hell are they 'it' politics???"
It should read 'why the hell are they in politics'.

I was excited to see the name of the author. MD Nalapat is a name I hear from Childhood as he was the chief editor for Mathrubhumi News paper-The most popular paper in the literate state of India; Kerala. His mom was one of the greatest writers in India and grandmom was a poetess. The article was fearless and of course he dared to tell the hard facts. When you see the West's (Read it as US) interest in Middle East politics and eagerness to befriend India, the intentions are clear. But its surprising that people conveniently choose to ignore it. The agenda is "maintain US dominance even after 2030" Hope the stupid Indian politicians will wake up and strengthen the diplomatic ties with China. Its high time guys!!

India and China must work together and not be exploited by the imperialists. It is so easy to drive a wedge between the two and raise tension.

Historically, India and China did not have any big wars. The 1962 border war was a legacy of the British, by happily redrawing the boundaries of India and China, and the rest of the colonial empire.

India and China can continue to coexist peacefully and their areas of influence are predestined by the Himalayan range. The McMahon line can be settled peacefully with some give and take.

Asian countries should wake up and avoid becoming pawns of the West. The poor Arabs and African countries are still in the shit hole and will be there for a long time if they do not wake up.

Regrettably, unlike others, this Indian political pundit is all in favour of an India aligned to US and EU to counter the Sinic civilisation which he claimed is a threat to the primacy of the West rather than radical Islam.

The Indian academic is simply making a furtive argument for "more government control".

Ironically "more govt control" is how all these problems got started in the first place.

The foundation of America's entry into the arena of domestic and global politics is AmericanExceptionalism. Again, the irony -- one would think that is a "neo-con" idea. It isn't. It was coined by the American Communist Party. It is however the GUIDING LIGHT of American politics -- Democrat and Republican.

If you look closely at the compact of American Exceptionalism, you will find that the govt-the-pap-is-the-govt have spun their own version of "Singapore Exceptionalism" -- where the PAP have re-written the book on politics, civil rights, the rule of law, and individual liberty.

The USA are also eying Chavez of Venezuela, trying to remove him, all because of oil too. Iran is another. All that shit about nuclear ambitions are just excuses, nothing more.

And India is an easy joker to con. Just promise them great power status and they will dance on the edge of a blade. They will be intoxicated by the thought of being a great power standing beside the great white god in Washington.

Global oil production and markets are dominated by nationalised companies and cartels. There are very few truly "private" players out there.

This means the oil (and energy) markets are highly influenced and directly controlled by political powers -- and those powers shift and change, alliances are formed, as are opposing groups (like cartels) -- depending on who benefits what and from whom.

Once you replace "freedom" with "power" in any market, you eventually get VIOLENCE. Every large oil company in the world is in "partnership" with a government -- and every government has a military which it can use at anytime, for any reason.

If you don't have private property rights in a market, and the law of contract administered by a Rule Of Law (i.e. "blind" and equal to all -- as opposed to the rule by men which is selective), then it is "anything goes".

Add to the problem of energy scarcity -- the "Green Movement". They don't like nuclear, they don't like fossil fuels. They lobby govts to impose laws restricting the use of both...thereby driving up prices artificially and causing more strife.

No free market == eventual violence, and continuing violence...because if peaceful trade is impossible the only option is FORCE.

Count on it.

P.S.

BTW, if any one forgets, or doesn't know: Gadaffi came into power on the back of nationalised oil. He based his revolution (coup d'etat) on the premise that the monarchy was not "passing on the benefits" of oil production and export to the people.

And so he took it over.

I'm not an apologist for the invasion of Libya. The whole mess is an extension of the idea that peaceful cooperation is IMPOSSIBLE if you don't have true private enterprise, simply because politics -- local and global -- have a distinct violent streak built into it, which eventually manifests itself and continue to manifest itself every time various armed groups oppose each other.

If there is no way to LIMIT GOVERNMENT POWER, then government power will set its own limits...and we all know what that means.

When there is power, there is corruption -- in the sense that people who hold power can be bought and sold, and so-called "laws" passed to benefit certain groups at the expense of others

When buying and selling are controlled by legislation, the first things to be bought and sold are legislators. - P.J. O'Rourke

I just filled up the car yesterday. Petrol price: AUD 1.42 per litre -- approx 20% increase in the last few weeks...and more to come, no doubt, thanks to geo-politics!

That's cheap. We are paying more than S$2 per litre. Need to fill my tank again. It must have gone up again.

Not if you have a 5 litre V8, drive 30-40,000km a year and run more than one vehicle per household.

You can survive quite well without a car in S'pore. In Oz no car is like having your legs cut off.

Matilah;

thank You very much for dedicating an article to educate and enlighten me on human greeds.

How or why said article requires a warning for access is beyond me, just a side track.

Though me wont go into science/evolution and religion to further decipher human greeds, me must say to a large extend me does agree with your 'definition' and causes/reasons for greeds to be 'seemingly' an innate nature of man(kind). And since it is an intrinsic nature, fellow beings must accept and or learn to accept? Suffice to say that here, You and me might have a huge difference in comprehension and dissertation.

Me cannot apologies for the difference that exist between us as me defines greed as a SPIRITUAL WEAKNESS and not something scientific, evolutionary and or religious. Me does have to disclose that me has a very personal interpretation of the word 'spiritual-spiritualism' which is very different. Me does not link spiritual and spiritualism to any supernatural element.

Lastly, may i say the word 'greed' and its' meanings, interpretations and implications are indeed very debatable. Albeit the fact that me have firm idea of it, me am always interested in others understandings of it.

You have been kind and Your understandings with regard to the Local socio-political situations and the Leadership have always being very impressive. It is great that You're around.

'Me cannot apologies'

my apology for the above mistake.

It should read 'me cannot offer apology' or 'me cannot apologize'.
