A City of Mobs

From loan shark country we have morphed into a City of MOBS. The gangland killing in Downtown East has hardly been forgotten and a series of gangland attacks with parang wielding youths started again. This time they were more brazen, attacking one group after another and shouting their gang names. This is like the Hongkong movies, Living Dangerously, and in grand style. What law? To these youths, there is no law. There are the law. The way they went about attacking people in big groups is the strongest defiance they are showing to the law. Has the law been caught sleeping again? Have they allowed the seed to grow too far and too late to nip it in the bud? I think the problem is now quite big and serious. Perhaps we have been too nice and too kind to wayward youths. The organisations must be big and numerous. But are these wayward youths? One corner will say YES. And they will plead to leave them alone as they are simply misguided, lack of parental guidance, they will be good if given time to change their behaviour. So let them be. They were once little angels that parents hugged in kindergartens. They can't be monsters or killers! I am feeling very disgusted with the way this little island paradise is turning into.

I slapped myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming when I got hold of the news that these scumbags are at it again.

Make no mistake about it. If we do not mount an island wide blitz immediately to flush these anarchists out and lock them up under the ISA, this island is done for and headed for the dumps.

Now, I am beginning to think that all those years that we have enjoyed peace and tranquility from this scourge were merely a remission from the cancer of secret societies. We are now in relapse.

The secret societies branch of the CID should now be beefed up and relive the glory days when they were feared by these thugs. They should make themselves as omnipresent and as feared and efficient as the CNB.

These thugs may be young and dangerous now. If we let them be, they could very well be a law unto themselves.

Ha, we couldn't stop the influx of foreign trash into Singapore.

Now, I think those trash will think thrice before coming here because you never know. You may just die on the streets if you are in the wrong place, at the wrong time coming face to face with these 369s.

And we thought Hong Kong, Malaysia was dangerous? Frankly, I feel much safer working on the streets of Mongkok, Hong Kong than I do in Bukit Panjang.

Fuck me, we are truly in deep shit.

It is time for the SPF to shed its polite and nice guy image and get tough with criminals.

Tragic, but not such a big deal. Nothing the cops can't deal with.

Young men in groups tend to get aggro, and occasionally they behave like all groups do: stupid, violent and deadly.

On the matter of th cops: if they weren't being used to bust political oppositions, and other waste-of-resources activities, maybe they'd be able to focus more on gangs. The fact that the cops were caught out in terms of "intel" supports my case.

Police departments monitor gang activity. Apparently Singapore's finest haven't been that vigilant.

Also you have the law minister using his glib lawyer-tongue (legal-lingus) to convince the world that a non-free press is morally right and beneficial.

Singapore has some of the world's best laws to deal with violent crime - armed robbery, rape, assault, murder. And the rule of law has always prevailed making Singapore about as safe as you'd find anywhere in the world.

However the legal and justice systems have been usurped by political powers for political ends. Justice and the rule of law are CORRUPTED.

In countries where the ruling elite is authoritarian or totalitarian, you'll find the police and the courts serving the political machine. You'll also find a trend toward more gang violence and violent crime.

Instead of getting mad at these kids, it is time to get mad at the state -- not just the police, but the courts and the politicians as well.

The separation of state powers --legislative, executive, judiciary -- must be re-established. The cops can't be busting political oppositions and dissenters and the courts have to keep their snouts out of free speech and political issues and concentrate on upholding the rule of law.

The law minister might consider toning down on his legal lingus on the world stage and increase his cunnilingus on his mistress.

The breaking down of law and order is something that all Singaporeans must be concerned and be very angry. This is our home, not a hotel where anything goes.

Many people will be hurt, the victims and their families, the thugs and their families.

You talk about "wayward youth" and how they disregard the law.

However if you are an "elite kid" you can disregard the law and if caught you'd actually get a pass. Of course you need to have your mummy and/ or daddy front up the several hundred thousand dollars to the lawyer with the "connections" and the legal-lingual skills -- the best of these "rock star" lawyers require an extortion of around $100k just to hear your woes.

I am still against the criminalization of drugs. But the above case illustrates the point further: if you are poor and a "nobody" you're screwed. If you are elite, you get a pass. One law for everyone else, no law for the elite.

Who are the real "anarchists"? I would contend that they are the ones who write and purportedly "uphold" the law.

redbean,

If you step out of your sua-ku attitude for a moment, you will find that in the world's finest hotels, security is #1 priority. You are far safer in a well-run hotel than you are on the street.

If you venture to the worlds most dangerous cities, your security is better managed if you stayed at the Hilton, Sheraton, Four Seasons etc than if you took your chances on the street.

The private market is far more effective at producing security because of their own self-interest profit motive.

That being said, hotel management had better lift their fucking game, or they will lose my albeit small, but valuable patronage.

How did we end up like this?

I think it all started when both parents have to work and the child or children ended up mixing with odd balls and soon became misguided. It is really true that the triad menace is starting to rear its ugly head since a couple of years back, and triad members are getting more daring and brazen.

The problem will get worse if those in their early childhood are now left to the care of maids, without parental control. It takes a decade or more to realise the consequences and this is only the beginning.

If they do not nip the problem in the bud, we will even see the formation of foreign triad enclaves battling for territorial control.

Then we can forget about how safe our country is and may even have to swallow our words commenting on the crime situation up North.

You guys are over reacting lah.

Sure a bunch of Machete influenced Asian barbarians on a rampage is unsettling in one of the world's safest cities, but it is an out-of the-blue statistic.

Singapore is still one of the safest places to be. These "clashes" are usually contained to certain "trouble spots".

I used to frequent the "old" Newton circus. every once in awhile, there'd be a fight because young men are usually quick to temper. One time I arrived at Newton "after the fact" and it was like Freddy Kruger had been there: blood everywhere.

So what? Tragic as it is, Singapore is still on the whole SAFE. Women don't walk alone after dark, but in Singapore it is common to see single women going about their business in safety.

I'm the one supposed to be "hantaming" Singapore. However I must defend my beloved hotel: time for management to lift their game, but this is an isolated incident.

It is made more "emotionally scary" because of the "mob factor" -- big group violence, irrationality and gang (group vs group) warfare.

Pay attention to that dynamic of gang vs gang violence: that is how Singapore politics will become if pure demoCrazy is ever allowed to evolve.

Lucky for us non-fans of demoCrazy, the ISA is still intact.

There is no such things as a "democratic hotel".

Did some netizens said that 369 scared of 999 ?

That must be a dumb claim, 999 must have retired or inactive already if not extinct like dead volcano.

Go to any coffee shop or places of leisures, do we see 999 ?

Wally Buffet said...

Soon, we may have to call 369 instead of 999 to report gang clashes and triad crimes.

Those schmucks at 369 must now be celebrating their haughty status and laughing all the way to hell.

Hmmmm.........369, I must go and buy 4D. Anyone got a good suggestion for the last digit? If win, we go and splurge at Ritz Carlton courtesy of......who else but 369!

Seriously, hope our city's finest are drawing up their battle plans now.

Mobilize all available manpower and launch an immediate blitz on known gangster hideouts. Insert undercover moles. Eat humble pie and get the help of "retired" godfathers for intel and advice. Haul in all with gangland tattoos. Have them finger printed and DNA sampled. Built another complex for ISA triad detentions. Forget about the "second chance" and "yellow ribbon" mumbo jumbo. This is war.

Matilah, you wouldn't call Sinkapoore a safe place and this a "once off" incident if you were in the wrong place, at the wrong time and the machete is the last thing you'll see before the blinding flash of death.

That's true, but my personal experience is only one data point which statistically could be insignificant in the greater scheme of things.

Of course if an individual survived the chop of the parang, he -- being the pattern-seeking, agent-causation detecting APE he is, would be screaming like a scared monkey for his government's rule of law to "rectify the outrageous situation".

We immediately and automatically assume that anything which happens to us is happening all over the place in a pervasive manner. It could be, but using personal experience is highly unreliable for many reasons but mainly because it is only one data point

Can't beat the science bro!

I hope they will swing into action and put them all behind bars immediately. The longer they allow them time to feel good, the more deadly they will become.

I am always for strong laws against crime, especially violent crimes. The few women who were attacked and one dead could be an isolated incident of a psychopath.

Here we are seeing the rebirth of triads and gangs who think violence is the norm.

And Wally, your last number can be 7 for 7 victims.

Me too. I have a zero tolerance for violent crime.

Which is why I favour gun ownership for objectively-proven responsible adult citizens.

You fuckers better pray and give thanks to the god Lee Kuan Yew: S'pore's violent crime is amongst the lowest in the world.

Where I live in motherfucking Perff... there's assault everyday -- usually by aboriginals. In the last year I've been accosted twice -- both times by abos -- both time by groups. They are lucky to still be alive (I think), because I would have killed or seriously injured all of them. ;-)

It could be an out-of-the-blue statistical anomaly, but that doesn't mean "be complacent".

In other words: Security and safety depend on constant vigilance.

To wally:

No matter what the govt does, they will never be able to eradicate gangs so that they "disappear like a puff of smoke".

Ape-humans are social creatures, and especially young apes -- "identity" is important to them, so they form gangs and the strongest (BAMFs*) among them become the alphas (leaders). To get "street cred" they must have "territory" or something going on.

When there is youth, there are groups. Most of the groups are "fun and laughter" but occasionally you get the dark side of human nature manifesting itself: the will to power. Can't change human nature: there'll always be some murder, theft, rape and assault. Best you can do is protect yourself and go after those who commit acts of violence.

Sure, I agree, round up these psychos and wallop them -- sending a message is important as well as protecting the "Singapore Brand" name internationally, as a "safe" place to visit and live.

If S'pore's reputation is sullied, that might turn off the multitudes who have plans on emigrating.

Now, I certainly wouldn't want that to happen. All of the sudden if the foreigner disappear, I have to rent to cheap-skate locals? No fucking way!!

Chua Chin Leng蔡镇龍 aka redbean said...

In some areas I would like less govt, esp in politics and handling political opponents. In crimes, I would want more govt and tough measures. This is good for the innocent and law abiding citizens.

Singapore is a very small place. It is very easy to clean up gangs, not necessary crimes. Some crimes there always will be. As for organised gangs, it is so easy. Just put in the resources and resolve and this is one place you can wipe them clean.

No joke and no need super talents talking cock.

Anonymous said...

Easy to clean up gangs? Once they take root, it will take years. Go back to the fifties and you can judge for yourself. We had to depend on the Gurkhas to do the job.

I can't be sure, but the way our crime busters are tackling the loan shark's problem gives me the doubts about whether it will be that easy to wipe out gangs.

We can boast and shout about having first world crime busters, but theory and actions are two different things. Maybe 369 could do a better job than 999.

Anonymous said...

And by the way, for arresting people like Mas Selamat, I think third world crime busters have done a better job than our first world crime busters.

It is a fact, proven beyond any doubt. Twice!

Chua Chin Leng蔡镇龍 aka redbean said...

You got a point there. Should let the 369 to clean up the other gangs first before rounding them up. Save a lot of trouble and manpower.

Good suggestion.

Ⓜatilah $ingapura⚠️ said...

It took a bigger gangster to clean up the gangs.

The Brits couldn't do it. Neither could Lim Yew Hock nor David Marshall. Both hopeless.

However when the young upstart Hakka lawyer Lee Kuan Yew came on the scene, one of the first things he did was to clean up the gang activity -- at least the violence part.

I was a kid back then, but I remember well -- saw my share of fights and dead bodies with horrific wounds. It was the days of the bearing scrapers, acid bulbs, parangs, choppers...and...anyone remember the Zero-Eight gang?

"Hong kan, you no' satisfy izzit? Nabay chee bai! Throw number some more!!" Altercation ensues. Kopi tiam owner calls the cops.

And remember those hard-core fuckers from Malaysia? The real bad asses -- mostly wielding firearms.

Wally:

I'm guessing, but I think the cop was fucking with you. Even the most dumb Aussie knows where S'pore is, and who Lee Kuan Yew is as he's insulted the entire country on national TV on more than one occasion. also, Singaporeans get busted frequently for drug trafficking.

The cop was trying to egg you - to upset your frame -- "shake the tree, see what falls out". And yeah, I don't know when you were "busted" but back in the day height requirements used to be 5'11" for entry into the police force, which means the fuckers look mean. And Aussie cops make sure you know they're THE authority, and won't hesitate to Taser, shoot or detain you. They have a strong union who'll back them up if they have to use force on the job. Complaints of "police brutality" don't go very far because the union hires good lawyers (Queen's Counsel if necessary) to defend any cop accused of "excessive force". Personally, I don't like them -- arrogant bastards, big-time wankers. You experienced that for yourself: you passed him, therefore you were speeding.

These days they're even more menacing: they have the new leg strapped quick draw holsters (ala special forces), so they wear their 9mm Glocks low, not on the waist.

Whenever I had to deal with the SPF, the experience was definitely more "comfortable".

Ⓜatilah $ingapura⚠️ said...

Wally,

There is a difference between "torture", and "enforcing criminal justice".

I don't have any qualms about violent thugs and terrorists getting their comeuppance. And all cops in the course of exercising their office are entitled to the legal use of force (violence). I go one further: my position is that ordinary citizens who prove themselves to be responsible and psychologically fit should have the right to own and carry non full-auto firearms, and to use the weapons to defend themselves, their family and private property if confronted by violent assailants.

It is difficult to administer true criminal justice when there is torture involved. If torture is proved, the courts throw out the case and the criminal walks free.

Sure, there might be special cases where torture could be effective, but not when the plan is to take the case to a court of law. Also the agency involved in torture soon loses its "credibility" in legal circles.

BTW my mistake on the service weapon of the WA Police. It is the Glock 22 - .40 calibre Smith & Wesson ammo, 15 round clip. Just as a comparison, S'pore anti-terrorist special forces are issued Glock 17's. .40 S&W ammo has massive "stopping power" -- military grade stuff.

Wally Buffet said...

Matilah,

Which Glock is more powerful? The 17 or the 22? Probably the one used by the WA police. With this Glock, also favoured by Charles Bronson in "Death Wish" I think, the WA police can even bring down a heavy fucking Kangaroo.

Now, I am thinking. We just rounded up some of the perps in the two gang incidents. Instead of spending hard earned tax payers' money hanging them, feeding them ad infinitum or "rehabilitating" them, maybe we can form an elite special forces squad of these dimwits within the SAF. When there is an outbreak of conflict, this squad of "hand picked" elites would be the one that we send to infiltrate and sabotage enemy military installations. Sort of like a suicide squad. Now, this is not something new. It has been the theme in countless war movies but since they love violence so much and are so gung ho with real or false bravado, it's worth a try. Freedom for Service to the country. Now that's a good quid pro quo.

Ⓜatilah $ingapura⚠️ said...

It depends on the ammo used. The 9X19 parabellum round has been used since WW1. The .40 S &W was designed from scratch in the 1990's for the FBI. .40 is approx 10mm which is larger. .40 S & W is nasty -- does more tissue damage and has more penetrating power.

But the effectiveness depends on the shooter, the shooter's hand and experience to become "one with the weapon".

I hear pistol shooting is gaining popularity in S'pore. You should definitely try it. It is good for your penis :-)

Here in Perth we can merrily blast away at shooting ranges. One near my place has .44 Magnum desert eagle (as featured in the later Dirty Harry movies) and .40 S&W Glocks as well as the 9mm Glock 17's. It is a great way to relieve stress -- just go there, pay money and blast away!

Sorry, they don't allow "double tapping" or any rapid fire. Immediate expulsion if you are caught. Which means you cannot practice your NAVY SEAL/ assassin style execution shooting. :-(

Way back in the 60's when Singapore was defending itself against the madman militant Indonesian commie Soekarno -- aka "Confrontasi", the brave defenders of S'pore were ex-gangsters and thugs.

In fact, the military has always been a "legal" alternative for those with a violent streak, and we need those people who love to fight to the death, to defend us.

Wally Buffet said...

"I hear pistol shooting is gaining popularity in S'pore. You should definitely try it. It is good for your penis :-)"

It is only good for "sportsmen" aiming for a gold in some stupid games.

I had a go at pistol shooting in, of all places, Shanghai. My "instructor" was/is a PLA. There, the PLA is involved in a lot of businesses and shooting range theme parks is one of them.

What the Fock, you're right, my sagging little rocket nearly got a lift off after I hit the bull's eye three shots in a row.

Now, I am beginning to understand slowly but gradually, why those dumb focks ran riot.

Sex and violence. Planet Ape's most powerful driving forces. Same hormones are involved: testosterone and adrenaline from 2 of the most essential organs for fun and perpetuation of the species: the testes and the adrenal glands.

Which is why we feel horny after watching UFC or blasting away at the range.

When I was training with my ex-boxer ex-friend, I used to be horny all the time -- I mean more than normal by several degrees of magnitude. Must "get off" at least twice a day, not bad for a balding apek in his "heart-attack" years. Buay tahan -- lan chiau hormat senjata all day long. Then go pistol shooting -- lagi worse.

Nevermind. Got benefits: Domestic situation very good -- woman smiling, blissfully, which means no more nagging :-)

So the story of our species: Male ape increases energy by acting out his violent side (hopefully in "safe" ways). This increases "kotek power" -- add Tongkat Ali for greater effect -- keep it "natural" bro'!

Male ape bangs female ape until female ape eyes are in her forehead.

Thus the species survives and prevails.
