Gopalan Nair can be arrested
Gopalan Nair wrote an article yesterday claiming that LKY sufferred a massive heart attack and was warded in SGH. He also posted about demonstrations which gave the impression of civil unrest in the island. He has admitted today that it was a hoax created by him.
Gopalan should not play with such rumours as it can get many people killed. Just imagine if his article comes out this morning and the stock market reacted negatively to it with fearful investors unloading and causing many to lose their little fortunes in the market?
It is utterly irresponsibile for Gopalan to post such vicious rumours in the net. It only destroy the credibility of himself and other bloggers.
I hope no bloggers will think this is funny and exciting and follow what he did. Be responsible and post rationally. Do not stoop to spreading vicious rumours.

He clowns from the safety of the States. Do you really think that we take him seriously? We are not "daft"
But his gibberish posts makes a good titillating read when I bring my laptop into the toilet to do my daily bombing runs on the Japs below.
Such bloggers will eventually lose their credibility...
Hi redbean,
Agree with you. I have the same thinking.
Gopalan just derailed the Opposition Cause - but then, that's what he's good at
Those repost his nonsense are equally guilty.
So what? Only fools believe anything on the net without checking the facts.
Well done Gopalan. If you're going to tell a lie, tell a big one and make people shit.
He could have his joke in April, however the guy seems like he's running out of time.
Bloody hell, I was the first one to take Gopalan to task and the main media did not even mention about it.
Until up to yeasterday one media organisation printed it as "truth"
http://www.apakistannews.com/lee-kuan-yew-heart-attack-167439
but I just checked and they've removed the article except for the reference to it.

Why? What wrong has Gopalan done? Has he done a wrong to you specifically?
Have you been brainwashed? Nair's "stunt" revealed a few hard-to-stomach truths: people have immortalised this obviously mortal human being. LKY, like every one of us will die one day. For god's sake he is 87.
Nair also shows us the importance of the 1st Amendment to the US Constitution -- the free speech amendment. Free speech applies in a framework of "no contract". That means you are free to say whatever you want as long as there is no implicit or explicit contract.
As far as "telling the truth" goes -- that only applies if you have a contract. You can lie your ass off, play jokes and hoaxes (all based on untruths or exaggerations) -- it is up to the recipient of your claims to evaluate for themselves if what you say is true or not.
IMO Gopalan Nair did a nice one. He showed up the gullibility of many people, and also caused the hate to surface of those too emotional to see the wood for the trees. Yes, he delighted the majority of Lau Lee’s enemies who can’t wait for the old tin pot dictator to die.
As a public figure with the power to make decisions which profoundly influence and affect millions of lives, LKY does not have the luxury of “protection from opinion, scorn or derision”. To argue otherwise is favouring Orwellian ideas. A person with that much power is not an ordinary person in the same sense as most of us here who don’t have near-absolute power and therefore cannot affect the lives of millions.
A bad joke. Didn't he know that the man is immortal?
anon @216 (I'm messing with you:) )
If Lee Kuan Yew is immortal how come he has Ghurka's guarding him? In fact, why should he need guards at all? He can't die! And don't you think that if he is immortal he also has super human powers ;)
Anyway, here's my challenge: If LKY is immortal in the full objectively realistic sense (can pass the scrutiny of The Scientific Method ), I will chop off my huge genitals at noon at Raffle Place and allow anyone to video the event for perpetual exhibition on sites like youtube
Aren't you guys missing the wood for the trees?
This moron's blog is so full of diatribe that no one who is sane, well informed, reflective etc. would have taken his word even with a ton of salt. He and lots of others gave himself too much credit.
If anything like what he has written were to come to pass, he definitely will not be the first to come to know about it.
Now he is writing that the gentleman in question has lost his dentures while on a current trip to London!
Like I said before, read his blog when you are doing your daily ablutions. You'll feel better.
Someone provided jokes that many have no gut to play. He gave the inspiration for this thread which titillates some while some find it funny.
It is quite enjoyable.
Agreed.
But when what he says is the same old rehash of everything he has said, I think anyone who defends his right to say what he said is well, nothing worth saying.
WTF, I'm writing like he does......
Damn.
Thousand pardons.
Matilah Singapura, GN is spreading misinformation, a hoax. Freedom of speech protects people's rights to voice their views, not their abuse of freedom.
Salary @1037
It appears to me that you don't have an idea what freedom of speech is, or the idea of "contract" or in this case no contract which does not place any obligation on the speaker.
Also, who is to judge objectively if a perso like Gopalan is (in your words) "abusing" his freedom. If you check with the US Bill OF Rights, and Mr Nair IS a US citizen, it would be clear to you (ad anyone else) that he is not breaking the law, violating other peoples' rights or doing anything against what the Bill Of Rights states.
In fact, he is very well within his rights, and rightfully so, protected by law. (And he knows it)
Freedom to speak or write does not allow one to spread malicious rumour. Ok, maybe he can, just like freedom to do anything one likes. But there are laws against spreading malicious rumours, or freedom to hit another person.
I am sure there are enough laws here to nail him in court.
Talking about dentures falling off may be an unpleasant joke but quite acceptable.
Matilah Singapura, if you think you are not able to make the judgment, I can understand.
Don't worry, there is enough people with sound mind to make that reasonably objective judgment.
If you want to defend to the death GN's right to make hoax, so be it. That is your freedom of speech and I respect it.
Salary seems to be a bit more reasonable than redbean. (Why am I not surprised?)
> Freedom to speak or write does not allow one to spread malicious rumour.
Says who? Look at the Bill Of Rights. The man is a US citizen. Sure local fuck-style Singapore so-called "justice" can slam him in jail, but then fuck-style suka-suka Singapore judicial system can make criminals out of anyone, anytine for any reason They just "make it up". Suka suka.
Anyway who is to judge what is a malicious rumour and what is a joke? You? Me? The courts? Which courts? Answer: no one can make an objective call on this.
To even try is pretending to be able to look in the heart and mind of the fella. Unless you are some kind of supreme being, this is impossible for mere mortals.
Arguments based on "selfishness", "greed" "lust" and other emotions are very, very weak arguments because the commit the logical fallacy of "Appeal to emotion" (and usually a few other logical fallacies like "ad hominem", "strawman" and "impungning motives")
Matilah_Singapura, remember the "balloon boy" hoax? Do you know his parents were charged and sentenced in court?
You think freedom of speech allows people to make bomb hoax?
It depends what you mean by "bomb hoax". If you call the police then that would get you into trouble. If you are joking with friends or post in a blog... that's different.
In the first case you have to take specific action to approach the police. By posting in a blog no body is "obliged" to read it. In the 1st case there is an implied "contract" in the 2nd case there is no such contract.
P.S. I don't know enough about "balloon boy" to comment. Ask a lawyer (preferably not a S'pore one)
