Low Thia Khiang is furious
Finally he spoke out after months of silence. He was literally left out in the cold in the current Lift Upgrading Programme. He was expected to put in his thumb print while Eric Low front up in announcing the LUP for Hougang. The grassroot adviser, not the elected MP, took on the leadership role to run the constituency. Oops, let me correct this. The grassroot adviser took on the role to announce the Lift Upgrading Programme. What other important roles he was involved, like deciding which precinct or flats that are deserving, how much etc, I am not sure. The MP, the representative elected by the people to look after their affairs and the estate has been sidelined.
Here we have an MP, not part of the ruling govt, but a representative in Parliament, and an adviser, not part of the govt, but an appointee of a ruling party, both contesting to serve the residents.
Who should do the job? Who has been chosen by the people to do the job? The answer seems simple enough. But is that so?
HDB has given all its right and good reasons why the grassroot leader should do the job. Period. Whose money is involved in the LUP, people's money, govt money, or party money?
Now, what has Chiam See Tong got to say on this? He is also affected, I think. Would he write another letter to the ST forum like Low Thia Khiang?

Erection coming leh. The two PAP stooges standing among the voters in Hougang and Potong Pasir must be elevated to that of Santa Claus.
But rest assured, Hougang and Potong Pasir voters will not fall for such gimmicks. They are wiser and less cowardly and more discerning than the other 66.66%.
Potong Pasir and Hougang will fall to the PAP if Santa brings bigger gifts. Singaporeans are suckers for these gimmicks. The greed of Singaporeans are well known throughout the region if not the whole world. So, when the gifts or the threats get bigger the residents of these 2 place will join the 66.66%. No doubt about that.
I salute the voters in Hougang and Potong Pasir for having backbones and refused time and again to be bought over with gifts and or threats.
Voters in Potong Pasir and Hougang deserve our respects and emulations.

This incident clearly shows that the PAPa leadership and their cronies, after being in power for too long, are not able to draw a line between party and government. They have been taking for granted that PAPa is Govt, and Govt is PAPa. That is the crust of the problem which they have made for themselves. And this will be the fundamental cause for the eventual downfall of the PAP and their cronies.
From the way these PAPa millionaire $$$-inspired, shameless self-praised crowns are trying to rationalise away the problem, by showing statistics and more statistics from their "pockets", to suit their purpose, obviously demonstrated to us that they are not in tune with the commoners on the ground.
Have you heard of the idiom: "Lies, damned lies and statistics", attributed to the 19th Century British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli?
Mark Twain popularised it in his autobiography that there are 'Lies, damned lies, and statistics'; and then there are averages. A man is standing with one foot in a bucket of ice water, the other foot in a bucket of boiling water. On average, he'll feel pretty good, lukewarm if you will. But, that's just not how it works.
There are reports that aerosol sprays kill the ozone and sugar substitutes cause cancer. With all of the studies I've heard over the past few years, I am pretty sure that living causes death. Cause and effect. Stuff happens.
Some people use statistics like a drunk uses a lamp post - for support rather than for illumination.
all the good reasons have been given for grassroot leaders to head the LUP. low and chiam should set up grassroot organisations in constituencies that they have lost. then maybe they can ask for their grassroot leaders to head the LUPs in those constituencies.
the precedent has been set.
The Oppositions must not follow the Precedent.
The suggestion is like asking the son to get a bigger loot than the father who have set a bad example.

Chiam was not even allowed to grow a plant outside his party headquarters in Potong Pasir, not to say setting up a grassroot organisation.
You must be joking. Yes you are joking.
