We have this great bull story in the media again
We are short of talents. Companies cannot find enough of accountants and finance professionals. And recently we even bragged so loudly that we are recruiting doctors and medical professionals in big numbers from all over the world.
My take is that either our tertiary institutions were are sleeping and not producing enough qualified candidates to feed the needs of the economy, or that our graduates were of no talents and not good enough for the industry. So either we don't have the head counts or plenty of useless, half baked and unemployable graduates.
So, the lack of local talent must be true. All the statistics and surveys say so. What are we going to do about it? Apply the instant tree formula and go and recruit from all over the world, including graduates from third world and universities ranked lower than our esteemed local universities.
Why did I get this feeling that something is not right? How could world class universities not producing graduates that are considered as talents and graduates from less than world class universities are grabbed like hot properties, great talents? If our universities are producing non talents, then we might as well close them down and save the money. And forget about the 4th university.

Redbean Sir;
if an experienced Stanford Educated researcher has to drive taxi as an occupation, what can local graduates expect ?
Felt that many young Singaporeans are wasting much of their youth and time studying and doing National Service.

Oh forgotten to add that it is not just a bull story, it is stories that are made by cocky self-claimed talents.

I too smell a rat.
Once upon a time we were told that there were too many lawyers around and that it makes us Singaporeans too litigious. Now, we see many foreign talents attached to foreign law firms taking root and it seems more would be welcomed.
Go to any public hospitals and you will see that local doctors are outnumbered by foreign doctors. You would be forgiven that you are somewhere in Mumbai instead of Singapore.
I totally agree that the management of human resources,especially so called foreign talents in Singapore is going down the tube. Someone should answer for this debacle.
Which is the busiest government office in Singapore? No prize for guessing. It's the ICA building in Lavender. Go there anytime of the day and you will see all the foreign talents applying for this or that. Looking around me, I don't see much real talent but hookers, KTV hostesses, cooks (how do I know they are cooks? I can smell them out)and assorted minor villians.
I really don't understand why our red passport is valued and respected around the world. You can nowadays get it quite easily. A walk in the park really or rather a leisurely walk from the Lavender MRT to the ICA building. Hehe.
Er Patriot......why do you always call Beanie "SIR" I thought this salutation is only reserved for the Prez or made by the doorman to honoured guests at the Ritz Carlton?
Hi Wally;
i address Beanie as Sir because i rightly or wrongly respect him more than any incumbent parliamentarian.
He is a good guy to relate to here and a nice guy to have a drink with as well.

hi Ramlall, welcome to the blog.
you are right to notice the links with india. the indian empire and influence used to be quite strong in this region during the sri vijaya period. even the island of Bali has a strong indian influence.
singa and pura i believe are indian words. and our president is of indian origin and we have many successful and indian leaders here.
Hi Mr Wally;
thank You very much for the invite, will do my best to present myself. It's an honour to be invited by You.
Talking about the Sri Vijaya(India) Influence on the cultures of Nyanmar, Thailand, Malaysia and South to Bali; it seems to me that SIN was the least affected. There was no huge Hindu Temple, dancing and music of the Indian/Thai/Balinese characters here. The food culture does not seemed affected as well as most Local Indian culinaries have much local flavours. They are not as authentic original Indian.
As for the political participations, SIN does have a large disproportionate number of Indians, in comparison to percentage of Indian/Sri Lankan Citizens.
There is no doubt that Indians were in Singapore for many years and Singapore might had been a Sri-Vijaya Territory.
