MP set on fire
This is the headline news in the papers. Seng Han Tong, and MP, was set on fire by a disgrunted 70 year man who is also a patient at the mental hospital. This kind of things is unheard of in our history. The background of the attacker suggests that this is an isolated case and should not be seen as an increase in social violence.
I believe our MPs and ministers would still be able to walk the streets without being harm. Violence has not been in our culture, or political violence has not been a part of our lives since the 1950s.
Poor bugger. He is hurt very badly for public service.

The heat is getting unbearable for some people, from the BOTTOM to the Top.
The Act cannot be condone, the POOR cannot be written off!

Why him again?
more security measures needed in case of unhappy copycats.
Looks like there are a lot of unhappy, frustrated, angry, mentally disturbed poor people. I think we need a minister mental to take care of this group of people.
we should encourage more people to cyberspace to kpkb. that will be safer for everyone. alas, some of the ah peks may be computer illiterate. community centres should conduct more computer courses to teach the ah peks and ah mahs how to negotiate the net.
This man is a mental patient, he needs help.
if there is a copy-cat mental patient dying to throw shoes?
A legal precendent set - new sets of law will be put in place ..including if you decide to throw shoes.... this guy help put a face in the law. Nevermind he is mental. No Fire NO law.
Poor Seng Han Tong..
Pictures of him "botak" will set public reeling.. Twice bitten.
Perhaps the mad old man thought SHT should be a monk. Anyway now he can meditate his role in this life in the solitude of ICU.
Congratulation!!!
Karma or fate may follow a man no matter who he is or where he may be.
There is no winner in this situation.
The perpetrator is a mental patient( a fact) is an excuse to may be ignore the real issues ... health care or poverty ...
this kind of incident should not happen here. sad that it did. and it is difficult to avoid when people get cranky and angry. a lot of precautionary measures will now be necessary.
Spore leaders love to call us melting pot,but now to me it is a boiling pot.
Of course our leaders would not agree,to each his own lah.
Sinner-Spore
different people have different world views of things.
One security man told me there maybe more jobs for security services.
Oh my!
This society is sick to the core.

There are plenty of jobs they say. I believe them. It's a phrophecy come true. They do think many years ahead, even before this incident they were recruiting police personnel big time.
Men will have plenty of security jobs. Women already have plenty of chambermaid jobs. They really are the most honourable jobs left. Taxi drivers have a bad reputation. One threw a punch and one threw a can of flamable fluid. Not a honourable job anymore lah!
WOW! Singapore's not boring afterall.
It's a 'City of Possibilities'.
Look at it this way. This man is a mental patient and he needs help....The sane ones will not do such stupid thing small thing.
The analogy here is there is no need to be afraid of insane person cos you can spot them easily.
It is the sane ones you should look out for...
that's wisdom.

Hmmm, I am thinking of Andrew Kuan trusting the sane one. And Mr. Sane getting burnt.
It is possible to get some mental patients together, give them firearms, and turn them loose in parliament?
Oh, the city of possibilities :)
matilah is thinking out of the box!
