Would Singapore head the Malaysia way?
The political developments in Malaysia is tearing the country apart. Every political leader now appears a suspect, questionable in action and motive, what they said and did are all taken with a big pinch of salt. In short, unreliable, untrustworthy and unbecoming.
What is more serious is the persecution of Anwar with malicious charges. After his first episode in jail and being beaten, Anwar is facing similar charges and possibly similar endings.
Would Singapore, down the road, see a high profile politician being persecuted and pursued by the 'law' relentless to make sure it stick? Would the fortune of some high profile politicians hang in the balance because of political participation and the need to get rid of them?
The danger and possibility of such a scenario cannot be ruled out. A new power or personality appearing in the arena could decide to set his own terms and deal with who ever he wants the way he wants it. And with the changing of political fortunes, things can become very nasty, and may go the Malaysian way.
Don't ever say no way. Don't be complacent. Do we have a system of checks and balance to avoid such a downfall?

Somehow scandals seem to only come from the opposition candidates, the men in white seem to be always behaving themselves. Either that or none of them has ever been caught.
Even if they get caught, it would be covered up.
Would you slap your own face?
Mr Bean you worried too much and also insulting to the people whom have given s'pore 'AAA' ratings. to reach the stage like M'sia you need to produce a tyrant which i believe your system will be able to stop it.

i am not referring to now or in the immediate future. maybe 10 or 20 years down the road. you would not know when a dictator will appear and seizes power.
Better to rely on a well crafted system than to trust the nature and character of men. The very opposite of what we have.
Malaysia are one up on Singapore with regard to their political development. Why they had to use this tactic on Anwar? It is because, they know that by suing him he is able to pay the money and can't floored him. Where else in Singapore, the opposition can be knocked out by suing them in Court.
Dirty tactics may not be ruled out if the opposition are backed with deep pocket and can't be floored by suing.
in political systems with dishonorable politicians, you can expect all kinds of charges, sodomy, corruption, blasting away evidence.
count ourselves lucky that we have honourable politicians in charge. no one has been charged for sodomy, corruption etc and no bodies have been blasted away.
The nature of a dominant one party system inhibits proper checks and balances and will cripple this nation one day.
They better wake up their farking idea.
hi loyola,
welcome to the blog. and yes, you are absolutely right. only an insane person will think that he can check himself. and we may see more insane people saying exactly this.
