Taunting the opposition
Taunting the opposition or opposition taunting the ruling party should be part and parcel of politics. The slight difference here is that it is a one way thing, with the ruling party taunting the opposition and the other side completely quiet. They were challenged to come out with alternative policies, with better candidates, with more voices to speak out for the people etc etc. What did we hear from the opposition camp? Did we hear any replies or rebuttals? Nay.
Did the opposition reply and were not reported in TOM? Or did the opposition really gone speechless? What is the use of a speechless opposition? It simply cannot be as the opposition should be seen and heard to represent the people's interest. They must be seen to do it all the time, not seasonal or cyclical.
Or is there something more sinister that we don't know? The impression I am getting is that they may be hanged by their balls. And trying to make too much noise will only lead to a tightening of the tension and increasing the pain level. So it is better to keep quiet and all peace on the western front. It is just a perception and I may be totally wrong, and the opposition could be adopting a different kind of strategy which they are keeping to themselves.
Whatever strategies, the people are watching and would want the opposition to stand up and be heard. It is unbecoming for a opposition to be on a silent mode.

they did reply and a good one some more...in Straits times and wanbao
What alternative policies? Didn't the WP came out with a detailed manifesto before the last election? They have all the ideas in their manifesto. But the PAP call it a time-bomb. So, what kind of alternative polices do they want. Same old same old, and must be agreeable to the PAP?
Will the PAP government listen to suggestions put forward by the opposition, or brush them aside as poison? Then quietly and discreetly incorporate such suggestions and call it their own.
The most daring "taunters" of the ruling party in the opposition: CSJ and JBJ.
to anonymous,
i might have missed the reply, or the reply must be quiet mild that it did not strike a chord with me.
come to think of it, when jbj and chee soon juan taunted the pap, there were also no reply.
Except for JBJ and CSJ, the other opposition politicians are all in the PAP's pockets. That's why they are so silent.
hi redbean,
it s very big headline in wanbao :)
thanks anonymous. i did not read wanbao. but it is good that wanbao gave it a good airing and let the people hear the voice of the opposition parties.
if nothing heard, it will give a very negative impression of them.
:) i also never read wanbao but i happen to pass by a news vendor who had it displayed high up..so quite difficult to miss... :)
it is healthier for different papers to take a different orientation and report news differently.
I agree, red bean...
cos different people have different target mkt it can further reach out to different groups too :)
