Send them away
S’pore’s soaring food prices (video) Monday, 28 July 2008, 9:14 pm 320 views Al Jazeera reports on the soaring food prices in Singapore and how Singaporeans are coping. In the report, one lady, who lived in a one-room HDB flat, said she was given $30 when she asked her Member of Parliament for help. “The extra cash can be used to pay for the children’s expenses.
Obviously, it’s not enough,” she said. “In the last couple of years, we’ve seen a concerted increase in these prices,” said Dr Chee Soon Juan, secretary general of the opposition Singapore Democratic Party. “So, we’re very concerned for this and as a government, they have a duty to ensure that the poorest segment of society are able to cope with these matters but they’re not doing [it],” he said.

I would think these people who can't cope with the high cost of living should be send away. There are some bloggers who have been telling Singaporeans to quit if they cannot contribute or are just losers. How many shall we send away?

why must the geniune poor in our country be made to lower their dignity to beg for handouts?
shudnt their payouts be permanently adjusted in the same way that the govt pegged their salaries?
Send the poor away? Send them to where? You mean you don't mind being sent out of this country if you end up being poorer than poor and needier than needy?
PAPaya has ran out of ideas, thus the $30 handout.
Ask them to fix the structural damaged brought by years of GLC and MNC and too many foreign no talents who grap the jobs of our own no talents.
Please start clearing up the mess in the animal farm, the sheep will run wild soon......CSJ may be right, but NO one is listening....
that's what some bloggers here would want to do. i am wondering which political party they are supporting and if this is the position of their political party.
live up to the demands of the first world country or else leave!
which party's manifesto is this?
more privatisation and more profit driven enterprises?
数据显示:本地越来越多年长者为生活继续工作???
What happened to the more good years??? those great slogans..
根据人力部研究与统计部门的数据显示,去年有越来越多的50岁以上国人为赚取生活费而继续工作,其中大部分受雇于陆路交通及支援服务业。
Means cleaners and road sweepers..
So it means that we have super talents that commands millions; foreign talents; local not so talented; foreign non-talent but young and strong; and our poor and outcast which really ought to be "SENT AWAY".
Perhaps we all do have elderly relatives in such situations... it means... PAP did not deliver, and still wants these old folks to continue to work into their death bed!

very unhealthy lifestyle... we have gone backwards by 40 to 50 years.... how SAD.... soon the down and out may have to go back to the STONE AGE.
the old working as cleaners is a passing phenomenon. when they are gone, this lost generation will not be repeated again. after the baby boomer generation, the new generation will all be poly or university graduates. so no need to become cleaners.
at the worst, become taxi drivers.
Do the new generation not grow old too? Nowadays even gradutes have no idea about financial planning and spend every cent, or more, of what they earn.
When they are old and employers discard them, how do they survive, when by then cost of living will be much higher? Sure they have the minimum sum in CPF, but for some, they still need to supplement that. It is still too early to say that they will not become cleaners in old age. Left to be seen.
gods don't grow old, forever young and innocent.
