Why is cyberspace more powerful?

Other than those wild postings, internet blogs and forums have certain distinct advantages over msm. It can be very real, the feelings. And the truth can also be very real, minus the misinformation which is also present in msm. We can be as objective as msm and as bias as msm. The blogs and forums are instant news and information on a topic that is of interest to the bloggers. Not somebody else interest. We set the agenda and decide what is important to us to talk about. And we can keep it current and stay there for as long as we want. No one is able to say, it's over, let's move on. Here we decide when it is over and when to move on. Our hot issues need not be msm's hot issues. And we can harp and harp over an issue to our heart's content. We talk about issues that msm will not dare to touch or touch it gingerly. Cyberspace is here to stay to provide the views that msm could not provide or will not provide. Keep posting guys and gals.

Well, you are right.

However, views and opinions alone don't change the world. The only thing that does is ACTION.

Bloggers and forumers tend to be the least action-oriented. While they are posting their opinion, The Government is the one taking the ACTION, often in DIRECT OPPOSITION to the views and opinions expressed on the net.

As with everything, there are many sides. Cyberspace tends to "atomise" people - regardless of the myriad "on line communities" there are out there.

It is very important, IMO, to turn off the machine, and get outdoors - in the sun, on the beach, wherever.... play and run around with friends, family, kids... without the electronics. i.e. leave the cell phone at home.

Redbean,

Stop smoking pot. Look at the real world. The government is beating the cyberspace. If the cyberspace is so powerful, why are there no reforms?

Redbean, sincerely agree with You here, there are much informations and very good practical suggestions, advices and even assistances from bloggers and posters.

Hopefully no 'roadblocks' will be erected to hamper the freeflows of interactions.

in any issue, there will be different views expressed. some will say cyberspace is useless but others will love cyberspace so much that they will be in cyberspace everyday. and if cyberspace is of no significance, then people will not have sleepless night talking about it.

and guarding it : )

Do you want a medal for stating the obvious?

The point is simply empirical: Is the free wheeling freedom of expression on the internet beating The State or not?

By my observations, NO. Why? Because the same "power" available to you and I is also available to The State — and they have a lot more resources than atomised individuals.

The State also has the ability to censor, control the bandswidth, and monitor the activity. For e.g. the US's FBI monitors just about everything on the net.

It is good for the authority to monitor, for the cyberspace is for everyone, them included.

There are many issues raised just for the authorities because otherwise the issues will never get to the intended parties. And of course, the members of public will also be in the dark about them.

Who's watching the watchmen?

The Sun, the Moon and Nature will take care of the watchman, his family and friends. Just kidding.
