Ang Pow is an acceptable customary practice
Giving ang pows (red packets with money inside) is a traditional Chinese practice. During the Chinese New Year, the Chinese parents will give ang pows to their children, unmarried ones, for good luck.
And they extend this by giving it to the children of all visitors to their homes or neighbour's children.
This practice is further extended to workplace where employees are given ang pows too by their bosses.
Nowadays, ang pows are also given to friends in the business circles as a show of appreciation. It used to be $1.10, then $2, $4, $10, and now $20,000!
I will be deeply moved if anyone were to give me a $20,000 ang pow. It is just a customary practice.

Whats the difference between an ang pow and bridery then? I guess it will be that one is legal while the other's not?
Cannot remember when was the last time I got an ang pow. $20,000 ang pow is quite a good show of appreciation. Who has got it? Who has given it? Can I queue up for it? If so where can I join the queue?
If you people in a position of "power", then bribery will occur. WHY?
Because OTHER PEOPLE also want a slice of the action, or want to get on and "do their thing" but are prevented by the folks in power. Thus bribery is thought to be a better choice than outright conflict—i.e. a fight to the death.
The idea is not to have people in power, i.e. to have social systems founded on the idea of personal responsibility, self-ownership and voluntary association and participation.
the slide has started.
Great. Thus my prediction is well on track. I better buy some wine to keep—let it age nicely for the inevitable Matilah Singapura!
Lord, its so hard to be humble... when you're right! ;)
