nkf story - why the disappointment?
I just read the papers this morning and the impression I get is that people were disappointed by the early concede by Durai. And their reason is that they will miss out on the juicy details when Durai is grilled by the legal counsels.
Then came the consolating thought that Durai will not go away but can still be called upon as witness by the other defendants. It is a case of waiting for the Middle Weight and Light Weight rounds after the Heavy Weight round was rudely ended by a technical KO.
Poor Durai. He can't avoid being the main star of the show. What is pertinent is that his admission of wrongdoings would seriously compromise the positions of the other defendants. His admission would mean that all the allegations by Shanmugam stays, that they are as what Shanmugam set them out to prove. Now Shanmugam needs not prove them and the fiefdom and the cronies are true.
It is now the turn of the cronies to prove that they were not cronies. But to absolve them from blame, they must prove beyond that, that they are worst than cronies. That all decisions were taken by Durai and either they did not know, were not party to it, or were slaves and thus have diminished responsibilities.

Could this admission of guilt be a trade-off? Durai gives up so that the squeaky clean image of Singapore will not be tarnished. No dirty linen in publis, so to speak. For not defending himself further he will get a slap on the wrist, scolded for being a bad boy and let off with minimum punishment.
this case has reached a point where any attempt to cover up will only look very dirty.
basically durai is now on his own. he may declare himself bankrupt and nkf may get barely a cent from him.
Pending the outcome of the case I hope his assets have all been frozen and not transfer to his wife or any other relatives.
Fat chance. I'm sure he would have had the good sense to transfer the bulk of his assets overseas when the shit first hit him in the face.
i can still remember mareva injunction. but talented people are always a step ahead of the law.
now it all depends on the talented to get ahead. but sometimes the talented got too swell headed and think the not so talented would not be able to catch them, and they slip.
one obvious case is the deleting of the computer files. the files are still there to be recover and read.
Mareva injunction is no good if they can't find where the money is stashed.
It was indeed quite foolish of him to believe that a mere deleion will do the job. He should have consulted hi business partner in the IT venture on the proper way to wipe traces off computer hard disks.
