What is this hoohaa about welfarism?
Welfarism seems to be a taboo word. Everyone is so frighten of it as if it is leprosy. But are we talking about welfarism when we ask for the surplus of reserves or profits from investing the country's reserve to be returned to the people? The money belongs to the people. The capable people managing the reserves are managing the people's money, not someone else money.
There must be a formula to return some of these profits back to the people. Or else where or whose pocket should the profit go to? More mega projects? Let's give back the money to the people who needs them instead of upgrading of parks and beautifying this and that. A couple of hundred bucks maybe worthless to the have's but mean a lot to the have nots.
And returning profits from investments to the people is not welfarism. They get a share of the nation's wealth which they are part owner, and only from the profits. Not a permanent feature where the people can demand for it regardless of profit or loss. It will make more sense for the people to feel and share the wealth of the nation than just seeing the money grows and big fat bonuses being paid out to the managers while they get nothing.

Well the poor don't pay taxes so it's not technically their earned money which you propose 'returning' to them.
Redbean, face it.
The welfare is not enjoy to the mass or republic because there is too many ppl. Only the PAP elite get to enjoy these self-declared and given welfare since elites is fewer, and consider superior, much worse when there is no transparency and accountabilityl, and the so called Lee's own self-make law protecting these as@#$@#h@#$les.
Isn't GCT say that given welfare will destroy the nation ?? But strangely, giving welfare to elites PAP gahmen seem justified to them because they are a few and above others, and what more, we yet to uncover how much those welfare is given to MP. I believe it is going to large since our exPeanutPM say that "if you give peanut, u gent peanut". Perhaps the welfare involved giving "golden peanut !!!"
hi anonymous,
in the past the poor don't pay taxes. today everyone pays taxes. even unborn baby and jobless oldies pay taxes...in the form of gst.
now now, we must be clear about what we said. welfarism is welfarism. it is mean for those useless buggers.
salary is a different thing. paying big salary is to reward talent and good work.
and paying peanuts is for monkeys.
all three are different.
PAP = Big welfare + Big Salary + Big Peanut (Golden one) = The Real Monkey
Fu#@$king hell. Maybe my ear something wrong, but just heard news that GST increase from 5% to 7% next feb ....
yes, most probably due to loss of thaisin commm.
i just saw it in the news and have posted my observation on the facial expression and body language of those in parliament.
no one seems convinced.
Only the clown PM seem convinced afterall he is deep shit, whatever to make himself happy, he will do anything, including pissing his own men-in-white and also the cowardice and chicken Singaporean who can only complain and do nothing.
Lee's family will continue their BS until the ppl fight back. But ppl cannot fight because no pride and mortage to pay.
he seems in high spirit, fully convinced that he introduced this gst is to help the lower income singaporeans.
let's wait to see the fine detail when it is rolled out. just remember that singaporeans are not idiots.
