a country is as good as its leadership
a country is as good as its leadership. with quality leadership, we can change the world. that is what singapore distinguishes itself from the rest of the world.
there are many ways to evaluate how good is the leadership, or how worthy is the leadership. one very objective and measurable way to determine how good is our leadership is to look at their remuneration package. i think we have the best leaders in the world if we use pay as a measure of ability. and if they can contribute every cent of their worth in pay, we will be the best country in the whole world.
the chinese saying, 'yi fen qian, yi fen huo.'

the singapore leader said, as quoted in today's paper, that singapore will not adopt the western liberal democracy model of multi party system during the next 20 years.
i think he meant pap and not singapore. the political system and culture of the country must be determined by the people. but in this case, the people has chosen pap as the ruling party, and pap has chosen to run the country under its chosen system. pap may not want to change it but the people still, technically, can decide what system they want.
i am more intrigue by the position that hsien loong is taking. he is assuming that pap will be there for the next twenty years and pap will decide the political system for singaporeans.
