Of course, the funding comes from foreign sources, most probably from NED or National Endowment for Democracy and its related bodies, with NED being the most prolific body doing the work of inciting protests, support insurrection, training of people to conduct the groundwork like in Hong Kong and funding such opposition parties, all on the pretext of promoting democracy.
Being tied to the community based social help programs make them difficult to be dislodged without antagonizing those people needing help. Which is exactly what is happening in Thailand. Singapore is already well-known since the days of LKY regarding keeping away foreign funding for local entities like political parties as interference in the internal affairs of the country.
The difficulty of keeping away such NGOs for a poor country like India is a political powder keg and is well-nigh impossible. What is happening in India now is probably linked to outside interference, with the mass protest being organized by the Opposition Cockroach Party. What a name to choose!
Bangladesh also went through the same modus operandi of unrest agitated by foreign hands and so did Pakistan. These two are pro-China followers, with the former President of Pakistan. Imran Khan, a keen follower of the Chinese system of progress and wanted to adopt the same system for Pakistan. He was to suffer a pre-emptive removal.

I bet to differ, the western NGO only target those country that do not have so call "democracy" system. Those countries Leaders that are friendly to US, do not face such problem with the NGO. India situation is more of their own making. Modi had grown too powerful in his own country that he is blind to all the problems that had been simmering long time ago. With too many people to feed and not much jobs available, soonest or later, India will exploded internally if their G do not look after the majority.
Most are not silly countries but are forced to allow such NGOs to set foot on their soil by following the Rules Based Order of human rights and democracy. Not allowing that will invite punishment or special treatment by the USA and its doggies. Two things allow the USA to run riot over others - human rights and democracy.
Same as allowing the USA to build military bases on their soil, to protect the USA's hegemony rather than to protect the country those bases were situated in. The USA is not that saintly or benevolent, spending huge sums of money just to protect another country. But those countries have no choice when their arms are twisted. They have to obey or perish, like Iraq, Libya and Syria.
Have we heard of the saying that when the Government talks about giving help, people have to run for cover? Once upon a time it happened in one particular country.
The protest over the exam system is just one issue that forced the Indian Education Minister to resign. That is hardly the only issue in India right now.
Job creation in India is another simmering problem about to explode, with new entrants to the employment market competing with the workers returning from overseas, like the West and Middle East. Those back-office call enter jobs in India are also facing extinction with the adoption of AI by Western companies. Inflation in India is going to spike further with the Indian Rupee going down a slippery slope.
The resignation of the education minister is just to save Modi for the time being. Just wait and see.
India is like the USA, both have no problems and are doing excellently well. USA just blame others for its problems. India made others solve its problems and pay for its mismanagement and corruption.
Anyone believes the American terrorists did not plant their NGOs in Singapore?
