Daft Sinkies’ thoughts on CPF

With the pending lawsuit against Roy Ngerng and the protest rally at Hong Lim this weekend on the people’s savings in the CPF, what is the daft Sinkies thinking on this issue? Many are crying foul and demanding that they get their money back, they want their life savings back at 55, no more funny and unintelligent excuses. What would the rest of the world be thinking, would they be puzzled, mouth wide open, eyes popping out, at the thought of the people’s life savings being held back and to be decided by the govt on when and how much they could take back?

Here are the thinkings of some Sinkies. Some are still questioning if the CPF savings are indeed their money. And they need a minister to say yes, it is their money. And they feel so relief in hearing that. Can you believe it, Sinkies saving a life time, putting their hard earned money into a saving scheme and not sure if the money is theirs?

And some even said, it is gone, treat it as a tax to feel better. To this kind of thinking, by not acknowledging that it is their money, by giving up, they will feel less painful. It is a kind of resignation, a kind of capitulation. Can you imagine that daft Sinkies could think like that? And the money is no small sum, hundreds of thousands of highly valued and desired Singapore dollars, that many in other countries could feel very rich and could live on for a life time.

And some take consolation, or maybe really feel it, to be exhilarating, jubilant, when they see the string of zeros in their CPF statements, feeling so very rich.

And some are still hurriedly putting in more cash into their CPF savings to feel richer, to enjoy higher interest rates and to feel secure.

And there are some odd balls protesting and wanting their CPF money back. They are rejecting the 4% interest rates for no interest. And they are not only contributing money generously to a young man to make their feelings felt to the Govt, but will attend in force in a protest rally this Saturday at Hong Lim Park, the Speaker’s Corner, where no permit is needed to hold a protest, just a simple registration of intent.

Would the media report on this strange protest and the strange behaviors and thinkings of the daft Sinkies? Maybe the world’s media will report this incident as a comedy, an uniquely Singaporean thing that would not happen in any country, people protesting to have their life savings back. The whole world may have a good laugh at the daft Sinkies if they come to know what the protest is all about. This is going to be front page news material for the world media except ours.

How can daft Sinkies be not a joke?

Alamak uncle, you make argument liddat sure kena hantam by the minister lah. The govt holds back the money, but they dole out annuity lah, it's not as if you get let down high and dry.

I call the CPF a "tax". But the govt will call it a "fund" -- which is in the name CPF anyway. It's a big pool of money, paying out a bit here, a bit there to members...like a TONTINE ;-)

>> that would not happen in any country, people protesting to have their life savings back.

Again, you are way off the mark. Other cuntrees are slowly adopting CPF-style reforms because they've realised that taxing one generation to pay for the retirement of the present senior generation makes the cuntry uncompetitive due to the tax burden.

Singapore governance is held up as a shining example in many think-tanks around the world.

I thought I'd better remind you of the FACTS.

Thank you. I like your 'facts' or flip flopping.

Better to be able to flip flop than stand rigid only to smashed by a direct hit.

I've already said I'm a morally flexible guy. I would like to add to that too that I take the side of the argument which benefits me in the end-game. ;-)

In eastern spiritual thought, being rigid and of solid form is often looked on with skepticism. Hence the idea of being "formless" so you can readily adapt to circumstance, not only for "survival" but also for "profit".

Namaste, aum shanti ;-)

There are many things and institutions here that are great examples for the rest of the world to emulate. CPF is one of them, but not in the present form. Our housing too is a great achievement, but not at the current price. Our school system was excellent but not when our graduates are sub par when competing for jobs with 3rd world graduates from funny universities. I could go on and on.

We started well, very great. But we are going down hill with many wrong turns.

Lee Hsien Loong can only be Prime Minister with the support of Sinkies.

Please vote opposition.
We cannot afford this very expensive PAP government anymore.

>> But we are going down hill with many wrong turns.

I don't know about the royal "we" -- who are these people?!?

All I know by looking at the data is that Singapore is indeed getting "better", not as you say "going downhill".

Life is what you, and I as INDIVIDUALS make of it.

Governments will do what governments do -- which is go against the grain most of the time to what the people who voted them in want. Singapore is not the only place where some people are disgruntled and dissatisfied with their govt. In any given day, somewhere on the planet are people protesting their govt -- in every cuntry, there are people who shit on their govts -- which IMO is a healthy thing.

Singapore may not be changing to everyone's satisfaction. However, when you consider the "alternatives", what we have now is pretty darn awesome, thanks to the energy of the private sector, and a govt who essentially keeps its thieving paws and over-regulation AWAY FROM the private sector.

Meritocracy is a hard sell to people who prefer to get thru life by being slackers :-)

60%, being smart Sinkies, are able to make lots of money throughout their working life. As a result they have lots of cash at 55 so no need to withdraw from their CPF.

And with lots of cash at their disposal, they will also will enjoy life and of course more than happy to vote for PAP every election.

So Roy's fight with PAP/LHL is already doomed not only from the start but throughout the fight. And needless to say, those supporting him, whether with $$ or whatever, will sooner or later come to realise it is $$, time and effort down the drain.

RB 12:01 pm

Our graduates become sub par because they are expensive, as compared to foreigners. To put it more bluntly, less value for the same money. And that is one.

Another is that our graduates no enough numbers even as ordinary ones, let alone talented ones, as compared to foreigners.

So hope RB can understand better now.

If the Internet can make PAP lose, PAP would already have lost in 2011.

If big crowds at opposition rallies can make opposition win, opposition, whether ready or not ready to be govt, would have won in 2011.

ANy person with the right frame of mind want people to control their money?

Even putting their money in a few banks is more safer then putting their money in one bank with less interest then 3 percent, what is 3 percent interest and wait until you don't know can see the money or not in your hand?

Even putting their money in a few banks with less interest then 3 percent is safer and less risky, then putting all their money in one bank or somewhere with less interest then 3 percent, what is 3 percent interest and wait until you old don't know can see the money or not in your hand? Or can you live until these age of 65 just to collect a few hundreds per month?

What is the chances you are able to use your money when there is emergency, and the chances to use your own money when it is given to you when you are 65 or 70, the risk as associated with it?

Many of those forties and fifties married late of course the hope that the money return to them at 55 or at least a high percentage return to them in case of retrench due to heavy competition for jobs from foreigners?

Many married late and have family and children to take care?

what is the risk when you put for different kind of fund managers?

Need to have at least one million people attending this event to have any impact on the gov. People should cycle to HL park and with their bikes jam up the entire CBD area. They should all bring whistles and horns and make a lot of noise to wake up everyone especially the sleeping on the job ministers.

I disagree.
Singaporeans have taken me by surprise.
I never thot I'd live to see the day PAP will lose a GRC.
And then GE 2011 happened.

I never thot Roy Ngerng would raise more than $2,000 in 2 months.
And then he gets $70K in 4 days!

I salute our young Singaporeans.
Singapore is in good hands.

@508:

>> Please do not bang too much on your rally in Hong Lim Park on 7th June.

Hey sunshine, people have a grievance to air, let them air it can or not? IMO the people should strive for maximum bang.

>> There will be many photos and videos taken on that day and these will be scrutinised and any faces on the photos and anyone shouting the loudest will be recorded in the videos.

Of course. In case you haven't heard, we live in a time of YouTube and other instantly uploadable "it might as well be live" videos.

Last time ISD must hide hide to take pictures and "spy" on the people doing their civic business. Now, everyone with a cell phone can capture the event -- and even take pictures of the "spies" who are pretending to "be cool".

Having many people take footage also has a security aspect: those agent provocateurs who are planning some mischief and plan to disrupt the event, will probably be "outed" on the thousands of people using their cell phone. EVERYONE should be using their cell phone cameras and uploading the images. This is in accordance with my maximum bang theory.

If you are going to protest and you are going to be quiet as a mouse, then I suggest you don't waste your time.

>> They are also selfish and will not think for the general good, only for themselves.

WTF is the "general good"? This is CPF -- it is personal, it is rooted in self interest. People are concerned simply because it affects them INDIVIDUALLY. This is PURE rational selfishness at work. P.S. I'm a big fan of 'selfishness'. Read the book. Change your life, forever ;-)

When people focus on their own self interest, and come together because each one has a self interest, then you see what happens -- the "general" or "collective" case is strengthened.

>> Singaporeans will live under the PAP regime forever.

Sure. Why not? But what happens if the PAP does indeed change, and wins back voters?

Then how?

I dun believe in a 'static universe'. Everything is in motion. Change never stops.

Fortunately the ROy saga, brought out more and more awareness and ideas form various people of CPF?

Many had contribute their ideas how to return their CPF at 55, because of viral of the CPF make many aware more about the CPF problems?

In today trend more people likely need the CPF as a backup in case they lost their jobs, because of heavy competitions then yesteryears?

Given a choice very few liekly want to wait much longer until 65 to get out some money?

You work 30 over years to save your CPF and thought that you got to get your CPF when you go to get your CPF savings when you are going to 55 as promised, suddenly the rules changed, what do you thing? When the rule change again you will increase your risk again of more difficult in getting your CPF?

People can give you all sorts of excuses ultimately it is your money and it was promised to give you back, you should had the options to get it back when you reach 55?

After all it is your hard earn money? You have many ways to use it more efficiently then to put inside some place and wait for another ten years, which increase much more risk as you can't get it when you reach 55? The risk of a person can't use it increase dramatically if he wait until ten year later just to get a few hundreds per month?

Hong Lim meeting will be a failure. Singaporeans should hide at home and watch TV. Nothing will come out of this meeting. Why go there knowing nothing good will come out of it and risk being caught on a photos or video? Think about that promotion you are aiming for in your government office. Must not risk that chance for that promotion. Roy will also be there. I wonder what he will speak about at this meeting. He has already retracted his post on his blog and apologised to PM. If he believes in what he has written why did he apologise? What he wrong or was he right in what he wrote? LHL will screw him into bankruptcy and it will serve him right for mouthing nonsense.

Me very simple senior citizen and therefore is a bit daft, but not too daft t know nothing. I know that Singapore is the Richest State in S E Asia since it came under British Rule(circa 1819 AD). It was not a fishing village as claimed by the Local Rulers. I also know that the Rulers of the Tiny Rock are many many times more than Leaders of nations millions time bigger with billion times more in population. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? I find it hard to believe, however, the World knows that IT IS A FACT.

When I started working and contributing into the CPF, the Rule then was that it will be returned to me when I am alive at 55 year old. That condition was changed many times without any consultation with the CPF Members and the Scheme itself is compulsory. Neither was any change enacted through any referendum. Of course all the CPF Members lan lan have to comply with every change that were decreed. What can they do anyway, criticism, proposal and suggest were All treated as noises.

上的山多終遇虎 literally translated means making too many trips in the jungle will result in meeting tigers. I shall interpret it as too much bullying wii result in retaliation. As a consequence of too much conditions added over the years, CPF Members are frustrated and exasperated over the enforced changes.
By Providence, it resulted in a Defamation Suit initiated by the Chief of the State against a young citizen. Now, it has escalated to a tussle between the Rulers and the People. Is it bad for Singapore or for Singaporeans, especially Singaporeans?

Coming to 64 year old, it is too late for me to be bothered about the little bit of my CPF. However, me does see the Need for the Younger Generations to have serious discussion about the CPF Scheme with the Rulers.

Roy Ngerng is godsend.

Hi Patriot

You already old so it does not affect you too much. Younger Singaporeans will have more trouble in their future. It is up to them now. If they do not take action then they will have to live with the consequences. Let us wait and see how many young Singaporeans meet at Hong Lim Park on Saturday. My guess is very few will bother.

Tiok. And this is typical of Sinkies, young and old.

If they really bother, the Sinkie opposition would had been ready to be govt in GE 2011 already. And won the GE then.

And no CPF issue, no need go Hong Lim Park and of course no such Roy fella.

I think this PAP also knows.

For those who still think that CPF is their money must be stupidly retarded, when these CPF is managed by PAP government.

Don't believe ? Just ask this question, when the PAP clowns still insist that they are servants and the people are the master but yet has no quell to bully the master, and take the money away from the master while at the same time, use the master's money to pay themselves the highest politician's salary in the world. And yet prepare to sue the master if he want to know what happen to his cpf under the charge of the servants.

If such pervert thinking of PAP can happen, why do you think of CPF then ?

Not interest in CPF tax paid but will be thankful if interest generated from this CPF tax can help as funeral expenses.
And we should consider having NTUC to provide funeral services to citizen like me, instant transfer of cpf tax interest to NTUC so that my future children dun have to worry about the expenses.
