the water supply as a God given right. They need a taste of what water
rationing is like to take water conservation seriously. He said, ‘Do we
need our reservoirs’s water levels to deplete further, or wait for a
NEWater or desalination plant to malfunction under the increased
production, before reality sets in?’
I agree with him the Sinkies must not waste water unnecessarily. But who
is the real culprit in excessive water consumption? Wait till the
population hits 6.9m, another 1.5m people in the island, then you won’t
need a dry spell to ration water. You may have to ration water daily
throughout the year.
Do we really have enough water sources to feed the need of 6.9m or more?
Maybe the wake up shall be addressed to the govt. Do we need 6.9m
population to feel the squeeze on our water supply? At the moment we
have just about enough for 5.4m people and this applies to many other
facilities and infrastructure. Can we really cope with 6.9m? Maybe we
can, and by then, we will have to live with ERP on our water supply as
well.
Is this dry spell a wake up call on the Govt to think thrice about the 6.9m population rather than on the Sinkies?

Tiok. By choosing not to mention water shortage due to 6.9 million population, this Christopher Teo Kian Lam is a most probable example of a Sinkie (if he is one) and part of the 60% who will vote PAP.
I predict he may next write: "Do we need the opposition to become govt before reality sets in?"

I think the air, water, food supplies and land can house up to 12M people on this small small city.
If not enough and still want to increase the population further to say 20M, we can consider leasing Batam for 956-yr with the option of extending for another 956-yr, with a loooooong bridge linking Singapore to Batam (like Penang 2nd bridge).

Water rationing would be thing of a norm....anything for a buck, as long as the economy can grow, the pump has been turn on us for so long that it has become a habit, the 10 million (Red Bean, please keep up with the figures),will be sucking us dry, but, no worries, just charge by the bucket, I would not be surprise if they charge the air that we breadth once the haze clear...they have to keep up with the image of the most expensive city, right!

Who are the heaviest usage of water ? The 40% only use nominal quantity.Every condo has a pool, industries use a huge amount of water. Gdp and 60% will be affected more. The 40% are more resilient. We shall see who kong first.
Only the rich can afford to waste our expensive water.

Despair not, if PAP needs ore water, there are few more lakes in Tekong, Ubin and Tampines. Together, these lakes maybe able to supply another many thoudand households.
Question is, do they prefer to ration water if dry spell persists and raise the price of water.
The water in the Lakes mentioned are at present unused.
I don't think they would talk about water rationing if there are more oppositions in govt. If the 40% is correct, we wouldn't need so much water now to feed so many, we can just rely on Johor for the unlimited supply.
Nothing surprising. Their policy is to increase the population first at all cost and worry about the consequences later.

Going by the "loss-count" MRT trains frequent rush hours breakdowns not dissimilar to clock work, presumably due to overloading what the system is built for, there is no guarantee the "over-straining" of the various water plants at full capacity of 200 million gallons per day in the past months and in the likely many months to come might not lead to "similar frequent breakdowns like the MRT clock-work countless breakdowns".
At full capacity, currently the supply and demand usage is more or less even out. But is there a guarantee that the various water plants would not breakdown after a period of "overloading" presumably by the increased in the straining of the infrastructure due predominantly by the opening of floodgate which likely is not built for and presumably cannot cope with such "over-loading"" indefinitely.
With so much resources and talents ( think of all the ex-generals, ex-colonels, ex-Lt colonels, ex-admirals, scholars and what have you? ) thrown at the problem short of their "grandmothers' kitchens and sinks" and clock-like breakdowns still occurring in recent days and weeks during peak rush hours, who is there to guarantee the various water plants would not "go the way of MRT train service"?
Many readers here including the blog owner RB are too aware of this "Ngum Ngum Ho" syndrome prevalent in the monthly finances of many people in this red dot.
IF even one of the "full capacity" running water plants "kaput" like the clock-work breakdown affairs of MRT system, likely and hopefully not "somebody is going to ration water like the ERP road usage".
By then, maybe "daily shower" is "just a piece of wet hand tower, not even a small pail of water".
And maybe "flushing of toilets" could end up "becoming a family affair and whole family big business done, poops collected and accumulated before the toilet bowl is flushed away once a day".
Hope it will not happen given the current dry spell which does not look like relenting just yet ..... with each passing day adding to the lengthening record of this dry spell.
Hope the "multi-million dollars men and women" are not contemplating building another DOME-like water and energy intensive multi-billion dollars "artificial temperate jungle" in the midst of "desert-like" equatorial climate Singapore?

Perhaps its God way of telling sinkies that the 6.9m population white paper should be dropped like a bomb. All the floodings, hazy days, drought, hfmd, dengue are indicators that high density is not suitable for this island in this climate. Keep it lean and clean. Why be so greedy?
