Gorbachev was too naive to believe that the West would not move NATO an inch closer to the border with Moscow. A verbal assurance, no doubt, which gave the USA and NATO the perfect excuse to keep moving Eastward.
Even Putin had been blindsided in 2014 while negotiating with NATO after seeing NATO encroaching towards the Russian Border relentlessly, dangling a carrot in front of Zelenskyy and luring Ukraine to join NATO. This was Russia's red line that was to be the reason for the Ukraine War.
Agreements reached during negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in the early days of the war were about to be signed, but sabotaged by NATO, actually by Boris Johnson on behalf of the USA undoubtedly. This is what led Sergei Lavrov to say that any negotiation with the USA is tinged with deception, and the Russians no longer trust the USA in any further talks. In fact, the CIA chief's visit coincided with a visit by the Vatican representative to Moscow to give what was interpreted by many as giving a religious dimension to moral and humanitarian support to the USA. Many are asking why the Vatican did not send representatives to start talks regarding Gaza all this time, when genocide was rampant.
Of course, that trip by the CIA chief ended in failure. Russia no longer wants to talk about negotiation to end the war in Ukraine. They know it is all wasted time and effort.

The USA is touting that its sanctions are already reaping rewards, with prices rising in Iran. Oh yes, I think prices are also rising in the USA as well, with gasoline at more than US$5 per liter. That is going to trickle down to other goods needing transportation cost that is also rising. Iran will be able to survive with all those sanctions, even after 45 years of sanctioning by the USA. This is a fact and cannot be destroyed by fiction.
Iranian oil exports are not done in US$ anymore and the USA cannot do anything to Iran's oil business other than gloating. The only avenue is using secondary sanctions against those doing business with Iran. That is already falling to pieces with China refusing to co-operate. China is never going to co-operate as Iran is important to China with its oil exports which China needs. China can always deal with Iran, even using barter importing oil to be paid with equipment and development. That has already been going on even before the USA war against Iran.
J. D. Vance is trying to tell the world that Iran no longer controls the Strait of Hormuz. In other words, the Strait is now open. Tell that to shipowners and insurers. How many ships pass through and how many have been attacked by Iran?
More than 6,000 seafarers are still stuck in the Gulf, unable to leave. Does that indicate anything? Try to run the Strait and they will be sunk by mines, touted to have been completely cleared by twits. Trump boasted about having completely destroyed the air force, navy and logistics of Iran. Why then is he afraid of more mines being laid by Iran if the naval force is completely destroyed? Does not add up, right?
Sorry, should read as US$5 per gallon in most states.
My apologies. Anon 9.01
