The visit was nothing more than a face-saving gesture accorded to Trump, nothing more. Nothing of significance had been achieved and analysts have said that the visit puts Xi in an even more prominent position of who is dictating the rules.
Trump has invited Xi to visit Washington in September. But there were no comments from the Chinese side. So, let us see.
Meanwhile Putin is visiting Xi these few days, probably sounding out Putin about what had been going on with the USA talks. On the card is putting certainty into a gas pipeline project for Russian gas into China. This is a sign of greater co-operation between Russia and China, giving Russia an even greater economic foundation in the years to come. What this means is that China will have alternatives to play with and be seeking less dependent on Qatar, Australia, USA among others for LNG that may be geopolitically inconvenient in times of conflict. China plans decades ahead, not building toilets when the urge to pee or poo is imminent.

The media is now comparing the differences over how Xi treated Trump and how he treated Putin during their visit. One media video post even highlighted the red carpet on the towable aircraft passenger stairs used to welcome Putin descending from his plane and the non-red-carpet stairs used by Trump.
What does the West expect, when Trump is perceived as a visiting troublemaker, while the other is an ally visiting to consolidate their alliance. Common sense will tell us what to expect. The Chinese are not as blunt as the Whites but always show their displeasure without being too apparent and undiplomatic.
There is another take on the visit to a garden in Zhongnanhai that Xi took Trump to. Xi showed Trump a very old tree, a several centuries old tree. The hidden message to Trump, according to one comment, was that Xi was discreetly trying to tell Trump that China has existed well over five thousand years, while the USA is a sapling by comparison. I do not think Trump got the hidden message anyway talking about ancient trees. He is more interested in those children welcoming him at the airport, even talking and praising them at the banquet. Strange delivery for a President at a banquet. For a pedophile, it was an eerie expose. Keep those children away from Trump was the advice, lol.
Anyway, the USA media can interpret the two visits in their own way, but China will not have to apologize. The dogs bark, but the caravan moves on.
