Xi Jinping says peaceful reunification with Taiwan is in country’s best interests

President says the ‘complete reunification of the motherland must be fulfilled’ and warns that those who oppose this are doomed

President Xi Jinping said on Saturday that Beijing hoped Taiwan could be reunited peacefully with the Chinese mainland as he warned that those who opposed this would be “judged by history”.

“To achieve the reunification of the motherland by peaceful means is most in line with the overall interests of the Chinese nation, including our compatriots in Taiwan,” Xi told a meeting in Beijing commemorating the 110th anniversary of the revolution that established the first Chinese republic.

The Xinhai Revolution, which began in Wuchang, now part of modern-day Wuhan, led to the downfall of the Qing dynasty.

In his most high-profile speech on Taiwan since July 1, the Communist Party’s centenary, Xi said: “We [should] adhere to the basic policy of peaceful reunification and one country, two systems, adhere to the one-China principle and the 1992 consensus, and promote the peaceful development of cross-strait relations.”

He urged Taiwan to “stand on the right side of history jointly to create the glorious cause of the full reunification and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation”.

Xi added that secessionists were “the biggest obstacle to the reunification of the motherland and a serious hidden risk to national rejuvenation”.

“Those who forget their ancestors, betray the motherland, or split the country are doomed. They will definitely be spurned by the people and judged by history.”

Without naming any country directly, Xi also warned of foreign interference. “The Taiwan issue is entirely China’s internal affair, and no external interference can be condoned,” he said.

“No one should underestimate the Chinese people’s determination, and strong ability to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity, The historical task of the complete reunification of the motherland must be fulfilled, and it will definitely be fulfilled,” he said.

This speech by President Xi Jinping on Saturday is China's last and final warning to Taiwan secessionists. Since Taiwan's Tsai responded on Oct 10 by reiterating Taiwan "sovereignity," the stage is set for war.

The US and its Asia-Pacific allies are instigating Taiwan spiritually to go down the path of confronting China and separating the island from the mainland.

Former Australian prime minister Tony Abbott, after his visit to the island of Taiwan, published on The Australian newspaper on Sunday an edited version of a speech he delivered in the island. The article has a provocative headline "My message to Taiwan: get ready to fight."

It advocates that "the best way to avoid the war that no one wants is to be prepared to fight it," and encourages Taiwan to turn itself into "an eastern Israel capable of inflicting massive and asymmetric damage on any invader." He also said that "to the extent that there's a Biden doctrine, post-Afghanistan, it's that America helps those who help themselves. And, why not? Because no one could be expected to fight harder for Taiwan than you would be prepared to fight for yourselves."

The message Abbott conveyed is by no means encouraging. He actually wanted "Taiwan to fight for itself," and not expect substantial protection from the US and its allies. To put it bluntly, Abbott actually asked Taiwan to "stand up and die" for Western interests and to act as cannon fodder on a war that the island is destined to lose in order to win praise from the West.

Taiwan people should tell Abbott: It is better for you Australians prepare to fight. Australia can deploy most of its warships around the Chinese mainland and give young Australian soldiers "a worthy death defending democracy".

This Abbott is as silly as Morrison. Can't expect much intelligence from descendants of convicts.

The silly woman and her pro Japanese clique think it is so easy. The Taiwanese generals and soldiers know best. There is no contest. The Taiwanese military would arrest her and her gang and reunite with China once China decides to take over Taiwan.
