‘US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter is willing to risk a war with China in order to defend “freedom of navigation” in the South China Sea. Speaking in Honolulu, Hawaii on Wednesday, Carter issued his “most forceful” warning yet, demanding “an immediate and lasting halt to land reclamation” by China in the disputed Spratly Islands.
Carter said: “There should be no mistake: The United States will fly, sail, and operate wherever international law allows, as we do all around the world.” He also added that the United States intended to remain “the principal security power in the Asia-Pacific for decades to come.”
In order to show Chinese leaders “who’s the boss”, Carter has threatened to deploy US warships and surveillance aircraft to within twelve miles of the islands that China claims are within their territorial waters. Not surprisingly, the US is challenging China under the provisions of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, a document the US has stubbornly refused to ratify. But that’s neither here nor there for the bellicose Carter whose insatiable appetite for confrontation makes him the most reckless Sec-Def since Donald Rumsfeld….’
Mike Whitney called Ash Carter a madhatter not for no reasons. We
taught George Bush Junior and Donald Rumsfeld were bad. Now the combination of
Obama and Carter is going to make them look like angels. Bush and Rumsfeld took
on countries that cannot hit back and for the control of oil. This Ash Carter,
with his mouth in his anus, is thinking to taking on China, a country that not
only can hit back, but can nuclear the US homeland as well. Sure, the Americans
got a bigger dick and many dicks. But one good dick is enough to KO the
Americans.
These two madhatters are playing with fire in the name of freedom
of navigation when not a single ship of any nationalities has encountered
problems navigating the South China Sea. And the Americans got no reason to be
plying in the Chinese claimed islands but insisted on sailing there to tell the
Chinese who is boss and who is in control of the South China Sea.All those asses that are still siding with the madhatters, that the Americans are a peace loving country need to go and see the shrink. The Americans like this Carter is saying, is all about power and hegemony. The Americans want to be “the principal security power in the Asia-Pacific for decades to come.” It has nothing to do about freedom of navigation. It has nothing to do about protecting the interests of SE Asian countries. It is about Pax Americana!
And failing to snook the SE Asian countries into a war they did not want, the Americans are tearing off their mask of innocence and warning the Chinese that it would be war. The world’s Number One warmonger has spoken. No one believes in their hype on threats to freedom of navigation.
It is Redcon 3 in the South China Sea. The gangsters are ready for a fight to bring war to the region. What pivot to Asia? The Americans do not come for peace but war.

Asia welcomes You!.

You have to go back to the early 1900's when then Prez woodrow Wilson was addressing Congress when he said:
quote "Absolute freedom of navigation upon the seas, outside territorial waters, alike in peace and in war, except as the seas may be closed in whole or in part by international action for the enforcement of international covenants. unquote
Later on, the (useless and pointless) United Nations "invented" the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and that "doctrine" continues to present day. This convention defines territorial limits. China ratified this convention in 1996
So now there's a lot of hot air flying around and people (like RB) are flipping their shit, waving the requisite flag and cheering their "home team", and name-calling their adversaries.
The way it stands, China is on the back foot here. In SE Asia it has NO FRIENDS who would support China's claims of "territorial sovereignty"---why do you think the USA can have so many bases and deployments in the region? Because the US has many "friends" in SE Asia. (see map provided in original article).
So...all parties better come back to Singapore's Shangri La Hotel, and relac tok kok some more. Don't fight lah. Everybody lose money lah. Australia economy will drop like grandmother's tetek lah...
I will become "economic refugee". Then have to come back Singapore sell backside. But who want to buy 60 year old virgin backside?!? And for how much....
No lah, dun fight. Save my backside.
How to trust someone who refused to ratify the UNCLOS but demanding others to abide by it?
China is not having many friends because it was demonised and made a scapegoat by the West for the last 3 centuries, and the daft countries that were raped and looted by the West believed that China is their enemy when China did not even shit on their face.
@ RB:
>> How to trust someone who refused to ratify the UNCLOS but demanding others to abide by it? <<
Who said anything about "trust"? America's doctrine is based on exceptionalism, backed up by awesome weaponry and expertise in killing lots of people for "good ol' American reasons".
America, as a rule, usually doesn't ratify ANY UN Treaty/ Convention, because (of exceptionalism) "America stands on its own". America also disregards any international court, but will enforce international law.
That's just the reality of the situation lah.
>> China is not having many friends because it was demonised and made a scapegoat by the West for the last 3 centuries <<
Yup. That is also "reality". In geopolitics, especially in the Asian region: Perception IS Reality.
OK lah, I might as well coem out and say it, since everyone is so uncomfortable, die die they just keep quiet.
Here is the Asian leaders' (ASEAN) mentality:
White man == GOOD
Asian man == BAD
Chinaman === THE WORST
It is as if ASEAN has a gun, and then they use the gun to shoot themselves, and each other.
So how?
Repeat after me boys and girls.
China bad, US good, China bad, US good.
Good, now repeat them 1000 times before you go to bed.
China bad, US good, China bad, US good.
Ok, now you are so good, one hotdog for you.
A cowboy is a cowboy. In the western movies they settle scores by drawing their guns to see who die faster. And the cowboys are always looking for a fight. Old habits die hard.
When the red indians have only bows and arrows, the outcome is certain. Nowadays, things are not that certain. They may win a nuclear war, but can they be certain the world is still liveable? This is not like the old days where they can drop millions of tons of bombs and after that the winner just do a roaring business of giving loans to rebuild and buying new weapons from them.
Not only would there be nothing to rebuild, whoever survived the nuclear holocaust may not look like humans anymore.
Well, they think that by hiding in the fortification under the mountains, miles deep, with food and water to last 3 to 5 years, they can survive. But, after that?
Horrors, after 3 to 5 years, they truly would not look human at all. And with food on the surface contaminated, maybe the safest is to eat each other. By then they wish they had not survived at all initially.
