Blurring the lines between foreigners and citizens
People living in Singapore should relate to one another as human beings first instead of trying to “pigeonhole” one another according to nationality, said Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports Chan Chun Sing.
“When we look at an issue, let's try not to pigeonhole each other as a Singaporean or a foreigner, which can complicate the problem,” said the Minister, who was speaking to an audience of about 600 community leaders at the annual National Community Engagement Programme Dialogue on Saturday, reported the Straits Times.
I totally disagree with this approach to blur the lines between foreigners and citizens. The issue of citizens first and foreigners second has been thrashed many times and we are just beginning to see some difference with priorities and benefits skewing back to favour citizens. We must not allow anyone to blur the line again and let foreigners think they should be treated better than Sinkies or that both are equal.
This is our country and foreigners are foreigners. Foreigners are fair weather immigrants here to make money and to disappear when things are not to their liking. We can treat them fairly and decently but must always remember that foreigners are not citizens. The Govt is voted to be the govt by the citizens to look after the citizens. The interest of foreigners must be incidental and not be given priority or preference over citizens.
We even have 4 ethnic groups in our identity cards to define the differences. Why should we ignore the difference between foreigners and citizens especially when they crossed the line?

What he has forgotten is the DNA (of the foreigners) will follow wherever they go, and this DNA will somewhat distort or destroy the local culture as a result.
For instance, fake degree and 'doctor' can be seen anywhere in the World today, including Singapore!
In America, we are called Aliens. Think they know better than our dear Kee Chiu. No?

Therefore foreigner should do National Service. Or Singaporeans need not do National Service.
Yes, we should not pigeonhole each other. But Singaporeans should live in pigeonholes, while foreigners live in $30-million bungalows in Sentosa Cove.
Li Jia Wei is a good example of how we gave citizenship and goodies to them, cash for medals and look what happened. We been taken for a ride. She's gone back china.
I agree with RB on this issue there must be a difference between Sinkies and Foreigners and even PR.
I have friends who are PR but never take up citizenship bec they want the best of both worlds. For Sinkies , our roots are here and it is about time the Papies realised this. Of course we will live in harmony with foreigners but dont step out of line which is reasonable to ask.

Yet we are differentiated such that those living in Opposition wards are placed last for HDB improvements!!!
The G is so myopic!!!

How can a Minister, elected by the Singaporean said that! There will always be difference when an issue is viewed from perspective of nationality. It is the responsibility of the Minister to see the distinction and that
singaporean interest is served first After all he is elected to serve the citizen!
Is he a Pro Alien Traitor?
Should Singaporeans die defending, properties belonging to a Pro Alien Traitor?
Why should we not differentiate on nationality?!
The Singaporean way is to draw lines Everywhere it is possible - between different ethnic groups, between whether you live in a PAP or Opp ward, on religion, on academic results, on the amount of money you have, on age, etc etc.
Why baulk at the really important things, like nationality, like whether you're a citizen or not?
Is Chun Sing a Singaporean or what? Is his an unpatriotic suggestion or what?
Stick a pigeon in his hole lah.
Just ignore any professional soldier or ex military man.
They only know how to give order and made demand and hardly care a damn about others feeling. They should spend their time at mock up battle field or play virtual combat game. Leave it to those who know people's feeling to manage the state.
patriot
What he said will go down in history as a traitor and betrayer of Singapore and Singaporeans.
He has no right to talk like this , he is not even elected by Singaporeans. He just walked into parliament.
Shame on him if he is a real Singaporean.
Welcome to the blog, ilovemycountry.
He is just a young man and very young in politics.
