Everyday the papers and the TV flashed faces of anguish of distraught students from UNSW and their parents. It is truly distressing.
A very sad episode to put so many innocent people in such a state of uncertainty with their hopes totally smashed.

What about the anguish of the viewers and readers who have nothing to do with the UNSW fiasco yet have to put up with this non-stop harking of what happened. It is starting to sound like a broken record. Those students, their parents and everyone involved in this whole affair should really get a life. What's done is done. These jerks made the wrong decision to put their faith with some half-baked university, now they have to live with the consequences of their decisions. I say, grow up, pick up the pieces and get on with your life. The world isn't stopping still waiting for you jerks to finish your mourning.
So many people my foot. 150/4500000 is only 0.0033% for fuck's sake. And they are not that innocent too. They went in with their eyes wide open. That they ended up knocking into a brick wall shows up their utter incompetence and naivity.
you people are telling these distressing people to face the brutal truth, squarely.
you may not feel sorry for them, i do. today's paper showed a father still trying to find a way out for her daughter who, at that young age, is literally quite lost. she had pinned her hope of a degree on unsw. now all gone. her father too cannot afford to send her to sydney to continue her course.
to have been given hope and then had it taken away, people, have a heart. the expression on their faces is very depressing.
Wankers need to be told the brutal truth because they are prone to blaming everyone but themselves. They need to wake up to the fact that in life, they and they alone are responsible for their actions. The buck stops with them. They made a mistake, face up to that like a grown up, instead of whining, bitching and crying like a spoilt brat. Cannot afford to go to UNSW in Sydney, can always go to University of Timbuktoo what. Think their reputation not much worse off than UNSW after this episode.
Some students may have no other choices ie their grades were not good enough to get into the three local universities. Some students may been lured by the double-degree arrangements and shorter route to a degree and some of course are just, well, swayed by the novelty of being pioneers of a foreign university in Singapore.
The argument is that these students and their parents took the risk, no one forced them to.
Finally, yes I still feel sorry for their plight and their parent's anguish, regardless of whether they went in with their eyes wide open or not.
Beside redbean and the news journalists making a big deal out of the story, I suspect it is a nothing more than a non-event to most as the postings here have rightly pointed out. In a small place with limited local news coverage, there is a propensity for things to be blown out of proportion. It is just much ado about nothing period.
TV and journalists should go surburbs like King George to capture the despaired and hopeless faces of the poor and aged, instead of depicting young, thriving, brighteyed as hopeless distraughts and convincing people like redbean they have a good story.
from your post i think you are a young man coming from a fairly comfortable home and have never face any real hardship in life.
it is good to look at the plight of the less fortunate, empathise with the troubled and build some good karma for yourself.
i have seen many very well to do friends fell into hard times overnight without know what hit them. they fell flat on their faces to learn what it is like to be there.
we live life to experience all the feelings and motions, the highs and the lows, the joys and the pains, the good times and bad times, it is all in the package. it goes around in a circle.

Blah blah blah... good rant! Except that you missed the point of the forumners. Again. I suggest you reread the postings from the beginning and think.

Every word you utter sound so buay tahan exaggerated dun u think? Like dead people lying all over a devasted zone, is it really that bad hullo is what everyone is asking? And you switched subject to go into a rant like the forumners didnt exist.
Redbean in a paradox unto himself. He talks so much about karma, yet believe that it is alright to have casinos because it is good for the economy. Never mind, that the existence of the casinos has the potential to wreck the lives of many families. Dunno what karma he is referring to, possibly the karma referenced in the Moneyology cult.
life is a gamble all the way. the casino is just a simpler form. and in all gambling there will be winners and losers, and more losers, just like in life.
the winners in the casinos are the workers who earn a decent pay working and not gambling. there will be more people with food on the table than a few who will drown themselves voluntarily and bringing down their families.
just imagine if no one push the button to go ahead, our economy today will be in the yoyo and many will still be out of jobs.
there is no solution that do not cause problems. just weigh the gains and losses.
morality is relative, and so is goodness. if casino is bad, so is prostitution, alcohol, tobacco, drugs, horse racing, toto, 4 d, football bettings etc. how good or bad all these are is relative again.
Morality can never be "relative", because it deals with the fundamental difference between what is a "good" action, and what is a "bad" one, and the reasons why. Morality, therefore is always an ABSOLUTE.
However we do live in times where relativism is rife. People frequently say "Everything is relative", as a sort of cop out and/or intellectual laziness.
Next time some idiot tells you that "morality is relative", ask him if it it alright to go over his house, anally rape his daughters, wife and mother, and then kill his entire family and burn down the house. The you will know how "relative" his morality really is.
morality is relative. relative over time, relative from race to race, relative from individual to individual.
matilah, what you are doing in the land of smiles, many years ago, you will be stripped and caned in public and then hanged up for all to see. and if you are lucky, they will cut if off to feed the dogs. the other party providing you the amusements will be dunked alive.
and what you considered fun may not be agreeable to everyone. i may agree with your fun but you cannot be certain of others.
When the fuck are you going to stop suggesting to me "how to live my life", so that you can feel a bit more "comfortable" in your existence?
Probably never... so say what you want to me lah. At least you can actually construct meaningful sentences... unlike some undereducated incoherent anonymous posters, who make no sense at all. I think at least one is trying to insult me... but I can't be sure...

anonymous,
are you the infamous girl who posted about the brutal truth?

The moral of the story here is that if you can't afford the real deal, then you go for the cheaper imitation at your own peril. :)

Redbean will share more positively about life if he is on the other side of the field, looks like it goes around in a circle doesnt it.

Why do you think they are "innocent"?
Very sneaky redbean, sneaking in a presupposition like that.
Typical journo :)

now that is relative, can understand or not.
No, I'm afraid you are still wrong, but that is your natural right to be so ;)
Red bean bro, you got more than enough sense, thinking ability, balls, to shut that sterile son of a shitbreath right? It's your blog bro!
Give the man a beer!
give that man a pussy cat.
matilah, the guys here appreciate your vulgarity differently. it is relative. it is your right to be vulgar as a young man.
when are you going to be senile and forget all your vulgar vocabulary?
When the fuck are you going to stop suggesting to me "how to live my life", so that you can feel a bit more "comfortable" in your existence?
