Americans playing catch up with China

Biden is pushing for closer ties with 49 African leaders by having a meeting with them. Too little too late. Even promises of aid by the USA must be taken with buckets of salt. Promises can always be broken and agreements discarded, but real infrastructure developments on the ground, in many African countries by China, can already be seen in abundance. A bird in hand is worth two in the bush.

When the Anglo Saxons colonised those African countries, all they thought of was stealing their resources by force and keeping them poor with debt traps for easy control. Since 1870 or thereabouts, the Brits especially, were already exploiting Africa but doing little to lift them out of poverty. To add insult to injury, the descendants of the Brits, the USA, even engaged in the slave trade, kidnapping young male Blacks to work as slaves in USA.

China was already helping African countries fight colonialism, when it was still relatively poor, and long before it became the second largest economy in the world. When China started the BRI foray into Africa to help develop the continent, with infrastructures, it elicited positive response from the Africans and this put the Western countries in a bind. Added to that, African countries are now partnering China to extract important mineral resources together and this is not good news for the West.

What is Biden's motive by calling the meeting is not difficult to guess. It is all about countering China's influence in Africa. African leaders are not foolish enough not to see through the ploy. They want progress, not inviting more conflicts onto the continent. Who would they choose, when the meeting is over? Just ask Mohammed bin Salman and the other Arab countries.

  1. The USA is playing catch up in many areas, not just diplomacy, which they do not know how it works. All through the decades they only know one way and that is 'Might is Right' and used that as their calling card. They controlled all the world bodies, like the UN, WHO, SWIFT, and misused the US$ hegemony to control the global economic system.

They tried to hold on to their control over the oil trade, using that to provide the backing for the US$ as the global reserve currency. Now, they have lost that control and may soon lose the oil backing for the Petrodollar.

The writing is already on the wall for a long time over the demise of the US$, that many have predicted, but the Ukraine war and the sanctions on Russia and the seizing of Russia assets is the straw that really broke the camel's back. Who is next is on every country's mind.

  2. Biden visiting Africa shows the desperation of US to counter the influence China is spreading on the continent of Africa. The Africans are smarter these days. No more gullible and desperate for the " aid and charity " from US and the West. China comes to Africa with goodwill and genuine desire to uplift the living standard of the Africans. Biden is too late and his visits to the continent will be a waste of time. Of course the Heads of States will meet him but he will go away empty handed.

  3. Biden did not go to Africa to see African leaders. He still acts like the Emperor and ordered the African leaders to the White House to pay respect to him.

For the 3 days visit he probably meets them once or twice and let the his staff to meet the heads of states, treating them like heads of their colonies.

  4. Biden ordered the African leaders to the White House to tell them to go against Russia. The so called aids, is conditional on the African leaders taking sides or else no aids.

The Americans have gone around the world to coerce countries to take sides. One idiotic country once complained that it was China that was coercing countries to take sides. The truth is that the country that is coercing countries to choose sides is none other than the Americans.

China does not do that, no need to do that. China does not meddle in other countries domestic affairs or their policies.

  5. As usual, Biden promised US$15b as aids to 40+ African countries but pouring hundreds of billions into Ukraine. This is how important the Americans are treating the Africans. Just like insulting Asean with US$150m when a large chunk was about sending US Coast Guard to patrol and control Asean waters.

What would the promised US$15b be about? Sending warships to Africa or selling more weapons?

  6. Hi All

The UAssA can throw their bananas currency around because they only needed to print them without any sweat of work.

The Daft World is now waking up and will not recognize their no value currency soon.

    Cheers

  7. The US$55 billion aid to Africa is spread over three years, which is about slightly more than US$18 billion per year shared among the 49 African countries. For all we know, the aid may not even materialise, just an empty pledge.

Compare that to the more than US$68 billion aid to Ukraine, just one White country, over the last 10 months. How much of that is laundered back is anybody's guess. Too bad, SBF of FTX will not be able to testify in front of Congress after being arrested.

Only talk them down of their policies to follow as though they are vassals of them.
